    The Logitech K400 is hands down the best wireless keyboard I have ever owned or used. It is better than the other Logitech K Series products, and better than any of the others. I think they used to also make one with the Mac style with control, option and command keys as well as the PC option with the Windows super key.

    The RII....isnt crap...its the best MINI keyboard out there.... The K400 is WAYYY to big on my table.

    • @skiwithpete
      @skiwithpete  9 лет назад +1

      wackid I stand by my review. My Rii misses key presses and often has problems sync'ing, plus it is small and difficult to input text with. The K400 works perfectly and reliably every time.

    • @Justdigit2
      @Justdigit2 9 лет назад +4

      skiwithpete I think you miss the point when you say you are reviewing XBMC kodi keyboards/remotes....
      It has to be small and not a big lump of plastic laying around the sitting area. And you dont have to write word documents in XBMC. So comfortable Typing is less important.
      My K400 is catching a lot of dust irght now.
      Like my RII I28 way more.....gyroscope function, touchpad, and backllit keys...
      All you need in a XBMC remote.

    I use the same Logitech Keyboard/Mouse combo and it works really well. Another really great option is to take a device that is running Android (I use an old Nook Color modified with Android) and install the Yatze app. It is just excellent, give it a try with your smartphone or any other Android device you have sitting around, it is feature rich and fun to use.

    • @skiwithpete
      @skiwithpete  10 лет назад

      Yeah, I should do another review with alternative methods, because Yatze is really good.
      Stay tuned,

    I've been thinking of getting a physical remote for my XBMC setup.
    But I've always used my Galaxy S4 with the "Yatse" remote app. Works a treat :)

    • @skiwithpete
      @skiwithpete  10 лет назад +1

      You know that's one thing I forgot to cover... but you're absolutely right. Yatse is a great remote. I rarely use it though, I still reach for a physical remote more often than not.

    the logitech keyboard is the best option because it does everything except turn the box on. furthermore most people are now moving to android boxes or intel nuc or even chromeboxes because xbmc runs fantastically well on them especially if they are quad core processor based. it couldnt be more simple to use the k400 keyboard either. just plug the dongle into the back of an android box and youre done.

    I have the Rii i8 and I don't have any problem with it. But like any other touch pad on any laptop or keyboard is if you press to hard while trying to move mouse you can open a window or program or what ever it is, which I hate. Why they just make, so it moves the mouse only and double press or single press will do nothing. That's what the left or right buttons are. But other then that I have no problem. Other thing what I like is Air mouse on one side and keyboard on the other side and that what I use most of the time in my living room and bedroom I use the Keyboard Rii i8

    Good video! I wondered a lot about those other devices but was glad to see we both ended up with almost the same conclusion. I now use my Ipazzport 810-16R Air mouse which is very similar to your Rii Remote. Mine has a tv remote on the other side. It's not perfect but it's the best I've tried so far. I wonder what you would think.

    I don't know if you've already updated your preferences but I'd be curious know your take on the "FLIRC". Seems to be a usb dongle that be programmed to receive the signal of any random remote (if it's limited to infrared or also does RF I'm a little unclear on still, it says it works with PS3 and harmony remotes though) and assign the button to keyboard keys. I only just learned about it so I don't really know how it works. I'm surprised there isn't more of a hobbyist community around it frankly. Or if there is it's not very visible on RUclips that I can tell. Take a random nicely laid out remote from 2006 or whatever and using it for at least the basic XBMC controls seems like it should be appealing.

    • @skiwithpete
      @skiwithpete  8 лет назад

      +Tildesare Cool Yeah, but the question is, why? With the Pi's built in compatibility to receive commands on the TV remote over HDMI - why do you need a FLIRC? And, if, like me, you don't dig the tv remote, why not go full keyboard on usb? I suppose if you are using an application other than Kodi it might make sense... just not sure about it in this application. Am I being crazy?

  • @LundMr1

    Did you try the trackpad in later versions on kodi? Linux is constantly updated with new drivers :) It only takes one dude somwhere to write a driver for the trackpad. Since it already works that one dude only needs to map the keys. Seems pretty straight forward :)

    Sometime its better to try thing out yourself instead of taking reviews like this seriously. the white Rii works like a dream maybe there's something wrong with the hardware he is using but i am impressed with it and its a sturdy enough remote, the buttons are not meant to be hammered down just treat it with care and you will have no problem with it.Its very responsive so no need to press on the buttons hard and works at a better distance than some of the other remotes i have. Sorry i strongly disagree regarding the 2nd Rii white model which also comes in black. Works fine on my new Supa T8 Box so might be a software issue with some gadgets. plus its cheap which is always a bonus.

    • @skiwithpete
      @skiwithpete  9 лет назад

      Paul Obatuyi do you use windows? I hear that these things are good quite frequently - but certainly not the ones I have. Still trying to figure out the differences between the reviews, cause mine isn't getting any better...

  • @pecosdave
    @pecosdave 7 лет назад

    I'm going to chime in because I've had a different experience than skiwithpete here. I have a bluetooth version very similar to the first gen Rii, I don't much care for it, mostly because it doesn't reconnect reliably. I'm considering that Bluetooth related issues, not with Bluetooth in general but with the remote not doing it well, so I'm going to defer to Mr. skiwithpete's opinion and advise - don't do Bluetooth with this thing. Second, the Logitech keyboard, I haven't used it on a Kodi system, but there's quite a few of those in the conference rooms at work. I hate them, it takes forever to input my passwords due to the right shift key being practically unusable, but I concede it might work out well for Kodi - don't buy one of these for serious work. The newer model Rii - I absolutely love. I've bought several - they don't survive drooly toddlers or getting stomped by a mom in a hurry too well so I'm on my third or fourth, but I'm happy to report this latest one has latest quite a long time, mostly because my son is past the steal it and drool all over it stage.
    Disclosures - I use Kodi differently than Mr. skiwithpete. I don't really care much about the typing aspect. Occasionally I will look for something on RUclips, but 95% of my Kodi time is with movies I own and have placed on the server from media I have purchased. My method of using Kodi is more like using a video game controller. The newer Rii model excels at arrow keys, hitting enter, and hitting escape - my main concerns. It also types and has a pointer - I actually have the pointer disabled on my Kodi system.
    On the newer Rii, there's a super cheap model and a cheap model. They're both great. I advise the one that costs about $5 more for one reason, there's some physical division on the arrow input that is great for tactile control while the super cheap one works just as well, but if you're not looking it's easy to try to push diagonally on accident. For tactile reasons alone spend the $5 extra.

    Rii X1 backlit is also on of my favorites so far (works with android and Kodi well other than getting used to function keys). After searching amazon and ebay looks like that's what I'll stick with for now. Good review, I also agree the second gen is a piece of junk.

      marky de sade the Rii X1 is backlit, as is the updated Logitech K830. The new logitech is a little more expensive, but if you're patient and do your research you'll find that the price fluctuates pretty wildly and you can get it for pennies more than the older K400...

    Thanks for the review. I am looking at a replacement for my Logitech Dinovo Mini which has served me well for 7 years but is falling apart.
    I cannot believe it is so hard to find a small keyboard mouse combo that works with kodi.
    Have you tried the Rii i28? This is the one I am leaning too. It has good reviews. Actually the IPhone App works real well, so responsive. Don't know why they can't develop a keyboard using that technology. If it wasn't for the fact you have to sign in everytime I would use that all the time.
    Anyone used the Rii 28 that can provide feedback. My main concern is responsiveness, distance, charge life and Kodi functions like media player etc

    • @skiwithpete
      @skiwithpete  8 лет назад

      +Neil Stewart well, not really. I mean, it has a cursor on screen which doesn't work in Kodi. So that sucks. The roller kicks you out to TV mode, so don't touch that. The enter button is under the roller, so you can't roller the roller when you click enter. So really... you can only use four buttons to navigate (which are small and located around the roller). And that enter button... So, in fairness, it's probably more completely shit than I give it credit in this film. Buy the K400. End of.

      libCEC means that with the right type of TV and the right type of HDMI cable - your TV controller will control your RaspBMC.
      What's the right type of TV? One from the last 10 years or so. Definitely if your TV is from the last 5 years.
      And the right HDMI cable is one that supports version 1.3A
