    I have been trying so hard to get topstitching done correctly for the last week on a neckline! I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve taken out the stitching because it puckered or I pulled the fabric a bit too much and it wasn’t an even line. Oh what a hot mess, lol! But now after watching your video, I think I will be able to do right! First thing is I am changing my foot. Thank you 🦋

    Thank you once again, Olga! As always, your videos and written info is right on time and just when I need it. I have been sewing a few little things this week and trying to get my topstitching completely correct has been a battle. I use my trusty seam ripper with plenty of practice. :) I don't know why I never thought of this method before when I use my Frixion pen so often in my sewing room. And the best part is that the heat from my iron just erases the marks like magic when I'm finished sewing. I will be using your method today and being in my sewing room, even on Easter Sunday, gives me quiet time to be thankful for all my blessings. May you be blessed for always thinking of us and have a wonderful day!

      I'm so happy to hear that the tips I share are hitting the mark when you need them most. I'm glad my method could offer a new approach to topstitching. I'm glad you'll be giving the new technique a try. Sewing can be such a meditative and rewarding way to spend time, even on holidays like Easter. It's a personal retreat to appreciate the craft and the quiet moments. Thank you for your heartfelt message. It means a lot to know that the work I do is helpful to fellow sewing enthusiasts. Have a peaceful day in your sewing room!

    I’m really enjoying this video, and I came here from your video about seam rippers, and the little red ball. I just wanted to know, you have a seam ripper, with no red ball on, with you in this video. Are you just using it to point for our benefit, or do you use it on certain items? I’ve subscribed, as I want to learn more about sewing techniques! 🙂 thanks from 🇬🇧

      I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos and that you've subscribed for more sewing techniques! You have a keen eye; I do have a seam ripper without the red ball with me in the video. These types of seam rippers often come as accessories with sewing machines, and while they're not the best in terms of sharpness, they can still be quite useful. I like to use them as pointers in my videos (because my fingers need a break from the spotlight), they're handy and visible to viewers. So don’t be surprised that my seam ripper has such a dual career. Also, their dullness can be an advantage when I want to unpick just a few threads without the risk of cutting them, allowing me to tie the thread ends securely afterward.
      For a more detailed guide on seam rippers, I invite you to visit my website. There, you'll find a written tutorial that combines all the tips in one place, which can be a great supplement to the more entertaining content on RUclips. What size needle and thread do you use to topstitch?

    • @SewingTutorialsByAgeberry
      @SewingTutorialsByAgeberry  7 месяцев назад

      For topstitching, I generally recommend using a thicker thread, such as a 40 wt, paired with a larger needle, like a 80/12 or 90/14, to accommodate the heavier thread and fabric layers. This combination helps create those beautiful, pronounced stitches that really stand out. However, the best size can vary depending on the weight and type of fabric you're working with, so it's always a good idea to test on a scrap piece first.

    I have a question. I haven't sewn in quite. Rheumatoid arthritis is a thief. I was watching a video on machine embroidery and they were using the darning foot. I started thinking about basting and how machines have a basting stitch that I've never liked because it's not that much bigger than the longest regular stitch. If you are sewing something that you know is going to have to be "fiddled" with ie., my daughter is petite, for her prom they didn't make adult formal wear in a size to fit a 18 yo who is 5ft 1 in and weighs 90 lbs, a health girl who surprisingly looks just like her great grandmother. The dress she HAD TO😭 HAVE or have her life just ruined😉 a size two. I ended up cutting down at least 3 sizes. In a case where you are going to be pinning, basting, pinning, basting, could you just use your darning foot, drop the feed dogs and baste like you would in those cases where you are basting alot for fit or say you have a hem on a VERY full skirt, or whatever you just want to baste? It seems like it would be quicker to change feet, drop dogs than ripping or picking out machine's baste stitch.

      I'm sorry to hear that rheumatoid arthritis has been giving you trouble; it can indeed be a challenge when it comes to sewing. Regarding your question, using a darning foot for basting sounds like an interesting idea. The key here would be to ensure you're comfortable with the free-motion sewing technique, as it requires a steady hand to maintain even basting stitches. But if you're adept at it, this could indeed save you time. Every sewing machine and fabric behaves differently, so it might be worth trying this method out on some scrap material first to see if it works for you and your machine. If you do decide to give free-motion basting a try, take it slow and see how it feels.
