    My favorite part was watching the individual guests. If you stalk one of them for long enough, eventually you'll see the thought "I feel like someone's watching me." appear.

    I've gotta say, in the years that have passed since this video, my views on the RollerCoaster Tycoon games have changed somewhat. I'm now a much larger fan of RCT1 and 2, and less of a fan of 3. I still think RCT3 did some great stuff for its time, but I'd now say that RCT2 takes the cake as the best in the series and has aged better than 3.

    • @niespeludo
      @niespeludo 8 лет назад +63

      I have to agree with that. I believe RCT1 eases you more into its intricate system while RCT2 is the most complete once you know your stuff. I like them more than RCT3. With Planet Coaster and Parkitect releasing next to ach other, I gotta give faith to the Parkitect devs that seem to value rct1&2 more so tan RCT3

      I got RCT2 in a cereal box. I'm a big fan of RCT3, but it feels like that game will age the fastest, especially the graphics. RCT2 has a certain design that makes it very easy to play and look at years later. Other than the water based stuff which were kind of wonky in 2 and 3, RCT2 is just incredibly complete as a game. The park/business management aspect of 2 is also better than 3. The only main issue I have with 2 is the pathfinding of mechanics.

    • @coolbrotherf127
      @coolbrotherf127 8 лет назад +24

      Lazy Game Reviews I agree. I still go back to play RCT2 often, but don't go back to 3. I find the game play so charming and simple. The pixel art and fun sound design have aged so well.

    • @FrameRater
      @FrameRater 8 лет назад +20

      The second game feels timeless honestly. The options were greatly improved upon and everything became not only a lot more accessible but a lot more feasible. The only negative I have for the second game (which is actually a rather large negative) is the inability to speed up time. Thankfully now that OpenRCT2 exists we can do such a thing so there's really nothing bad to say about the game if you play it via that method now. It also has the ability to use much larger scales in land/water/scenery placement which makes the more irritating segments of gameplay a lot less irritating. I'd love to see you cover that port some day LGR, think you might?

    • @LesleyRowland
      @LesleyRowland 8 лет назад +2

      hahaha i just posted a comment about loving the 2 the best prior to seeing this comment. the game provided challenges that truly took work and gave the player a sense of true accomplishment. it's customization of landscape, pathways, and rides doubled from RCT1. lastly, you can pop balloons, drown patrons, and see a fiery, fatal explosion on rides even if it was something as simple as a water slide. so great. i wish i could get it on my mac!

    RCT is special for me. My big brother lived abroad in the Netherlands, and he came over for a few days. He brought me a copy of RCT 1. We played this game quite a lot. In fact, I still have some habits from the game that I learnt with him - building a Mery-go-Round right in front of the park four tiles away from the footpath. He also brought me a F1 simulator that was really fun.
    My brother passed away in 2010. We had a lot of fun together - went to nice concerts where we drank large amounts of beer (and had shawarma after the concert). And we played a lot of games. So... playing RTC will always remind me of him.

    I remember having RT2 and creating my own scenario. I'd give the guests excessive money and low tolerance for rides and then make a hedge maze 1 square big with no hedges.
    They'd walk right in, pay a dollar, walk right out the other side and love it.
    Had 300 mazes running on that park, earning $300 a second.

    • @VanillaMidgetSSBM
      @VanillaMidgetSSBM Год назад +10

      The core engine runs in x86 Assembly, the only parts that run in other languages are the version dependencies, for example the Windows version of Rollercoaster Tycoon is 99% Assembly, with the rest of the code being in C to make the Window panel and to hook into DirectX
      Some other fun facts about the game - Using some of the profit he made off of Transport Tycoon Chris Sawyer actually went and rode 600 different Rollercoasters and got design input from industry leaders in rollercoaster architecture to get a better understanding off how the game should function.

    One of my favorite gaming memories is with my brother and this game. He kept getting guest complains that the park is untidy. He pans the camera up and down the park and we both search hard. We find no problem. Complains still come in. I suggest searching again from another camera angle. We see the previously obscured exit path from a ride... Well actually, we don't. It's still obscured, every inch buried under a river of vomit.

    Actually, you're wrong about there being no sandbox mode - there IS one in the form of the "Mega Park", but it only becomes available when you have completed EVERY LEVEL IN THE GAME. In fact, the actual park map scenario file doesn't even manifest itself in the level folder until this happens.

I have never even played Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 because I never did everything there was to do in Roller Coaster Tycoon 1, let alone Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, and I spent probably multiple weeks of my life just playing this game. RCT and The Sims 1 are the reason I am now, as an adult, addicted to simulation games. I don't need a big story, I just need a large sandbox and you can leave me for the next few weeks with a fridge and a toilet and I need nothing more.

    6:40: Watch out for those lateral G's! Use banked turns so you don't go over 2.5. This is what's causing your intensity to go through the roof, which is killing your excitement and keeping everyone away from your ride.
    I liked the window driven interface, and didn't like the new UI in RCT3. In fact, I didn't like RCT3 at all. I played it for a bit and then went back to RCT2. If you want to get the best RCT experience, I strongly recommend playing OpenRCT2, which is a source port of RCT2 that is also compatible with all of the RCT1 content and runs well on modern systems. You can't find a better theme park management game than that.

    This game was one of the greatest sources of pure joy and pure heartbreak in my early college years. Joy, because this game is amazing. Even with the quirks mentioned at the end, I loved every minute of this game, and even after each park was on its way to victory, just sitting back and watch things happen was pretty relaxing and even therapeutic. I think the graphics and animations really make the park feel alive and organic, differently from Theme Park, where everything looked blocky and sprite-y. And the heartbreak is that, just as I was about two scenarios away from beating the game, I had a hard drive crash and lost the game and all the save files. I never managed to play this again ever since, but after watching this video, I may be ready for a second try. And with back-ups.

      RCT2 should be treated as a glorified Expansion Pack to 1. A very good one in fact, since it includes EVERYTHING from 1 (minus the RCT1 scenarios, but they've been remade by fans for RCT2 and can be downloaded), but on top of that adds quite a bit.
      RCT3 is quite different from RCT1 and 2, both with good (you can ride your coasters, 3D and the landscaping included in it, customizable scenery, etc) and bad points (can't kill guests, long load times, buggy engine). I think both are worth having though: RCT2 for the scenarios (download RCT1 scenarios with it), and RCT3 for sandbox.

    • @IMadeMyNameLong
      @IMadeMyNameLong 8 лет назад

      The thing with RCT2 for me is, that you have so much stuff there right at the beginning. I am not as happy if i get new stuff because i already have anything i need to build a big park.
      I still think it is an Awsome game but the scenarios in RCT1 have a much better Gamedesign

    • @og3171995
      @og3171995 8 лет назад +2

      RCT without any expansions is actually pretty different than RCT2. The expansions really add a lot that make it more like 2, with music, more options for queue lines, path signs, etc. I personally like to play RCT without any expansions just because when you add them to the game, it's essentially RCT2 without some of the rides and parks.

    • @TheExileFox
      @TheExileFox 8 лет назад +1

      Most of the changes are in the technical section, like larger maps, more rides, etc

    Things I loved that you didn't mention here: 1) Whimsical food stalls. I loved those designs! And everything was exactly one tile square, so it was very satisfying to drop a booth into a tiny spot. 2) Underground and nighttime gameplay. I don't think either of those made it to RCT3, and I was very disappointed. 3) I preferred the art style for the characters in RCT2. They seemed a bit too cartoonish in RCT3. 4) Discovering the joys of near-miss pathing and track placement. Free excitement with no nausea! On the other hand, it was great to be able to rotate the map in RCT3, because some things were very frustrating to place, in this game. All in all, I'd say Planet Coaster is the ultimate, but it takes a mighty rig, if your park gets very large.
