Learning How To Ride A Rebel 300 (Day 1)

- Опубликовано: 27 ноя 2021
- A couple weeks ago I bought a Honda Rebel 300 so my girlfriend could learn to ride motorcycles, and today is her first day on the bike! I showed her all the bike's controls, taught her the basics of riding a motorcycle, and then she hopped on the Rebel and gave it a shot!
To teach her how to ride a motorcycle for the first time, we practiced walking with the bike to get a feel for it and then did some work on learning where the friction zone/engagement point of the clutch is. We were only out for about 40 minutes and she was already able to get the Rebel 300 rolling!
She's taken my Honda Grom around the parking lot in first gear a couple times before, but this was her first time learning to ride a full sized motorcycle, and I think she CRUSHED IT!! For a beginner rider I was super impressed with how quickly she learned, even while being intimidated her first time on a bike just like we all were when we first learned to ride!
This little Rebel 300 is honestly the PERFECT first motorcycle for her and I can't wait to watch her progress as we get to go out and practice more!

Broski! Your patience and teacher mindset here was phenomenal. No frustration, irritation, or rushing at all. Just letting her get familiar and comfortable while helping her was awesome. Textbook example of teaching a skill to anyone! 👊 🤘
She already rode a grom, It is just a show. All the fuck ups happened with the grom.
He's a good af teacher
Unbelievable
Unreal patience so good to see
I so agree with you. I've not seen anyone that patient in teaching someone to ride.
Go for it guys! I am 60 and touched a bike for the first time this past May at a MSF class. Passed the class on my second time at the end of August. Healthy fear is good it keeps us on our toes. That being said, enjoy the ride!
Is this the first time you have ridden a motorcycle ? I assume that you are very comfortable peddling a bicycle around . I am 71 but I used to own a motorcycle in my youth , this Rebel motorcycle has renewed my desire to get one so I am somewhat in the same boat as you !
Welcome to the family 🏍️
Same here. Age 65 and just took my MSF course a couple of weeks back (20 days to be precise.) That was originally with the intention of getting licensed to ride a Vespa, but after learning the manual shifting, I'm now gunjy to consider a Honda Rebel as well. So I'll be building my skill set and confidence on the scooter and when I'm ready, I'll joing my Harley riding son with my own cruiser. At this point , Sonny Boy is riding with me. We do look the odd lot--a 1200 Sportster along a Vespa GTS 300. lol
I’m 49 & considering a bike
Probably one of the best and most informative vids you’ve done. Nina seems very self aware and sharp thru the process. Get her to use two fingers only on the levers to instill a better sense of control. Hope to see you guys on the road one day.
Thanks man! Definitely plan on working up to just two fingers on the clutch, but it’s a bit hard for her to reach right now until we get some adjustable levers for her! Hopefully soon though 🤞🏻
I'm 5'1" and OLD (47) and this video helped me ride again after a torn left miniscus and arthritic hands. Thanks for being kind and good to her.
I remember in my MSF course they told me I did good, but needed to use all 4 fingers to brake. They didn’t deduct any points but mentioned it.
I said ok but never planned on changing it. It just made more sense to me to do it that way.
Nina all the feelings and emotions that you were going through were the same exact emotions that I’ve gone through so don’t let that hold you back. I’m still quite new to riding and get nervous every time I get on the bike and that’s a good thing because I think it keeps you alert. I’m looking forward to seeing day two of you learning to ride. If I may suggest which I’m sure you already know by now, please wear boots in case you drop the bike and it falls on you, you don’t want your feet to get smash/crunched. My first time on the bike just like what you did today, I came to a stop in the parking lot and forgot to put my feet down and down I went with the motorcycle on top of me and I was wearing tennis shoes. From that day forward every time I got on the bike to practice I always slipped my boots on. Good luck!
Anita, seconding everything you wrote. Although I love riding, almost 10 years now, I still get a bit nervous when I’m doing my pre-ride check. I hope she watches your channel. It’s so good.
Good advice. And knee pads saved my knee from breaking.
This was awesome!!
Mike is so patient and calm as the instructor and Nina did an amazing job!!!!
She’s doing great! I would get her used to the clutch and friction zone by just duck walking the bike around the parking lot, no brake or gas. I’ve taught many, many people to ride that way successfully. No need to rush anything, she will be riding in no time
Yup, that’s what we were doing! Some of the duck walking turned into foot dragging though because she’s so excited to just get her feet up and go! 😂 Love seeing how excited she is about it!
I respect the fact that you show yourself dropping the bike in your intro
Makes people who are new to this feel like making mistakes isn’t bad and is just part of life
Great video
great job on the teaching man, that kind of patience and reassurance goes a long way in helping the new riders keep at it.
I am 5’3” on a good day and used to ride a rebel 250 15 years ago… just got the rebel 500!
Great advice at the end, and I remember all those feelings you had.
Excited to see your progress!
Good for you. My wife is over 60 and she learned to ride on her Monkey. She was riding around the parking lot the first day. She passed her test on the first try she has a Rebel 500 now also. She actually likes the Rebel better because the seat height is lower than the Monkey. We wanted to get the same bike for her and me. That is why we got two 500s. It's perfect for her to learn on and still enough bike for me. Best of luck to you.
Hi amanda! Does both your feet can touch the ground on during stop? Im also 5'3 and wondering what's the perfect bike for me. Thanks!
@@Cxrdero easily! I think the slim design of the 300/500 Rebel body makes this possible. It’s so comfortable to ride ☺️
I'm the same in the 5'3 club. Any recommendations for the first timer bike ?
@@womanhoodisnotacostume7648 I highly recommend the Honda Rebel 500. Any less cc and in a month or so you’ll wish you had the 500. They make the 1100 too, but the tank is a bit wider, which pushes your legs out a bit, and for me, made my feet reach a bit too much for comfort.
I watched this video for the first time a couple months ago and just brought home my first bike yesterday(Honda Rebel 300). I had my dad drive it home from the dealership for me. This morning I rode it around my parking lot a few times. I started to get really disheartened by how many times I stalled, then I remembered this video. Rewatching it to soothe my confidence. Thank you so much for this video. The vibes are immaculate. I love how supportive and kind you are Burch, and how vulnerable and honest Nina is. Honestly I'm getting emotional watching you. This video is really helping me release some of that internal criticism and prep myself to get back out and keep practicing. Thank you both so much.
Was there a day 2? 3? I was stoked to see her progress because my wife just finished the MSF a few weeks ago and I was completely jacked to see how well she rides now after just 2 days of formal training.
Hey thanks for making this video. I am 52 years old and went through the rider course last year. I was super excited about riding for the first time and loved the course. I watched 2 people crash the bike ( they were both ok) and it seemed to happen out of nowhere. And that was just in a parking lot going pretty slow. You’re right. A healthy amount of fear is a good thing.
You go Nina! Stick with it, it will be the best decision of your life! 😁 awesome video! Love seeing people falling in love with motorcyceling 😁
Thanks dude! Definitely been awesome watching her fall in love with riding!
Absolutely love the authenticity, thank you for this!
This was the most calm interaction between a male and female under stress that I have ever experienced! You are both amazing. Many blessings.
That was the greatest beginner video I've ever seen. The questions she asked were so good. The self talk. And the realistic pace of learning something new. Great video guys!
Love everything about this. Literally the exact experience of feelings when I got my Rebel 300 in October. So happy for you!
You go girl ! Awesome job. Looking forward to seeing day two. I'm watching for it.
Me and my girl have been watching your vids for a while and she has never been more entranced than this one. She was literally hopping up and down because she was EXACTLY like Nina when she started out on her Rebel 500 last fall! Keep at it!
A really good lesson....I'm surprised. Not sure what I expected. Nina did well. Do remind her that ripped jeans will not protect her knees even in a low speed car park drop, same with gloves. I was pleased she fastened her jacket towards the end. Safety is one thing that's important to get right from the start. Good luck.
Well said, enjoyed episode. One year down and I still stop when I feel like I should. Great job Nina
I love this video !!!! Seeing her honesty on how she felt is what I’m going through. So it felt good knowing this is normal for a new rider . Great vid !!!!! Thank you
as a girl that is getting her licence soon this video is exactly what i needed! i wanted to get a licence and a bike for nearly ten years now so the anxiety is SO HIGH. this video made me realize how being nervous is totally normal and how i should not stress over it! thank you so much for posting it
So wholesome, supportive and informative. I love it.
That was the sweetest and most patient teaching!
Congrats on your first real life bike experience! Looking forward to seeing your progress! You have a great teacher. I like how he validates your fear. The more you practice, the less fear you’ll have. Enjoy!
I'm considering getting a motorcycle and this video is so helpful - both his instruction and her "in the moment" descriptions of her feelings. Thank you!
I love this! She’s still way ahead of me when I first started, and that was after I had taken the MSF course. She’ll be hitting the roads in no time. 🙂 I can’t wait to have her join us riding at the next meet up!
I love teaching people new things they didn't think they could do. I am so impressed with how you have handled yourself and are teaching her. You have earned a Sub big time. Take it easy Nina and enjoy the ride!
Learning myself right now too and feel all the same feels. Great job!
Way to go to both of you. To me this is exactly how learning to ride should be. A patient kind and supportive teacher and a student taking their time getting familiar with everything and not getting in a rush while recognizing her fear and facing it at the same time using that normal and healthy fear to keep you safe. Best of luck on your journey learning to ride. I think this is a great video to help beginners start to understand what it’s like your first time on a bike. We were all beginners at one time and watching this video reminded me of my own similar experiences getting started in a parking lot getting to know my motorcycle. Keep the rubber side down and your knees in the breeze! Good luck and God Bless!
Excited to see her progression as a new rider myself. Good luck and safe riding.
Another great video Mike! I'll be retiring in another couple years and plan to get my motorcycle instructor's license. This video makes me realize how much we riders take for granted. What seems so simple and obvious to us is a TOTALLY new learning experience for new riders. It's great to see them "get it" and move on to the next level! 👍🏍
I am learning to ride, and I love that Nina is showing her vulnerability and speaking the fears I have. Thanks!
I'm thinking about getting this bike but haven't gotten my license YET and I just came from one of her vlogs where she was taking her first solo day trip on this bike.. so encouraging and amazing to see how she's riding on her own now! soooo rad
She did great! And ty for honesty!
I’m 44 and finally have that itch in my life to learn to ride a motorcycle. I’m looking at just cruising roads and towns where I live. Nothing fancy. Had my eye on a Rebel 300 and this is such a great video. Thanks for doing this. Has me excited for my MSF class in the spring!
This is what learning and progress looks like. A great teacher and an equally receptive student. Real goals and expectations. Congrats to both, thanks for sharing!
As someone getting a Rebel 300 as their first bike, and is currently studying for the MSF, this video is great.
Great mindset, Nina! Burch is really great at supporting you!
Seeing her progress from this to her passing the test to the solo trip has been so badass! GO NINA!
Bro this video is amazing. Her reactions are priceless. What a great job teaching and encouraging
The way your showing the basics and going slow taking the time, is super helpful
Really helping me understand and know things I didn't know just like her..
Thanks man
Keep on keeping on my friends
Nice video showing enthusiasm, patience and common sense in both tuition and learning.
These are ABSOLUTELY the kind of videos the internet needs. Thank you!
bro i needed this. little things i never knew like the shifting one gear at a time. i didnt know itd only go up or down one. that instills more confidence in me :) thanks bud and its almost been 6 months! im gonna check more recent vids and see how thngs are going but as a beginner i needed to see this
btw man youre a good teacher i feel like she felt comfortable and more nervous about the bike than you taeching. a lot of teachers give off bad vibes with seeming annoyed or whatever and you did a great job letting her cuss and get the heebie jeebies out
So awesome! Such patience
I don't often write comments, but this was such a good-vibes video. I don't know how I got here, but I just watched the video and felt good, props to Nina for being so reflected and chill.
It is really interesting seeing someone learning to ride, and I'd love more of this stuff.
Keep up the work.
Like others that have never been on a bike I landed here looking to increase my knowledge. This video had the perfect balance of a teacher with plenty of patience and encouragement and the student willing to listen, ask questions, and share her learning experience with others that may go on the same journey. Thank you.
This is excellent. I rode some bikes back in the day but never very fast. I’m planning on getting a new Rebel 300, and I’ve been pretty nervous about it. But this video is really great and helped to give me some confidence! You guys are great.
I’m looking to get a bike (also a Rebel) and everything discussed here was exactly how I felt when my dad in law helped me out with the clutch, walking out the bike, friction zone, etc.
You’re right. People should understand there’s a fear and a sense of accomplishment when learning. Chase them goals! Thank you!
Great job to the both of you!
This was really great! It is a rare person who does not feel that fear. It’s healthy. So glad you made this video. Thanks!
Great video & thanks for putting it out here!
I'm in the beginning of my journey with a new Rebel 500 and I'm 5'4". 😊 I totally relate!
Love this video. I’m wanting to get this same bike as my first and I’ve never ridden before. I am her size/height and totally feel the same way/fears. You’re a super encouraging and patient teacher. I’m hoping when I take my course, I have someone who is like this.
Literally taking my BRC tomorrow. You have perfect timing, and great instructions!
Awesome content! I just purchased my Rebel 500 SE!. I took the Total Control Safety course and have my license but I still need so much more practice. Love seeing more women riders and the process. Keep it coming Nina!
Your a good teacher, I learned more in this video then other 30 videos I watched
Love watching these videos, I’m getting my first bike some time this year and this is the one I want as just a cruiser to the gym, work etc
This is such a great video on so many levels!!!!😊
Great first experience video! Thank you for your vulnerability! You are helping me get ready!
I have been thinking about learning how to ride for a while now. I’ve always been scared, never ridden a motorcycle before and I stumbled upon your vid because I saw the Honda Rebel 300 was one of the best bikes to learn on, very informative and great video bro!! Your patience and encouragement with Nina, is admirable and legit motivated and helped me out! Great content and this video was jackpot for me in wanting to learn! Thanks bro! Definitely subbed and look forward to more of your vids! 👊🏼😎
Great to see someone learning to ride. Fun experiences
I really enjoyed this video, the encouragement was awesome standing in front of the bike as she rolls off helped her to be conscious of the amount of clutch to let out., Thanks for sharing.
Great teaching style. I'm registered for the entry safety course next month so this was very helpful. Good job.
Absolutely fantastic video.
Fear plays such a role for novice riders. Overcoming it, in a positive way, and not being judgemental about it...
You teach really well.
Love it! 1 thing I'd say is even during learning in a parking lot low speed we still need to be wearing gear, especially proper shoes and gloves
Honestly this video was so validating of how I’m feeling. Just went to get a Harley iron 883 yesterday to be my first bike and I’m feeling exactly how she is. I’m excited and scared at the same time can’t wait to learn and be comfortable riding. Thank you for the video!
Love this video. Picking up my 300 this weekend! First time rider YAAAAA!!!
This is a great video! That's how you want to teach someone. Nice and easy with no pressure.
So proud Nina! Be safe and don't let that fear stop you!
I love that I'm not the only one that talks to myself while I'm learning.
I just got my first rebel 2 days ago and am just getting the basics down and it is scary bit I'm so excited!!!
I cannot thank you both enough for this video. I have watched a ton of “beginner how to” videos but most of them speak as if you already know stuff. I don’t. But to hear him actually speak and teach an actual person on a bike ( together with her POV ) it just felt like I, myself, am being taught firsthand. I love how she delved into the fear of the bike and him saying how most of that fear comes from people telling you how hard and dangerous riding is. I’ve been wanting to get a bike of my own but I’ve never driven one before at all. He was right to say that the internet needs these kinds of vids. I have learned more in this one vid than all the other ones. Not just motorcycle stuff but also the mental approach to it.
Thanks so much for posting this!!! Extremely love the idea! Great job on the first time riding the 300. I am doing the same thing in the next three months. Treating myself to a rebel for my bday!
I’m proud of her for starting this journey.
She's a treat! and youre the MAN man. great video.
This is one of the most useful videos I have seen. I will definitely get me a motorcycle. Thank you guys. !!
This is one of the most wholesome things I've ever seen.
Thank you so much for this video. Is exactly how I feel. I want to ride so bad. I’ve been practicing for 2 weeks a little almost every day. I’m struggling with stalling though over and over. I got disheartened today and watching this made me feel not so alone.
OMGosh. Thank you for sharing this video. It was so nice to see young folks showing kindness, caring, support, thoughtfulness, and respect towards each other. Especially between a man and woman. You just don't get to see that anymore.
It also brought back memories from my late 30s when I first learned to ride. I couldn't hold my balance. But quickly improved. Much luck and happiness. 👍
Glad to see Nina stuck to it and learned how to ride! You were absolutely justified in being nervous! I was scared shitless when I first started. I locked the breaks up and flipped on my side during the MSF road test! Thank god they let me redo it without having to pay for another class.
My girl is about to buy her first bike. She loved this video and would like to see more of Nina learning.
You’re a natural teacher man!! Super rare quality to have, and I’m very thankful I came across your channel!
Well done Nina, nerves are good. I'm 59 and rode bikes all through my younger days including being a courier in central London then came marriage, kids house etc and a 20 year break. When I got back on two years ago I was as nervous as hell and still am at times until the wheels start turning, stick with it the feeling can't be beat.
I'm buying this exact bike for myself next week & this video really helped me a lot you make a great teacher
Awesome vid, been wanting to teach my wife to ride. When we met she told me as a girl she wanted to ride motorcycle but life gets in the way. I want to help her, but I think this vid can help her more than I can by showing her that she is not alone in her interest and fear of learning to ride. Great job to you both. Love the vids and the rebel. Was looking to pick up a Grom or Rebel 300 for the wife (and Me) as my old '86 1100 Sportster with no signals and drag clutch and carb do not make a good beginner bike. I will stay tuned for more!
Love the quotes! Motivational speeches 🔥🔥🔥
Nina you did great I just started riding about 8 months ago. I have the rebel 500. When you get all the important stuff down it's a blast. Take it slow learn everything at very slow speed. I am excited you watch you grow I'm motorcycling.
This is going to help me so much, I’m about to get a rebel 300 and I’ve never rode before but watching this is definitely going to help!
Hands down one of the most informative videos ive seen. Im an absolute beginner and this has taught me so much. Appreciate it! I can't wait for the class I signed up for.
really love this vid, really natural thanks for this
Thank you for the realness. I'm doing my "research" for getting a bike, hopefully next year. This is making me feel better.
Excellent job on the bike training, congratulations Nina!
Awesome video man! I'ma be teaching my wife on my 300 next season and these videos are gonna help her a lot.
been riding for 3-4 years now and i still enjoy watching people learn just because it reminds me of how excited and happy i was when i learned lol
Just bought a rebel 300 abs today. Thank you so much for helping me make my decision and showing me how to start.
That’s so awesome!! So happy for you! Congrats, and ride safe! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Really good!! Fun to relive it.
This video actually convinced me to get a rebel. Very informative. Thank you!
As someone that is literally getting ready to learn how to ride this was EXTREMELY helpful.
Confidence will come! No need to push yourself past what you're comfortable with. Everyone started where you are Nina, so be proud of ANY progress you make no matter how small you may feel it was!
