I've learnt so much from these lessons from my photography teacher Mr Galer. In fact you've taught me so much in the last couple of years that I think it's about time I signed up to support you more Mark.
You have probably noticed that there are 26 videos in this series. if you find yourself wanting additional support remember to head over to Patreon.com/markgaler support site.
Loved the video but I am still uncertain on how you can change fast from non tracking to tracking mode if you have to cycle through so many options you have chosen? Any tips
You can limit the number of focus areas and the workflow of pressing the custom key and rotating either the front or rear dial makes changing AF area a one or two second operation for me. I can provide personal support and advice on my Patreon.com/markgaler support channel.
Hello Mark. I've got myself into a slight autofocus pickle with my a6700. After making around with camera settings to find the best option for using my manual vintage lenses the autofocus stopped responding to a half-pressed shutter button. The autofocus only works when I press the AF-ON button on the back of the camera or with the screen touch function for tracking. I've been wreking my brains going through the menues over and over again all afternoon to no avail. Your A-Z set of Sony Alfa guides is the most comprehensive and useful one in the YT universe and helped my several times with various setting. Just this one is lost on me. I also watched your a6700 review that you began with a pre-a6700 wish list. I have a post-a6700 for you, a very short one: f/1.2 or faster, good quality, light weight lenses with outofocus to give us this "full frame" look from an APS-C camera. Viltrox seems to be out for a good start quality wise but still too big. Best regards, Tadeusz
Mark, Thank you such a fabulous series of videos. Clear, concise and informative. For a beginner they are the best on RUclips - my opinion! I am using a A7iii with back button focus for wildlife (heading to the Maasai Mara) and I realise that my camera does not have all of the features that you are presenting in this series. Just need a clarification: 1) When using Lock-on AF: Flexible spot do I need to continuously hold the back button focus or do I push it just once and follow? 2) What are you thoughts about the A7iii Face/Eye for animal eye? 3) When using Wide focus area, you mentioned using the joy stick to toggle to a centre focus bias, does the joy stick toggle this feature back and forth? Meaning if I want it to go to wide again do I need to depress the joy stick or does it go back to wide immediately after I take the shot(burst)? Thank you , James

is there a way of toggling between tracking on and off, sometimes i just need to move the focus box manually without tracking and at times i need to get the tracking on while half shutter press, can we assign custom key tracking on and off?
Yes - you can set the AF area to a non-tracking option but assign the AF-On button to AF-On and AF Tracking. To get the best out of your camera consider joining my Patreon Support group: Patreon.com/markgaler
What I don't understand about focus, as a beginner, is when I have a camera "wide open" for shooting at night or in dark, how do I get everything in focus vice having a blurry background?
I could write a book in response to this answer but this 90-minute video tutorial is somewhat shorter: ruclips.net/video/RJXsUFltSXo/видео.html Think of it as a lecture on the topic.
Good Morning. Does the Sony A7 IV have touchscreen shooting? Is this touch shutter? A youtuber told me that I can do it on my smartphone, but that's not what I want. On my Canon EOS 6D MarkII I just touch the screen and the camera shoots automatically! How is it possible that a camera as complete as the A7 IV does not have such a simple function??
nice tuto. i am still confused with subject tracking on A74. I am in AF-C wide eye detection and following a guy. Other guys interfere and i don't want to change wide area to tracking spot to select the first guy. I just want a quick expandible spot in subject tracking mode to help. I have understood i can activate subject tracking with LCD but how to do that with custom buttons ? Gary fong in the past seemed to say we just need to setup OK button to "center lock-on AF" (as i would do on Z6ii with Fn2 button setup to subject tracking) but i don't find that feature on a74 to set on "rear>button 2". I have tried tracking activated with AF or not but don't have a expanded spot icon on display. Can you please help ? GF link (7:00) : ruclips.net/video/TjaVyAzwRyg/видео.html
Following your tutorials, I recently bought A7IV. I am unable to find the wide option on my AF area in modes other than Auto mode. May be I deleted that option by mistake while setting up. How can I get it back? Please help.. thanks
Really, really helpful. Brief and very informative. I really appreciate you're training.
Thanks for watching. I have a ton more videos on the new Alpha cameras, including settings and menus.
the best Channel for Sony user thank you for your hard works ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Fantastic. Absolutely superb. Just changed systems to Sony and your advice is without a doubt 100% a game changer. Brilliant. 👌👍🏻

Excellent series so useful for setting up my a7iv. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
very useful series Mark, thank you
Wish you had expanded more on the various tracking options

Hi Mark, when did the Focus Mode video come out. I cannot find it in this series of short videos.

Very good as always! Curious, what auto focus area would you use most of the time for football (ie soccer)?

Good day, will the A73 ever allow the focus area color change. I have seen threads dating back to 2019 asking for this change and still nothing?
Not that I know of
@@AlphaCreativeSkills that's unfortunate, but thanks for the response!

I have seen this on some Alphas in the 'Function of Touch Operation' menu but it is not there in this menu on the A7IV.

There is a menu where you can limit or reduce the number of AF area options
@@AlphaCreativeSkills how to regain that wide option? Thanks
wide mode having 2 different icons is confusing
