Photo books gave us inspiration and new perspectives. Watching and slowing down is a bonus.

Sally Mann has multi dimensions. And I'm sure Mary does too. I love when Sally Mann says she was making photos of her children being and being children and then she realized she was putting them further and further into the background and focusing more on the landscape until she was only putting her eye on the surrounding landscape. It's such a lovely way to describe transformation and the journey and moving on. She says it better and different in the doc. But I really love it.

I got to study little with Mary Frey in grad school and she is the absolute best. It is so nice to see her work making a much deserved resurgence.

Another great photographer along these lines is Alain Laboile. His images of his family are amazing. Super loving and dynamic with a dash of humour.

2 of my fave books are Big Smoke by John Daley street photography in NZ and world famous round here by Jack Hume he photographed a small pit village near my home town for decades mostly on old glass plates a wonderful old lad with a keen eye for a photo shows a part of history sadly long gone from my old home an amazing photographic historical record. Great video Matt I have a fair few photo books in storage am in the process of putting one together of my street pix in Fiji 8 years ago Gonna do it via blurb just to have them printed for myself more than anything I did a book 10 years ago sold enough to make a wee profit every now and then I flick through a copy I kept it’s an awesome way of viewing your work far better than online imho.

    This is great!
    Thank you for sharing.
I’d like to know what is your view on found photography. I have a large collection of slides that I bought in different garage sales. I am not so sure what to do with them but by looking at the books you feature on here I think I can publish a couple of books under the found photography theme. What do you think?
    Cheers,
    Jonny Rueda

Past K-Ville! Hard to find for an affordable price, but one of my favorite books of his. If you want one that's more affordable, Summer Camp might be my favorite of his and it's still available at BPS. Links are all in the description if you're interested!
