@GLORYIMURDER Yes. Assuming the game doesn't kill me first, as I fully intend on not doing anything but play that game until I complete it once it is released.
@Blomsterbob2K You only seem them once every level, and they change slightly each time, so I didn't feel they were so intrusive as to merit mention. I do wish you could skip them though.
@fuyingbro Black and White, especially the second one, is a far better game overall. But yes, there are some elements of that kind of thing here, if only because of the god game/taking care of island villagers thing going on, but that's mostly where the similarities stop. I feel it's more similar to Populous, but maybe that's because I'm more old school in my gaming habits.
Alright, thanks a lot. I just discovered a free flash game called: "MicroLife" which I quite liked, but it's too short and not very demanding. Ever heard about that?
I wish I could play Black & White. From my research it seems impossible to find without buying an old disc, and very hard to get running on Windows 10.
This game needs some sort of random map mode, where you can sandbox your way through the whole thing with all the powerups available. I played through it once when I got it, and then never touched it again. It was fun, but one I beat it, that was it.
I really enjoyed From Dust. The water, lava and dirt physics are the best i've ever seen and depending on how you manipulate them it actually effects the game, nothing is scripted. It would have been nice to have some city building elements and to be able to interact with your subjects like in the Black and white games but overall it's a great game.
I love Eric Chahi...I've always wondered why he sort of stopped after Heart of Darkness, because both of those games are epic and awesome and tons of other positive adjectives. Anyway, since this is Ubisoft, it will probably be on sale in about three weeks anyway. I'll probably buy it then.
Another good review. You're more patient with this than I was. I loathed it. A bare-bones mockery of the God game genre hiding under the cloak of its "artistic" aesthetic. To me, it had the most unsympathetic group of moronic savages that it's been my misfortune to try and shepherd. I was glad when the tsunami washed them away. Sigh, how I long for a real spiritual successor to Populous and Powermonger... Hmm, I feel better for that, sorry ;)
this is a godus influenced game sorta, from Peter Moulinex, but that one is touchscreen oriented, i bet so is this but the touchscreen laptops didn't catch on. Also, do a video on adventure pinball, pinball+unreal engine+ fun right?
@TehGamersGarage Dots per inch (DPI) is how your mouse movement rate is measured. As for gaming equipment I can throw a few popular companies around like: Razer Steel Series Cooler Master Cyborg All to name a few to start, ( tip: higher price doesn't make the product better necessarily in quality or other) It took me 8 months of digging till I bought Razers Naga Molten Edition).
to be honest i expected much more from this game... much more from Eric Chahi!!! and another disapointment is, that this game can't be bought on a disc, it's only for download... but well, yes, that's because it's only a puzzle game... not much... story mode... there is no real story!! i still prefer his older games, like another world and heart of darkness, which is by the way one of my favourite games... btw, i would be proud to see an older game's review again :) you do good reviews!
I just realised something. How could you not include Black and White on your top 17 of the last decade!!!? Suppose you wernt a big of a fan as me :) Would be interesting to know what your views on the game and it's sequel are though? If you've played them both of course?
This modern game fascism where you need a continues Internet connection or need to install some BULLSHIT resource hogging, spyware riddled and intrusive launcher killed gaming for me. Haven't played any modern games since 2005. (and yet, I love this channel..)
LGR, dunno if you had but you should try Populous the beginning (populous 3), so far, it's the best populous game i've played, with B&W 2 of course ^_^
I love watching you play this game, ha ha. First time player game footage. I kept yelling at the screen "no! you're doing it wrong! there are more efficient ways to do that! quicker ways!" Ha ha. Probably doesn't help that I've played the game all the way through 3 times and got all the achievements in it. Yes, that includes losing no more than I think 3 settlements for an entire playthrough (I didn't lose any). Many of the concepts you learn in the game by tinkering and watching what the landscape actually does. Like, it's easier to redirect lava at it's source than try to dam it up somewhere else further down the line. Or, it's easier to build "half bridges" over flowing rivers (like build it halfway, when the worker gets stuck, seal the new part and let the water fill in behind them while they move forward). It was a very fun game and I was sad there weren't a lot more levels. The game could've used a solid 30+ levels to play around in, that would've been a lot of fun (for story mode, not challenges).
Was interested in this game until the Ubi thing, I have a really wonky internet connection so no dice. Also a friend stopped playing due to the weird mouse and lack of graphics options which wasn't reasuring.
No precise movement... reminds me of Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, which the lack of precise movement is designed on purpose, don’t know if it is the case here.
You showed populous at the start but when I played this back when it was first released on the xbox 360 during the 'summer of arcade' set they did, and was disappointed as the lack of control you really have in From Dust, it just didn't scratch that god game itch for me.
I was totally disappointed in this game. I just felt like I wasn't some powerful god manipulating the forces of nature, rather I was stuck having to care for whining humans who were too lazy or stupid to do anything themselves. I just wanted more content...this game felt rather cheap to me...
Ubisoft's usual habits made Eric Chahi an extremely unfortunate victim. His vision's been greatly impaired by Ubisoft's grubby fingers gouging out his eyes.
@GreenLockProduction its not that bad look at Capcom, they ported resident evil on PC and didnt even include mouse support, for gods sake try aiming with your keybord in FPS game xD
I like this game but I play it with a controller for the reasons the review says. It feels much better with a controller, which is bizarre for a strategy game on PC
I was going to buy the game. I tried the xbox demo and loved it, when when I "tried" it, I discovered it was a horrid port with no graphical options. So I didn't buy it. Why do all the good games I like have to suck so bad? :( Makes me shiver when I think SimCity5 is finally made.. Llama help us all.
I heard of this game a while back...looks pretty interesting, albeit a bit flawed. I guess this is where the term "sandbox game" became a literal term.
I was actully disepointed in this game....loved the demo..but seeing the game not included anything deeper like rts the option of giving a specific commands or ...anything other then the molding of the landscape ,wich is a sweet fuckign sandbox tool but..on its own ?...no... and thats not even takeing in acount all the Ubisoft bullshit..
this reminds me of the game Black And White. just better graphics. i think black and white would probably kick this games butt in over all fun. even black and white 2 is better in my humble opinion
@raJlabaJloM man, you're right. but in this case, this porting really left me disappointed... they always make a lot of promises..."oh, we'll fix that foolish drm and optimization problem...don't worry..." or something like this... and what i got is this thing ?!? steam itself refunds a lot of angry people out there...and i'm included in that list !
From Dust is nothing like Populous and it did harm to the god genre in general, meh... It sent out a message that nobody really wants them. It's boring, while Populous was amazing.
I have come from the year 2023 to inform you of the bad news that no DLC was ever released for this game, and that the UBIsoft launcher is still with us, but now it's even more bloated and called Ubisoft Connect. If that news wasn't bad enough, then wait until you find out what happens in 2020.
I'm sorry, but this doesn't sound like a good purchase. It sounds too much like an experiment that got picked up, "polished" for distribution, and then shipped out. It's a small gem surrounded by a bunch of crap.
I finished the game made it to the sandbox level shut the computer off went to sleep woke up next day was on level 1 again. FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
@GLORYIMURDER Yes. Assuming the game doesn't kill me first, as I fully intend on not doing anything but play that game until I complete it once it is released.
I laughed a bit too much at "I've been using a mouse since before I knew how to use my wang"
@bewts420 That pretty much sums it up. If this had box art it should totally be the game's subtitle.
@Blomsterbob2K You only seem them once every level, and they change slightly each time, so I didn't feel they were so intrusive as to merit mention. I do wish you could skip them though.
@fuyingbro Black and White, especially the second one, is a far better game overall. @Phoenix94ever You sure can! Spread the word :)
@rocknrollmustlive As much sand as you molest in this game, "sandbox game" does mean a little bit more than usual with this one!
loooooove this game! I would sure like to play a sequel or DLC! I wonder what mr Chahi is up to next
Hi, would you know an alternative PC game to this? I mean isn't there anything better among thegod games?
Populous: The Beginning, Black & White to a degree. But From Dust is actually pretty unique in its puzzle-god mechanics.
Alright, thanks a lot. I just discovered a free flash game called: "MicroLife" which I quite liked, but it's too short and not very demanding. Ever heard about that?
Michael Molli Play Godus
Hi Kevin, thanks looks good. Although gameplay seems to have some irrational rules.
I wish I could play Black & White. From my research it seems impossible to find without buying an old disc, and very hard to get running on Windows 10.
One of my favorite games of all time
Great review yet agian, and your cometary are awsome, very informative yet funny at the same time =D
Only LGR would make a Fellowship of the Ring joke while on trying to keep people on a volcano alive. 20/10 LOTR humor points, good sir!
This game needs some sort of random map mode, where you can sandbox your way through the whole thing with all the powerups available. I played through it once when I got it, and then never touched it again. It was fun, but one I beat it, that was it.

*insert I hate dust pun here*
It still does not have a sandbox mode. Sad.
This reminds me of populous the beginning, combined with games such as lemmings, it looks pretty cool!
Why have I only just recently found this channel?
I just mooved this game down a couple of noches on my steam wishlist. Thanks! Another great review :D
Fantastic coverage of this game, you hit ALL the points. Thanks!!!!
do you know Black&White? or better said, did you play the first one(in my eyes, the best of both games)? can you do a rewiew?
Another good review. You're more patient with this than I was. I loathed it. A bare-bones mockery of the God game genre hiding under the cloak of its "artistic" aesthetic. LGR you say there is no shiny physical copy available, but these days there is! Go ahead and grab it :p
Just wondering of what you thought of Black & White, my favorite 'god game' of all time.
to be honest i expected much more from this game... much more from Eric Chahi!!!

10byr later and this game is still dope
I just realised something. How could you not include Black and White on your top 17 of the last decade!!!?
Suppose you wernt a big of a fan as me :)
Would be interesting to know what your views on the game and it's sequel are though? If you've played them both of course?
will you do a review of skyrim?
This modern game fascism where you need a continues Internet connection or need to install some BULLSHIT resource hogging, spyware riddled and intrusive launcher killed gaming for me.

You recommend it on console? I played the console demo, and it bored me to bits :(
@phreakindee what is a good pc fps that isent rated m i need help
Was interested in this game until the Ubi thing, I have a really wonky internet connection so no dice.
Also a friend stopped playing due to the weird mouse and lack of graphics options which wasn't reasuring.
Every once in a while I remember that there's never going to be a Black & White 3 and I get really sad.
Yep
Hey we got 2 at least :D if only it was on steam
Bring this to the Switch!
3:25 is an incredibly underrated and relatable statement.
No precise movement... reminds me of Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, which the lack of precise movement is designed on purpose, don’t know if it is the case here.
please do a review of Tropico 4!!! i guarantee u will like it, its like sim city
I hope that From Dust will help bring back to life God games.
0:50 If that aint the spawn area for the shaman in Populus 3D: a new beginning, I dont know what is.
Couldn't agree more with this review! But he should've mentioned the long and repetative cutscenes you are forced to look through.
You showed populous at the start but when I played this back when it was first released on the xbox 360 during the 'summer of arcade' set they did, and was disappointed as the lack of control you really have in From Dust, it just didn't scratch that god game itch for me.
The freestyle mode is awesome on this game. I could build forever. It's no Populous game like I was hoping though.
You completed this game in 3 hours? I used 15 -.-
LOVE UR REVIEWS
RUclips 2011-2018: nothing
RUclips 2019: Hey wanna watch a review for this mediocre, forgettable video game from 8 years ago?
Me: Yeah sure, why not
4:05 "I've been using a mouse since before I knew how to use my wang !"
L0LLLL
do a theme hospital review
Idk if that was a joke or real but Black and White 1 or 2 it's a strategy game where you play as God of a tribe.
i was going to buy out of the world yesterday but i didn't :(
I was totally disappointed in this game. I just felt like I wasn't some powerful god manipulating the forces of nature, rather I was stuck having to care for whining humans who were too lazy or stupid to do anything themselves. I just wanted more content...this game felt rather cheap to me...
another solid review.
well delivered.
Ubisoft's usual habits made Eric Chahi an extremely unfortunate victim. His vision's been greatly impaired by Ubisoft's grubby fingers gouging out his eyes.
Great work Sir thank you
@GreenLockProduction its not that bad look at Capcom, they ported resident evil on PC and didnt even include mouse support, for gods sake try aiming with your keybord in FPS game xD
I like this game but I play it with a controller for the reasons the review says. It feels much better with a controller, which is bizarre for a strategy game on PC
Very simple game..it was fun and fresh at the time
I was going to buy the game. I tried the xbox demo and loved it, when when I "tried" it, I discovered it was a horrid port with no graphical options.
So I didn't buy it. Why do all the good games I like have to suck so bad? :(
Makes me shiver when I think SimCity5 is finally made.. Llama help us all.
I've had similar problems. Path tracking is terrible in From Dust. I usually kill them when they are that stupid.lol
Sold.
Easy sale; I'll grab the XBLA version next time I get paid.
I heard of this game a while back...looks pretty interesting, albeit a bit flawed. I guess this is where the term "sandbox game" became a literal term.
@Shiqna1 And your problem is trying to sound smart, when situation doesn't require your input at all.
I couldn't get on with it, perhaps if i had a controller
AhHAH! So the mask for the demoman in tf2 is a reference to From Dust! Just figured that out.
Somehow this game reminds me alittle bit of Black and White series
I was the first view and comment!! you rock phreakindee
the comment just came up and it was removed wow
this reminds me of the game Black And White. just better graphics. i think black and white would probably kick this games butt in over all fun. even black and white 2 is better in my humble opinion
So an updated GODUS with more realistic characters
@raJlabaJloM man, you're right. but in this case, this porting really left me disappointed...
they always make a lot of promises..."oh, we'll fix that foolish drm and optimization problem...don't worry..." or something like this... and what i got is this thing ?!?
steam itself refunds a lot of angry people out there...and i'm included in that list !
@hardrockalexxx
i've got 5600 dpi.
Please do a Populous: The Beginning review! 😁
Hooker power ftw :)
Looks OK but from what you've said, suffers way too much consolitis. Ubisoft are pretty bad about being cheap-asses, though, so no surprise there.
You also have, Black and White 1 and 2.
Ooooh, we've got this notion
That we'd quite like to sail the ocean
So we're building a big boat to leave here for good...
Cool!
I miss Populous
Hmm.. neat little game.
i want to start a gamers podcast who's with me?
From Dust is nothing like Populous and it did harm to the god genre in general, meh... It sent out a message that nobody really wants them. It's boring, while Populous was amazing.
i loved this game
looks like fun
I have come from the year 2023 to inform you of the bad news that no DLC was ever released for this game, and that the UBIsoft launcher is still with us, but now it's even more bloated and called Ubisoft Connect.

Yes, on PS3 the game is epic, but I can easily imagine the controls on PC being a bother.
I'm sorry, but this doesn't sound like a good purchase. It sounds too much like an experiment that got picked up, "polished" for distribution, and then shipped out. It's a small gem surrounded by a bunch of crap.

"...before I knew how to use my wang."
You mean your Wang computer, I'm sure. :P
"The Hooker Power-up" Funny, man!
Great review!
@phreakindee yo my uncle works at ibm cool huh
I’m a lemming with this game (I have the pc version)... Abe’s Odyssey is easier. 😵 I’ll stick to TS3.
Screw ubisoft, giving us crappy ports and DRM that does jack shit to pirates.
Then they wonder why they get pirated on PC..
@phreakindee But you will hurt my feelings :(
ffs, Ubisoft servers down again, cant play the game :I
@phreakindee :D
lol he said wang
