I adore the Sonata Op. 120 No. 1 for clarinet & piano...wonderfully performed by Karl Leister and Ferenc Bognár. Bravo! Bravo! I would love to hear them perform the Sonata No. 2 in E-flat Major.
@johnpirie4804 why do you think that I hate clarinet? No,I love clarinet ( Mozart,Krommer,Stamitz clarinet concertos are amazing). It's just my opinion, that viola version Brahms's sonata more expressive as for me,gratefully deep sound and timbre of viola
@@Bach1685I never inferred you hated the clarinet. I'm a clarinettist myself and have played this work so I'm entitled to disagree with you. It was written for Richard Mühlfeld the principal clarinet of the Meiningen Court Orchestra of whom Brahms was inspired by. He only arranged it for viola so it could be more widely played.
The second movement of this sonata is probably one of the most beautiful pieces Brahms ever wrote
Unique
I totally agree 👍🏻
Clarinet is the instrument that one can easily distinguish from the symphonic noise just before the concert.
i'm pretty sure you're thinking about the oboe
@@doc_funkbeat9277 I was not thinking about tuning, but the scales of clarinet from the chaotic preparation.
@@texwiller4029 ohh got it (´∀`)
Beautiful clarinet.
The third movement is beautiful!
We meet again, Pranav.

this is majestic af
I have this piece on CD played by a viola instead of clarinet: the transcription was made by Brahms himself. It is beautiful with either instrument.
nope
It only has sensibility with clarinet.
It was originally written for clarinet but also works very well on viola
9:47 holy shit
???
Welp I'm performing this. Hope I don't screw this up
Hope it went well, this is a beautiful piece.
It’s likely…hard piece to play
*update* did pretty well
Me too 😅
i’m so terrified i have to play this for my jury
Thanks for posting this beautiful Sonata
your tone is so beautiful x
I love Brahms my goooood
Played this at a school concert many many years ago.
According to this I'm practicing all but the last movement too fast. That's a bit of relief for my fingers.
No, it's supposed to be played fast.
@@wiseferret4745 I think this tempo works just fine.
@@PaulVinonaama I honestly prefer it.

In last movement's bars 119-122 the pianist thinks quarter-notes = half-notes.
They're crotchets, seems to be fine to me at 21:10ish
They sound accurate

Very good maybe too controled
Viola is the best instrument for this sonata
Clarinet better 💎
Not if you're a clarinettist.

Exactly! This piece was originally intended for clarinet and piano, not viola and piano!@@johnpirie4804
