I am glad someone else knew what a kybo is. Lure was they originally got the name from people using Kybo brand coffee to store their toilet paper in. Same experience for me, Boy Scouts in Central Pennsylvania. But we used Kybos at Camp Sylvan and Camp Timken outside London, ON.
Beautiful! I have got to try flying up there! As for fuel up at CYOO, I find taxiing to Enterprise gets me faster turn around times, especially if you go when the students are in the air :). They waive the ramp fee if you buy more than 10 L.
Glen, those windmills you observed on way to Killarney were on Henvey Inlet First Nations land. It was a huge project a few years back up this way. If you noticed just North of the windmills there is a large clear area due to the forest fires a few years ago. Looks like you enjoyed Hubert's fish and chips. Always one of my favorite flights to do during the summer.
My method of crack and pothole repair; clean out the hole of any loose material. Then paint the edge with bitumen emulsion and fill the cold bitumen bag product. Use a vehicle to compress and add more until slightly raised. ☔🇦🇺
Or is it roigh like alot of other runways except it looks alot worse because the actually had the cracks professionally treated with the heated spreadable tar. We did our fire company parking lot and drive way. The repair stands out like a sore thumb but it extends the life of the asphalt alot.
It wasn't - the brakes were on and the wheels were chocked, but I didn't tie it down. Calculated risk, but the wind was zero and forecast to be that way for the duration of our stay. Plus we were going to be less than a 10 minute bike ride away, so if anything changed we could be back pretty quick.
@GlensHangar I saw you had chocked the tires and assumed the brakes were set. It's just, you spent so much getting it to where it is now. I would hate to see some freak accident happen to it.
Out of curiosity and lack of any knowledge of flying, why would you cross an airfield at the mid section like you did? Do you not worry about other planes that may be coming in? I get that you have communication with other traffic but it would seem like a area of a field you'd want to avoid.
I know it sounds counterintuitive - But in Canada that's one of the established points for VFR landing circuit entry. It gives you a full look at all of the other aircraft in the circuit, and it's a pretty safe place to be since you are well above planes landing or taking off from the runway. Hard to describe, but as long as everyone follows the rules, it's safe.
My first flight with you both, and I loved it 😍. I did not know there was a Killarney Provincial Park in Ontario. I graduated from Killarney Secondary School in Vancouver!
Must be a pit privy or outhouse. Is there a four season village? Beautiful, of course. "Geese! Geese!" Sharp eye, just the quality you need in your spotter! Have a blessed day 💖✝
I dare say this is an adaptation of the $100 hamburger trope among aviators. Its common to spend a Saturday morning flying to an airport an hour away for a hamburger lunch similar to what you could easily get in your home town. The cost aviation gas drives up the cost.
"So with you, the bikes, and full fuel, its very sluggish to get off the ground". Translation: I want/we need an O-360 conversion with a Powerflow tuned exhaust system 😁
definitely need the upgrade - but I also had a few sandbags in the plane as well to get us up to max gross weight. We're planning a long cross country up to the Arctic later this summer, and we'll be at max weight on that trip. So we've been flying heavy to make note of performance at the edge of the envelope. If only I had a spare $100K floating around for that engine upgrade, I'd do it in a minute!
Hi G&J, The Oshawa ATC sounts like a character from James Bond films. Assuming those are fresh water lakes, what kind of fish are they serving? Trout? Bass? Croppie? Cheers.
Great response on the go-around. Too many recordings of pilots not being able to mentally readjust to a new directive/objective and getting snarky or flustered.
The approach into Oshawa was so busy, that I was prepared for it. As I turned final 16:54 you can hear Tower warn me that the go around was a possibility. It's all part of flying, you just have to roll with it; ATC is working hard to try and keep us safe, but sometimes the pilot just can't see the bigger traffic picture and that can be a problem.
They are Helix folding bikes: helix.ca - If I pull the seat off the bike, they will just slide through the baggage door if I get the angle right. I gave up on that. So now they go through the passenger door and stow where the backseat in the plane used to be. They are 25 pounds, so pretty easy to maneuver inside the plane.
My curiously absolutely got the best of me and I had to check the maps between midland and Killarney to find the wind warm. Haha. Looks like the land belongs to Hanvey Inlet First Nation - Ojibwe people ?
Awesome. I was there by car last year when I visited family in Toronto. You should have said Hi to the Zenair folks. I‘m sure they would have shown you around like they did for me. This is basically the Canadian headquarter and they do prototyping there. Main production is in the US though.
The commercial airport and Ketchikan Alaska is like landing in Killarney. I honestly thought we were going to land in the water and something was wrong when I flew in there for the first time. It's not until the last few feet that you see the runway happening and then they slam on the brakes. Today's ride was really fun looking forward to more and definitely don't put music over all that tower chatter and stuff.
I’m yet to come into a small airport that is super busy like that. I don’t look forward to it but I do look forward to improving my skills to handle it. Killarney is further north than I had guessed - looks like a spectacular day of flying. I’m looking forward do doing something similar from Chicago to the grass strip on Washington Island north of Green Bay one day.
I like those bikes, very cool! Hey Glen, I know you’re a camera guy. A few years ago I had a action cam called a Contour by NFlight, it was a lipstick style unit that was very good with inputs for audio and external power. It also had an optional filter that changed the warped / stuttering propellor into a more typical blur. Dunno what it was called, but maybe something worth looking at for your vids? Love your work as always.
Most of those other cameras have bitten the dust - dominated by GoPro and DJI. I could change the shutter angle on these cameras to smooth the prop strobe into a blur, or add an ND filter to do the same. But after testing there's a few artifacts that I found more annoying than the strobing. I setup one of my cine cameras for a test, and while the picture looked amazing, I couldn't babysit it while flying. A while back I did a camera shootout video with a bunch of different action cams on the plane - pretty dismal all around.
Cool. Yes, saw that shootout, very interesting! I managed to get the wife tpo sit down and watch this vid with me, by way of demonstrating what we can do when the RV14 is eventually built, she was very positive so thanks for that. Cheers.@@GlensHangar
Being from Sudbury, we have fish and chips at Killarney all the time. Did you partake in any other sightseeing while there? The lighthouse is picturesque and a great view of the Bay
There are a number of flight schools based at Oshawa, and I just happened to be coming in at a time when all of the school planes were also coming back in. Every once in a while it syncs up that they all leave for the practice area at the same time, and then all arrive back at the same time.
Wonderful! Love fish and chips, big plus.
Love the vertical perspective on the forest and lakes.
Just finished watching your oatmeal cookie post. Would have made a good snack to take along on the flight!
Glen, can you kindly do another run of your hats? I started watching your channel too late to get one. Thanks!
I've had a lot of requests for this - I'm thinking about it. Maybe this fall / winter.
Cool bikes. My grandfather had a folding bike.
Had to research; it's a pit toilet ... fond but stinky memory of camping in my youth.
I have only heard them called that in Boy Scouts, so I now don't know if its a Canadian thing or a boy scout thing.
Keep Your Bowel Open - Scouts Canada Vernacular! Be prepared! 😂 Looked like an awesome flight I grew up in Barrie... Love it up north!
Love Killarney! It’s our favourite place to fly for a quick overnight or lunch.
I love this video and the freedom it represents.
The look down camera is so interesting and beautiful.
Lol, it freaks me out a bit.
Keep Up Your OUTSTANDING Videos Sir Cheers 🍻🍻

That runway at Killarney looks like someone picked it up and dropped it. It broke into a million pieces and had to be glued back together.
It is a little rough around the edges.
My method of crack and pothole repair; clean out the hole of any loose material. Then paint the edge with bitumen emulsion and fill the cold bitumen bag product. Use a vehicle to compress and add more until slightly raised.

@@matthewcoll9845 The consistency of the repairs are a clue to that.
Killarney and fish and chips are synonymous.
I may have missed it, but when you left to get your fish and chips. I didn't see the aircraft was tied down.
It wasn't - the brakes were on and the wheels were chocked, but I didn't tie it down.

I always thought that KYBO was an acronym for Keep Your Butt Off because outhouses were typically gross and you wanted to touch as little as possible.

My mom used to pass her glasses like that when she wanted to switch.
He is like a women
We use to summer not far from there on Manitoulin. Fish and chips are great around there. Purvis fisheries.
I think the massive windfarm is Henvy Inlet Indian reservation.
Turkey vultures.Dark. I love it. Thanks Glen.
That was funny about the turkey vulchers and training day....and I think you flew over my farm :)
Man, what beautiful shots you get up there, Glen! Thanks for another fun video. Always look forward to them!
I remember kybo from scouting. Another term for an outhouse.
I've had fish and chips there while on a camping trip to the provincial park. It's a long drive from southern Ontario.
Those folding bikes look a lot bigger then the ones you usually see. I can believe they are quite nice to ride.
Yes they 'ride' like a regular bike - the bigger tires help with that. Even though the bikes a bit bigger they are just under 25 pounds.
Must be a pit privy or outhouse. Is there a four season village? Beautiful, of course. "Geese! Geese!" Sharp eye, just the quality you need in your spotter! Have a blessed day 💖✝
Love your videos. Thank you.
Those camera shots looking straight down are beautiful
A favourite stop for me too, after I forget my sunglasses. 🙄 I roll in on my electric unicycle. So peaceful to eat on the docks there.
I thought after the blind tasting, you liked Pepsi better??
Good one G&J - Thanks for making - Luv small airports and the freedom (and Fish!) - Tailwinds - Cheers! Mike in NM
There's a floating fish and chips shop in Nanaimo harbour. That's closer to the water lol.
Yes there's always somewhere 'closer' -
do y'all ever bake cookies or something for your local tower?
$100 for fish/chips? .. those are American meal prices!

Zenith still has a presence in Midland. I believe they actually started in Nobleton Ontario on King Road

Another great video Glenn. Looking forward to our next little adventure.
Love the fact you are touring around on bikes! This is my idea of flight tourism!
Hi G&J, The Oshawa ATC sounts like a character from James Bond films. Assuming those are fresh water lakes, what kind of fish are they serving? Trout? Bass? Croppie? Cheers.
We had 'Lake Whitefish' (Coregonus clupeaformis), but there are a couple other fish on the menu as well.
😎that is such an awesome day out!

What kind of fish is favored for Georgian Bay fish &. Chips?

I'd like to think that my comment on ruclips.net/video/FCKfijAUx2w/видео.html was the inspiration for this episode. :)
Hi Glen, what make are the bikes?? Did you have to remove the rear seat to get them in??

So how long does it take to fly from Oshawa to Killarney? It looks like driving would be about 4.5 hours or whatever that is in metric.

Awesome video. Landing over my house at Oshawa, my grandparents live 5 houses down the street from the Midland airport my type of flight.
Too many Canadians used to be able to live and work off this land. To bad there is a limited amount of restaurants there
That’s Hwy 11 going into Orillia, Hwy 400 is a little further west
Glen, What was all the traffic on the way in to Oshawa?
There are a number of flight schools based at Oshawa, and I just happened to be coming in at a time when all of the school planes were also coming back in. Every once in a while it syncs up that they all leave for the practice area at the same time, and then all arrive back at the same time.
What a great life! Enjoy!
Same sort of mess happens at night when nights are short. You can see people cause of lights but man does it feel close!
Absolutely love the quality of the shots. Well done.
Love Killarney it's one of our favorite places
Do you still prefer coke? Haha
What’s name of restaurant!
12:21 The water looks like it has oil on it? Did something happen?
Just a trick of the light and tiny little ripples on an otherwise calm and glassy lake.
Lunch is flying yum
Did you serve in the RCN Glen?
no - The guy who owns the company who makes those hats (Red Canoe), also has his plane serviced by Chris. They are a pretty high quality hat.
❤
Should be call jigsaw airport.
Best fish and chips ever! Thanks
No bike helmets, shame on you 😊
Yeah and make sure you have that bubble wrap taped around you also lol
Another lovely video thanks folks.
In countries where biking is the main source of transportation most people don’t wear helmets 🙂
