Love that song....thank you Taylor!
This song gets me crying every time because I was 19 when I joined the Marines. I went to Viet Nam right after I turned 20. I was in a Combined Action Program and was in the 3rd CAG (combined action group). The Phu Bai province was near Hue city and our patrols were to proved security for the city and surrounding villages. I could see it in the eyes of the villager's that they hated us and didn't trust us and I knew why. Things were done to the people out of bias. That always went against the grain for me and I never once did anything to the people but good. I gave them my C- Rations when I could and once went through a bunch of kids and they were holding onto my hands and begging and when I left them I noticed my wristwatch was gone. I didn't make a fuss because I understood. I was sometimes harassed by my buddies over my actions with the villagers, but, I didn't care. I can still see dead faces looking up at me and smell the blood and how quickly they decayed. That is a weight you carry for the rest of your life. A special thanks to Taylor Hicks and his Patriotism. We need more like him and Toby Keith.
