I'm 90 now and at 30 our baby was born with Downs. We were told he would die before he was 5, but lived to 55! There wasn't much help or information available in 1964. These challenges bring out the best in some and the worst in others. God bless you, Thomas and all who understand and support one another on this journey.
I am a Hoosier girl living in a Kentucky world. I grew up in Da Region but married at 20 and moved to the Indianapolis area and lived there 41 years until I met my Kentuckian husband. There is a family at my former parish that has a developmentally disabled daughter who also has a seizure disorder. They also have a son who is a couple of years younger. They decided when their children were young that they didn't want to make their son responsible for his sister's care so they started preparing her to be independent. She can read, write and communicate and has always worked. She lives in an independent living apartment with social service support to help her do her shopping etc. There is a team of friends at church who take turns bringing her to Mass and events. Her parents are 80ish now and they are able to travel, knowing that she is taken care of. I really admire what they have done to give their 50 something adult daughter her own independence. You have done the right thing Mock.
Mock I just recently retired from health care. The first few years of my career I cared for quadriplegics and paraplegics. People have absolutely no idea the care it takes. So thank you for the care that you have made sure that your son is receiving ❤
Hi Miriam, as you know I have mild cp, hearing impaired and can’t see in my right eye. I was born 3 months premature. Doctors had made wrong assumptions about my life. They expected me to live to mid 40’s. Now I just turn 56 this past Sunday. Also doctors expected me to be in wheelchair forever from mid 20’s but I am still walking. I live in my own apartment without a roommate and I prefer that way for I love having my space. You are an awesome Mom, and God is displaying His grace and His power in Thomas. Thank you for sharing your story with us.
I worked in administration for a developmental center and later for a group home. You are doing absolutely the right thing for your son . When you have good staff caring for him, you're doing the best you possibly can. I saw so many families fall apart because they couldn't face the fact they could not care for their child. You've done the best for your son and your family. God Bless you and never doubt your decisions.
I was a cna for 32 years.i loved taking care of our special needs "kids" they have a right to enteract and let God use them for his purpose. They give so much joy to the people around them and you can see the pure Ness of christ in them.i think you letting him have a life out side of you is so beautiful truly. You are a great mom.God bless.
Anyone who tries to guilt you regarding where he will be when you move, doesn’t understand a Mothers love. For a mom to do what is best for her child , is the definition of doing what is right
Single parent of a special needs daughter here. She’s 31 now. She was placed into a group home with two other roommates 6 years ago. It was the best decision for both of us. She is living her best life! I did this mainly because it is just me and like you said…I won’t be here forever and I wanted to make sure she was fully ensconced in her independent life for when the time comes. The fact that you were judged for your decisions about your son’s life from another special needs parent is astounding. The audacity! You don’t need anyone to say you’ve done the right thing….but you have. Those of us who have special needs children know that we each have our own individual path and should never judge another special needs parent. All the support and love to you and your family.
Mock, my wife and I are 65. We met 13 years ago. The night we met I told her that I had an Autistic son and that my oldest was Transgendered. She told me that she had Lupus and 3 of her 4 kids were addicts. We are both big proponents of laying your cards on the table early. God bless you for all that you have done for Thomas.
I used to take care of an 18 yr old with CP. He could talk & move his upper body. He sat in a wheel chair all day so wanted to stretch out when he came to me after school. He was very heavy & if I didn't have help I could not lay him down. Kudos to Miriam & Ron for keeping him home for so long.
Mock, I saw your exchange with the woman on Instagram. I thought, if nothing else, she was insensitive. The exchange conjured up questions in my mind about Thomas’s story. I wondered what happened to him, how he is doing now, etc. I would never ask though. This deep dive was excellent. Thank you for inviting us into Thomas’s world. You are a strong woman, girl. Thomas is blessed to have you and you him. The love you have for this boy shined through and does every time you talk about him.
I can relate to this more than most. My wife has CP. If you think being born with CP was hard in 1997, imagine if you were born with CP in 1966! Doctors knew nearly nothing about CP or its lifetime effects. My wife was fortunate - she was fully functional except that she couldn't walk without crutches. She had no issues with her upper body at all. She went to college, got a child psychology degree, and joined the working world. At age 30, she had to abandon the crutches for a manual wheelchair and stopped working. She did pull out the crutches one more time so she could walk down the aisle when we got married in 2000. In 2017, she fell transferring from the bed to her chair and got a new spinal cord injury. She was forced into a motorized wheelchair. Since then, her body continues to deteriorate, especially the right hip. This past summer she entered a skilled nursing facility. There is very little chance she will ever come home (and we NEVER talk about that). She's not getting anywhere near as good of care as Thomas is getting. Y'all are in a great situation and I'll pray for Thomas to keep getting great care.
I work with a lady in her early 40's who has a 19 yr old with CP. She calls him her forever baby ❤ She also has 2 teenage girls and 2 small boys under 5! We are massage therapists and I don't know how she does it. Her momma lives with her, but also works. I Love her determination and heart so much!😢❤ Love to all with special needs family ❤
I'm one who went off on that lady! Mock, you're awesome and so so strong. I have 4 boys, 3 of whom are on the autism spectrum. While I can't begin to compare our struggles to yours, I know what it's like to be judged on decisions you make for your kids. It's nobody's business but your own! Praying for continued strength to you and Ron to make those tough choices for your family, and praying health over T-bone!!
When I delivered our first baby, I absolutely was heart sick that the doctor said there was a twin to our daughter. It didn’t grow much but it was so sad mixed with joy of a newborn.
@@arbonneladyTN my mom lost my twin at 3 months. They didn’t know I was even there until they did an ultrasound and I was tucked out of sight. It was a sad but happy day.
My husband was a twin. His brother died at 3 months old of crib death. There are twins all through my husband's family. His father had 11 siblings and there were two sets of twins among his siblings. My husband has twins, his sister has twins, and his eldest daughter lost a set of twins at birth.
I was so touched and moved by this podcast. You are truly amazing and Ron sounds so wonderful. Thank you for this incredible episode that almost brought me to tears as well as frequent laughter. Your spirit, courage and sense of humor through it all is absolutely inspirational. God Bless you and your family.
Thanks for posting this video. Mock, I'm sure you don't remember but back in 2012 you had posted about your son and I wrote you to send you some encouragement. In my email, I told you about my autistic son, trying to somewhat relate and in your response you told me about the poem "Welcome to Holland". It had a profound affect on me and my wife. It really helped change our perspective and I very much appreciate that you took the time to respond to me. Thanks for all that you two do!
I remember when my mother's health deteriorated to the point where I could not physically continue to take care of her or could not afford to hire around the clock nursing care. I had no choice but to put her in a nursing home. I did so much research and found one where she was treated like a queen. It was such a relief for me to know she had 24/7 care and the nursing home was across the parking lot from a hospital. Her care depleted her savings until she was eligible for Medicaid and people I knew were so upset by that but I thought it was well worth it knowing she had such amazing care. I didn't have to make the decision to move out of state without her but I wouldn't have moved her either. When you find an awesome place where they get the best of care, you don't want to chance changing it. I totally get why you want Thomas to remain in the care of people you trust. Great deep dive! Hugs to you Mock!
Your story has me in tears. I have a daughter with rett syndrome, and I lost a baby girl before her. I remember the total fear over having another baby. Thank you for being an inspiration for women like me. Your strength and confidence as a mom gives me strength ❤
Inspiring story Mock. No one who has not dealt with this should pass judgement ever! Thomas is lucky to have you has his mother! I remember freaking out when my daughter had to get her 2 front teeth pulled as a toddler. I was freaked until I hopped into reality and put it into perspective. Much love to Thomas!
Bless you for sharing all this, Mock and Daisy. I love you both and wish only the best future for Thomas and for your families. Please know that you have enriched many lives out here via your social media presences. 🙏❤
I worked at our high school with orthopedic handicap teenage kids its very strenuous physically, I adored them. My sons would come in my classroom play cards and games . Special moments. God bless 🙏 you Mock.
Mock that is such an amazing story! I know you had a disabled son but did not know the story. I think you are very brave and an excellent mother! That had to have been a really hard time and Ron sounds like an angel sent to you and Thomas! You deserve happiness too and I’m so glad things turned out good for you! Love you ladies both and see yall Monday morning!
Mock as a person that can relate. I was born with 95% effected with Spastic CP. You're a BEAUTIFUL person I'd give you a hug if I could it touched my heart. Bless you and Ron being the great humans. New to Channel but, great work you both do. Bless You Both
love and prayers to you, Thomas and Ron and Jackson🙏💝you, know Thomas has a social life with lots of different, loving people around all the time - Thank you for sharing this extraordinary story, Mock. That poem was the best. Ron restores my faith in loving men.
One of my precious daughters had issues with placenta privia and had one of my grandsond at 28 weeks and stayed in NICU for 3 mo and came home a beautiful boy seemingly just fine, however, my daughter woke up and found him cold at 7 mo old..a couple of years later she got pregnant again and the same thing happened and she had another little boy at 28 weeks for the same reason..little man was 2.0 lbs and spent 4 mo in NICU and is now an 11yr old amazing healthy boy..my heart got so full hearing your story as its wonderful to see a mother's love as you have for your son. No judgment here ..only admiration for how much you love your children ❤️
Thank you for sharing such intimate details of your life knowing that your followers love you and support you and will NEVER judge you. I feel so blessed to have found you ladies. I don't even know how I found you, but so glad I did. You've built such a loving and supportive community! xoxo!
Mock I can so relate to your story. Married my high school sweetheart the day after my high school graduation and two months after I turned 18. Same story with no child support, family contact or anything. My two boys are better men than he will ever be. So appreciate you!
Thank you for sharing your story. I love seeing photos of Thomas and Jackson on Instagram. You and Ron are champions and I wish more men were as courageous as your husband. Something we all can do for Miriam, Thomas, Ron and Jackson - pray for good health and continued strength and happiness!! We'll do that for you. God bless.
What an amazing story of love and hope. Thomas is one lucky young man to have you for his mom and it easy to see how he has enriched your life. Thanks for sharing.
I give Mock props! It sounds like Thomas is very loved and certainly well cared for and that is what really matters. Thank you for sharing, you're an inspiration to other moms!
Mock, Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful testimony of how great a Mothers Love is for her child. I appreciated you trusting us and helping others who may never know the added blessings that having a child with special needs can be not only for your family, but for the world. It warmed my heart when you highlighted all the Angels that have been there to support and share in the incredible care and spirit that Thomas radiates which surely he received from his incredible Mom. Once again, your loving spirit helped so many today widen their hearts and minds to what a dedicated and loving Mother does for her children. Sending you and Daisy big hugs, love, respect and admiration for sharing your personal trials and blessings with us all.
I've been wanting to listen to this for so long. God bless you, Mock and Ron. My sister was born with Trisomy 18 and such an angel and gift to our family. My mom was a rockstar and taught us so much about love, compassion, and strength. I was blessed by both of them. My sister, Alyssa lived to be 18 and was never able to walk or talk. Thank you for sharing your story. There are so many complex layers that no one can judge. You are amazing. Thomas is so lucky to have you as his mom. I wish I could meet him, he sounds amazing. ❤
Hello Miriam, I try as often as possible to sneak and catch COTR live. You & Amy make my day, no matter when I can listen or watch. This deep dive had me in tears. You are the epitome of a very blessed soul. Your light shines and we can all see it. God bless you Miriam.
Thanks for sharing, Mock. God has truly blessed you over your life. He helped you have a great attitude, marry Ron, brought you great caregivers, gave you Jackson, your show, your new place. You have much to be grateful for. Love watching you guys.
Dear Miriam, I was finally able to watch your deep dive about your son today! I really appreciate you sharing your story. What an amazing woman your are to have survived all that. Thanks again to the both of you!! Love your show❤ Hope to come to a meet & greet someday!!
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I ran homes for special needs for many years. You were 100% correct in placing your son in a care home, both for his well-being and your family's. Don't ever feel guilty. Those who judge just don't know better. I wish you all many blessings.
What an absolute powerful deep dive this was! Thanks for sharing, I have a totally new respect for you on top of the respect I already had! Thomas couldn’t have a better advocate than you! You are amazing and may God bless you and your family!
You are one hell of momma, Mock. ❤ I got emotional listening to this and your ability to share this with the grace you did is amazing. Your positive out look is inspirational.
What a story! God bless you and your amazing family 🙏🏼 So sad that anyone would judge your decisions. Many prayers and hugs to you for being a great mom and to Ron for being a great man ❤ ❤️
You are amazing with your story! I was blessed after my now 28 year old daughter tried to come at 27 weeks. Blessed because I was hospitalized for the next 7 weeks until it was safe to deliver.
I always thought that Miriam was a beautiful woman, but after listening to her speak about her son and realizing what she endured I can honestly say that she is more beautiful inside than outside. I adore and love you miriam and I would love to let your husband Ron know just how lucky of a guy he is but I am sure that he already knows! I wish that someday I could find someone just like you! I love your wit and your spunk! You broke the mold girl! Love you bunches!!!
Thank you ladies for sharing Thomas's story ♥️ You are both such great moms! Thomas and all of your children are so lucky!! You know what's best for your children! Love the deep dives and Live! ♥️ So nice to watch a show where we all have similar beliefs, and the Live show community is so Awesome!
So amazing that Thomas has such a lovely place to live now. My sister and her hubby have had my 30 year old nephew with CP on a waitlist for 12 years now here in CO with probably another 10 years to go and he may still only qualify for a nursing home. Right now they can still care for him thankfully (though they’re late 50’s) and he is able to go to a nice day program he loves, but, what will happen when they can’t lift him anymore? That’s for sharing your story! Thomas is blessed to have you for his mama as I know you’ve been totally blessed by him!!!
I did not have questions but listening to your story from the very beginning of your young life, all im going to say is you have been and still are an AMAZING MOM. You have made all the right decisions for your son best interests. You have my support in that.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. Thomas has an AMAZING family! My brother has CP, but not as severe as Thomas. He is able to live on his own, but I only live about 5 minutes away from him. He is my only sibling and we are very close. I feel the same as Daisy…that woman who tried to shame you is a biotch! God bless your family and especially Thomas!
Thank you so much for sharing these personal details about you, your family and your son, Thomas. I admire your truth and honesty about both your struggles and deep love for your son, Thomas. So many people who have gone through all that you have gone through would be bitter, but your ability to recognize the good is inspiring. Love and prayers. ❤️🙏🏻
Mock, thank you for sharing this story. All too often people can be so judgmental without living the life. Thank you for sharing. Being a parent of a special needs child, from the moment she was born Downs, at 10 mo meningitis, @2 yr they discovered a hole in the lower ventricular. The daily fight for educational to main stream or not. She had Cataract surgery, then strokes at 27 resulting in vision impairment. We had to relearn everything. She is 39 now and in the last 2 years she has had a hip replacement…I thank God every morning that I have her with us. It still does not cover the legal system (Guardianship). Did I mention I was serving in the Army at this time traveling around the world and being deployed most of which resulted in my wife having to manage the brunt of all this, god love her. So yes I truly understand the struggle and the fight! Stay strong ❤️
Thank you for sharing your story with us. You are inspiring and wonderful! As someone said above, Daisy’s fierce love and desire to protect you is obvious! Much love to you both!❤❤
Wow!!!! You rock!! I have gained somehow more respect for both you ladies than I already had!! May God bless you , Thomas & the rest of your family. ❤😊🙏
Thank you Mock for sharing your struggles and joys of having a child with special needs. As someone with a sister with special needs this was a refreshing point of view.
You are making the wisest decision for Thomas who can’t make it himself. My younger sister came to live with me in 2006 from Rhode Island to Texas . She has many issues that make her handicapped. She had a good program in RI that helped with many things. I assumed in Texas she would qualify as well. Not quite. She was put on a “waiting list “ in 2007 . She was finally contacted in August 2023. 16 years she has waited. We are still applying for this and that which is a massive undertaking! You did the right thing for Thomas. Hugs from Texas! ❤❤❤
I've often heard that the number 1 quality men look for (consciously or subconsciously) in a woman is ***happiness.*** You've got a lot of happiness vibrating out of you, Mock.
My cousin had a chat age 17 (long long story) that adopted parents gave him back to my cousin bc he had only a brain stem. He lived until age 17, defied so many odds. My cousin ended up a nurse bc of him (she could have played professional basketball like her big brother was nba). He was a blessing, knew who I was because we would make noises at each other he could make. It’s difficult to care for a child with this level of disability and if you found a home that helps and you trust how blessed you are. Prayers for your move and that Thomas continues to be blessed.
Thank you for sharing such an intimate and personal part of your life. You are an amazing, strong , loving woman. Goblessed Thomas with you as his mom so many people could not handle everything life has thrown at you❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
My stepdad had cerebral palsy. He dealt with a lot of adversity and was always someone I could rely on. He even wrote a book “Myth of Catastrophy” by Vance Jasen Garrison. He passed away fr heart problems 2020. I miss him a lot.
I really enjoyed hearing about Thomas, I cried through most of it. Mock, you are the most amazing Mom ever. My one question would be, how does Jackson enter act with Thomas. I love you so much! ❤️🙏🥰

Mock as a person that can relate. I was born with 95% effected with Spastic CP. You're a BEAUTIFUL person I'd give you a hug if I could it touched my heart. Bless you and Ron being the great humans. New to Channel but, great work you both do. Bless You Both
Wow, thank you! And welcome! ❤️
Same Mock! About the husband-I ended up with the most wonderful man, husband and father- the one my daughter was supposed to have!
love and prayers to you, Thomas and Ron and Jackson🙏💝you, know Thomas has a social life with lots of different, loving people around all the time - Thank you for sharing this extraordinary story, Mock. That poem was the best. Ron restores my faith in loving men.
Bless you Mock. Unbelievable share. Another reason to love you both
One of my precious daughters had issues with placenta privia and had one of my grandsond at 28 weeks and stayed in NICU for 3 mo and came home a beautiful boy seemingly just fine, however, my daughter woke up and found him cold at 7 mo old..a couple of years later she got pregnant again and the same thing happened and she had another little boy at 28 weeks for the same reason..little man was 2.0 lbs and spent 4 mo in NICU and is now an 11yr old amazing healthy boy..my heart got so full hearing your story as its wonderful to see a mother's love as you have for your son. No judgment here ..only admiration for how much you love your children ❤️
Thank you for sharing about your family! You are a great mom! I was crying listening to how strong you are and how much you love Thomas.
Thank you for sharing such intimate details of your life knowing that your followers love you and support you and will NEVER judge you. I feel so blessed to have found you ladies. I don't even know how I found you, but so glad I did. You've built such a loving and supportive community! xoxo!
Such an amazing story! Thank you Mock for sharing Thomas’s story with us. You have a beautiful family. ❤️❤️
Thank you for sharing Mock. God bless you and your family.
You two are the best.
Thank you for being a voice for those of us who silently live the same (or very similar) life.
Hello Miriam,
I try as often as possible to sneak and catch COTR live.
Thank you for sharing this , Mock. I have such respect and admiration for you. Daisy, you’re an incredible friend.
My heart goes out to you Mock..may the Lord give your family peace and love 💞💞
So much respect for you Mock!!❤❤❤❤❤
You know what is best for your son. I stand with you whatever your decisions are.
Dear Miriam, I was finally able to watch your deep dive about your son today! I really appreciate you sharing your story. What an amazing woman your are to have survived all that. Thanks again to the both of you!! Love your show❤
Hope to come to a meet & greet someday!!
God bless you and your amazing family 🙏🏼
So sad that anyone would judge your decisions.
Many prayers and hugs to you for being a great mom and to Ron for being a great man ❤ ❤️
MOCK Thank you for sharing your story. It will be a glorious day in Heaven Thomas goes home and shackles of infirmity are lifted from him.
You are amazing with your story! I was blessed after my now 28 year old daughter tried to come at 27 weeks. Blessed because I was hospitalized for the next 7 weeks until it was safe to deliver.
What a wonderful woman you are may God bless you and your family😇
I always thought that Miriam was a beautiful woman, but after listening to her speak about her son and realizing what she endured I can honestly say that she is more beautiful inside than outside. I adore and love you miriam and I would love to let your husband Ron know just how lucky of a guy he is but I am sure that he already knows! I wish that someday I could find someone just like you! I love your wit and your spunk! You broke the mold girl! Love you bunches!!!
Thank you for sharing this Mock. You are an amazing and wonderful woman. God bless you and your family! ❤️
Thomas is blessed to have you for his mama as I know you’ve been totally blessed by him!!!
thank you for sharing. Been there. The fear of the subsequent pregnancy is very real.
I did not have questions but listening to your story from the very beginning of your young life, all im going to say is you have been and still are an AMAZING MOM. You have made all the right decisions for your son best interests. You have my support in that.
Mock- ty for sharing. You’re a wonderful mom and person!
What a beautiful testimony to the sanctity of life! Wow! God has given you so many blessings! Thank you so much for sharing this!
Thank you for sharing your story. It was truly heartwarming to hear about Thomas. May God continue to bless him and your family.
Aw Mock you got me tearing up over here. I love your story. You are a tough cookie. Blessings and hope you enjoy SC.
May
God bless you , Thomas & the rest of your family. ❤😊🙏
Mock, you're stronger than anyone knows!
Thank you Mock for sharing your struggles and joys of having a child with special needs. As someone with a sister with special needs this was a refreshing point of view.
Thx ladies! I think this has been my most favorite deep dive!! I enjoyed hearing Mock's story.❤
Love you ladies!!! So thankful you could share this story with us. So powerful, and your strength through that all is so admirable.
I had the "Welcome to Holland" poem framed and on my wall for years. The journey has been long, and very different from what I imagined for my son.
I just read the poem!! 🙏❤️ I understand!! God Bless You and Thomas! ❤️🙏
Good morning. Mock thank you for sharing your personal story. ❤❤
God bless you and Daisy
God bless you Mock and your son for being so strong! 🙏❤️🙏❤️
Beautifully done! Thank you for sharing. My BFF had a son with CP and he is amazing-love him so much!
What a wonderful podcast love to both of you and your families 💕
YOU ARE AMAIZING
My husband’s nephew had duchenne md. He lived to 39. They could not go on trips together and I understand and appreciate the struggle and sacrifices.
I really enjoyed hearing about Thomas, I cried through most of it. Mock, you are the most amazing Mom ever. My one question would be, how does Jackson enter act with Thomas. I love you so much! ❤️🙏🥰
Wow 😳 God had his hand in this story, what a beautiful testimony Mock ❤.
