Excel and Powerpoint unlocked S support guys.
it seems to me that this video comes from a session of FE course in college.

the ship community is dying, reblog if you are true shipper!
The opera house in fates has boats in it lol
Raft map archetype
Gondola map
@@shanemiller1182 revelation elevators? Or do you mean something else
@@olorin6494 no? I’m saying the boats in the opera house level are gondolas
now this is one of the shipposts of all time
I really like the port maps because they usually have villages and shops and the boarding/landing dynamic makes me happy. Kinda like a seize, but it's rout the boat area.
Classic Excelblem bait-and-switch
worth it
Man, I don't get why this is such a controversial topic in the community. It's just boats, man.
Because you can't just warp skip. They love that
@@mor3gan285 Why doesn't Chrom just use a warp staff to get across the ocean? Is he stupid?
Not enough ships. We need more of them
7.8/10 not enough boats
If you’re giving boats this much attention and effort I certainly wouldn’t say no to a in-depth analysis of Fire Emblem’s castle design. Lots of questions to ask if their interiors make any strategic sense, how they stack up in gameplay from simple halls to labyrinths.
and how they are not fortifications made to withstand assault, but rather places to be captured by enemy forces
"Excelblem uploaded Fire Emblem Shipping Dynamics" is a title I did not expect to see lol
You forgot the ships levels which appear in the post game of FE Echoes. Unlike the chapter 2 ones, these maps contain flying enemies and even some dragons (which are very powerful enemies). You're also given access to both armies at this point so you can your 10 best units with your best equipment.
Much tougher than the early chapter boat maps which were bitesized and simple. I will give credit to the first Cantor (Summoner) map which showcases how deadly these guys are.
Continuing Fate's boat map that isn't really a boat map trend, Conquest chapter 10 is a map where you're defending a port, and get swarmed by enemies coming at you from a pair of boats from many sides.
I think it deserves a mention. Aside from not starting on a boat, it ticks the rest of the checkboxes as well as any true boat map.
Looking at 8:06, you see:
All your troops starting in one place and needing to face attacks from the outside.
Other boats
Fliers (both enemy fliers, and 2 that join this chapter.)
You are forced to stay in the same place.
You cannot go to the enemies, they come to you (well, as much as your typical boat map.)
Creates a more opressive type of map than usual.
Awakening having human-powered oars below-deck introduces the non-zero percent possibility that there WERE people still below deck when the ships crashed. Sure, it's not likely, but it's funny to imagine that the Shepherds just forgot they were there
Although it DOES make sense that the Revelations ships are lower-quality and less advanced than the Conquest and Birthright variety, since the player isn't fighting for any specific kingdom and likely has very little actual funding to work off of
Am I the only one that expected what was in the video? Like, it was in the thumbnail??
Content starved FE fans are more than willing to click on an excelblem video well before the thumbnail loads in
@@TrueLawbringer to be fair his videos kick ass
I kind of expect Excelblem doesn't care about relationships between pixels, what with the way he murders them by the dozen routinely.
This feels like explaining a joke:
- No, you are not the only one.
- Yes, most saw the thumbnail.
- No, some people just read the notification
- The joke is on them, because the title alone is intentionally misleading
We're all having fun here, pretending to have been mislead to post funny comments is part of internet culture.
lol I didn't even consider the other interpretation, your comment had me scratching my head for a bit
FE "stock" map designs are actually a really interesting study point. With most FE games taking place in theoretically new continents and worlds, observing those similiarities - boats, volcanoes, etc. - can definitely lend an eye to what the designers are going for and why they design both worlds and maps the way they do.
I have especially strong feelings toward the boat map in FE7. I had a lot lf trouble with it, and the whole arc of chapters dealing with it (the gaiden survive map, the boat map, and then the landing map after) felt especially spooky on the way to the cultist island paradise.
I'd love to see other stock map analyses done. Maybe volcanoes next? Or perhaps prison break maps!
10:54 "Tiles are kind of hard to abstract to real-world distances to begin with."
I actually did some analysis on this matter recently. I'd link the actual post, but RUclips keeps deleting my comments if I try putting in the hyperlink. The tl;dr of it was that spaces are typically either 10 meters × 10 meters or 5 m × 5 m in outdoor maps, or possibly 1 m × 1 m in indoor maps depending on the map's scale.
Based on tilesets and patterns, I think it's safe to say most boat maps use the 5 m × 5 m outdoor scale, with some maybe using the 1 m × 1 m indoor scale.
I love shipping. My favorite ship is shipping after market tractor parts to Sweden.
I can't believe it took me this long to realize you borrowed the same format as Perun. 10/10. Would ship again.
Nice analysis on why Myrrh X Ewan A support is best
What do you mean the best shipping dynamic isn't incest
In Fire Emblem Three Hopes, Claude uses a fleet of ships borrowed from Almyra to invade The Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. This shocks Faerghus because the Leicester doesn't have a real navy. It also shows that Almyra is likely more technologically advanced that Fodlan
I think it's a Leicester thing since Adrestia, a Fodlan country, invaded brigid and dagda, archipelagos that would be impossible to invade without a large fleet. Also Almyra gets dunked on by Leicester on the regular, so they likely have a more diverse military rather than a more advanced one.
Don't buy a boat.
Powerpemplem strikes again
Excelblem video in Perun style is not what I expected in my feed this morning, but I welcome it regardless
"Well, now that we've escaped from the city, at least it's smoothing sailing from here on."
"The chapter is called 'Ghost Ship'"
"......F-"
0/10, how dare you not include the horrid war of left ship shippers and the right ship shippers 😔
The phantom ship in FE8 was so hard it made me drop the game
It also kinda makes sense that if any ship in FE would be technologically advanced, it would be the Fates one. As far as I can tell, it is the only game that isn't utterly devoid of technological advancements beyond what you'd find in medieval Europe. It has the Mechanist class and the Automaton enemies. It's also the only time where the Ballistician class shoots cannons rather than ballistae.
Ah shipping not shipping very good
Not ironclad after all
7:25 If you're counting Sword and Shield of Seiros as a pseudo-boat map, then Crimson Flower's Capturing Derdriu (C14) counts as well. Same boats lined up, just it's actually the Almyran navy this time.
I knew this wasn't about relationships between characters, but I actually expected it to be about moving items from convoy to units and vice-versa. What a twist!
ngl i think a train map would be fun in FE. like inside the train. you have a limited number of turns until you reach your destination to find and defeat the boss.
For a second thought this was Perun. A master shitpost, I eagerly await more.
good shitpost
It’s a better shippost
Goop pun Ship.
Mentioning how most FE games take place on one contiguous continent makes me want an FE game that takes place in an archipelago. Maybe it could be based on the Golden Age of Piracy. Give us Pirate Emblem, you cowards
You can have video on fire emblem tank units, ships, aerial units, infantries…then maybe artilleries bombers and submarines next
…What you mean this is not an Advanced Wars video?
Where's my video on the ethics of Andy and Eagle just having a war for fun at the end of AW1?
@@IcyDragonPolaris war crimes
Kind of surprised by the fact that despite boat maps being such a defining map type in the series and despite me playing all but two of them, only like half the games have an actual boat map
I can't tell if it's a passionate exploration of the topic or a very elaborate shitpost. Probably both :D
Is it me or is this video format a Perun RUclips channel reference?
(I love it)
Perun brainrot? Approved.
In all honesty, I actually enjoyed the boat maps in Shadows of Valentia, if only just for the pirate aesthetic.
Until the cantor boat.
Ah yes, the Cantor boat. As opposed to the Cantor Swamp, Cantor Fort, or the Cantor Desert. Those are fine clearly.
Never said I liked any of the cantor maps. They all suck.
Waiting for the airship map
the crossover I never expected and never realized I wanted
My biggest surprise from this video is the revelation (pun intended) that Fateslandia supposedly has basic steam power figured out. Steam punk FE when?
I'd be interesting if the ships were actually moving, instead of just sitting there with boarding planks always attached.
Also, a ship could be a great home base. Smaller than the monestary, can be upgraded or replaced by a bigger boat through the story or player investment, and there's a good reason why you can return to it between missions since it moves with you.
Suikoden IV.
@@shytendeakatamanoir9740 Haven't played it. Divinity 2 does it kinda too.
Hell yeah we love excelblem clickbait content that’s actually an interesting
This video is peak "I like trains" of Fire Emblem
Adam Something Emblem
It honestly feels weird that FE6 actually has no boat maps.
Desert map next.
i'm not seeing enough environmental hazards for how rough sailing typically gets
actually in general there's not that many environmental hazards in FE compared to, say into the breach where every map has *some* kind of environmental quirk (the basics like fire, smoke, acid, mines, and the more complex ones like storms, air strikes, acid rain, fissures, dams+flooding, missile launch sites, etc)
to be fair everything including the enemies in ITB basically act as environmental hazards, and the other game in my head is rain world, which is... environmental hazard McGee
In my romhack I had originally planned for a gaiden chapter that was going to be a foggy boat map along the lines of Phantom Ship, but after playing Tears of the Kingdom, I did a total 180 and made a sky map featuring airships instead. Sure, the objective is rout, but the vastly unusual terrain layout makes for a unique, freeing experience, especially since by this point the player has multiple units that can freely cross the skies. (an earlygame pirate you can promote to berserker, a dragoon, spellswords, fliers, a sage wearing a levitating cloak, your two refreshers can basically fly when they hit Level 20, etc etc)
Tuned in for ExcelEmblem not PowerPointEmblem 😤
Jokes aside though the videos are still interesting.
Was expecting somthing about support conversations XD But I really enjoyed this one!
You should have mentioned how in Fe6 Geese's supports mention that merchant ships, namely his father's, use slaves to row their cargo over sea. It's super dark when considering Geese also mentions that there were children aboard being forced to row.
It's also probably why Geitz left his father to become a wanderer in fe7.
Most ship maps aren’t even using the boat aspect. It’s purely an aesthetic. The only exceptions are Phantom Ship and Shigure’s paralogue with the ships arriving in succession or weaving between ships respectively.
I was giggling the whole time. Am slightly disappointed there were no jokes of the "x/y" shipping variety.
New idea: pirate emblem, most of the maps are boat maps with maybe 1-3 land maps around the mid game. The lord has a similar story to Briggid where despite being noble by birth spent most of they’re life as a pirate and doesn’t even know about they’re lineage.
Personally I'm waiting for a game where we can go full Masaru Daimon and just fistfight a boat.
I think there aren't enough jokes about Shura's boots on the internet
This was a very well made video. I never thought or took into consideration the impact these maps have.
Here's some ideas I had for boat maps.
*I can't believe it's not Shining Force:* Take a cue from that sea monster map and throw a massive sea monster at the party whose tentacles are individual units, possibly with the boss being its head. These would be powerful, but also couldn't walk on land; weaker units (likely monsters such as Mogalls) would have to try to flush you out. The monster could also spit up the remains of its past victims as Bonewalkers or Revenants to try and flush your army out of the middle, or slowly drag the ship underwater to "make" water tiles (which comes with a built-in turn limit).
*Raid the Dreadnought:* An evil empire will want to take control of trade, and they'll probably use a *really big* ship to do it, possibly even an early ironclad powered by magic. Your party's goal will be essentially the inverse of the usual boat map: the enemy is on the big central boat trying to defend it and you've got to capture it with your own smaller boats. You can decide when to move your ships in and out, likely by talking to an NPC on each ship or interacting with the helm. You'll likely have to contend with ballistae and siege tomes, as well as possibly cannons that fire at units on your ships and mines that explode on your fliers if they just try to rush in. Player ships might get their own ballistae, potentially giving archers a very useful niche on this map by allowing them to fire on the Dreadnought's defenses.
You forgot the other boat map in 3H in the Edelgard route
Its basically the same map, but the boats appear mid battle instead of being there from the beggining
Fire Emblem Mechanic of not shipping most of the series despite making constant reference of never imported of out of print games.
Someone tell the IGN "too much water" reviewer that all the Hoenn games needed was shipping.
In conquest the best strat for the boat map is to become the fliers attacking from the outside, something that wouldn't be possible if it was all indoors.
I clicked on the video before i saw the thumbnail, good bait my dude.
Haha, funni boat
Am i right my fellow sewer dwellers
Is this video just parodying Perun? Lol
i love fire emblem ships............ great video!
I like ship maps (incoming Phantom Ship :D)
When you have a good idea for an april fools video but april is ten months away
Brigid recalls being lost after a ship crash and eventually being rescued by pirates. It’s the only time where ships are implied to exist in FE4.
I think that counts
I'm a right boat x center boat shipper and I endorse this message
Hahaha, I thought it was gonna be a discussion of fan-shipping
I got fucking baited hard by this title.
Getting really tired of all these ship posts, do better
Maybe one day we'll get an Age of Sail FE game.
wait is this video not about wanting corrin to kiss his cousins
I love ALL Excelblem videos!!!! ❤
Should have uploaded this on April fools lol
Port map and Boat map have attained S support
Shining force type maps
I'd love a boat system where you put units into a ship that travels down the map to the boss area but only your strongest. It would be a cool way to show how some games have a massive army but you use the elites to do the main battling like in awakening where chrom does it all the time while the main army holds off walhart and yenfei.
What a high effort shitpost
I learned new irl ship lore from Excelblem, interesting way to start the day.
.... I have been bamboozled
BOAT SHIPPING AT ITS BEST!!!!
Excelblem
he became sail
More Powerpointblem! I honestly like this content because you're someone with a lot of experience in the Fire Emblem franchise and you clearly do your research for your videos.
There's actually some production value and it's not just throwing shit at the wall.
Mixed pixels?
I wasn't really expecting to have a boat class on a fire emblem video. Pretty cool though
While I was expecting the discussion on boat maps, I was not expecting the discussion on the boats themselves. It was very interesting!
The quality on this shitpost is higher than the average excel iron man run kill count
I'm on a boat
"Boat Map"
He got me
I would love to comment about the awakening boat map, but this is right before nos robin went online so i dont remember much. and even before then i had enough units to just handle the sides.
2 boats
honestly when it comes to fire emblem I am pro-ship
You have no idea how much that combination of title and thumbnail made me smile. Cause it was a lot.
