    This is the second DIY van build that didn't involve sponsors for every part of it. The other is Foresty Forest. Sponsored builds take forever because they have to get the item in every shot or give detailed instructions. You two are just showings us materials, telling us what you're doing and just doing it. Doesn't seem as daunting when you're not bombarded with technical terms and name brands. I know I appreciate this series a lot!

    10:25 I really appreciated the chaf. It was good fun and a bit of a look behind the scenes. (And I learned a new word for my second language. Always love this!) Breaking the work down to small packages, which can be done in a reasonable time, is one of the most important things in a project. I often thought, well that will be in in an hour, and it took 4 hours. Like a reverse Scotty moment.

  • @josephbarrett365

    Great videos Paul. Little tip in case you have any more Plywood to cut. When you have measured the lines for your plywood cuts, run a Stanley knife down the line to score it. This will help cut the top layer uniformly and will help with less burred edges when using a jigsaw/circular saw. This will then lessen the amount of sanding on the edges required :)

    I’m loving this series so far. Thank you for showing the little mistakes and the bits you need to redo instead of pretending like everything is easy and perfect on the first attempt. And I think it’s great that you’re doing it with what you’ve got instead of a whole workshop and thousands of dollars of tools... it makes it seem so much more realistic and possible for someone like me. Cheers from California!

    Hats off Paul and cuppa Jo. Doing a fantastic job.. Great Times and fun for you both on your travels...

  • @davidglossop5699
    @davidglossop5699 3 года назад +1

    Quick one Paul-I am a joiner by trade, so a quick tip-when using a handsaw if you look at the grip, it has an ambidextrous recess for your index finger to point, as the rest of your fingers grab the handle! It allows far much control over the usage of the saw bud-you can thank me later when you try😃 Keep up the good work👍🏼

    • @davidglossop5699
      @davidglossop5699 3 года назад

      Also Paul, although the framework may seem solid and sound now bud, it really would benefit from gluing at every joint with some PVA glue bud-using screws alone may feel sturdy initially Paul, within six months, the whole structure will collapse bud causing a major headache. PVA will allow the structure to have more strength at the joint, than the actual timber you are joining bud👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    • @PaulMessner
      @PaulMessner  3 года назад +1

      I think before I panel everything I’ll loosen the joints and Bob some wood glue in. Thanks for this.

    • @davidglossop5699
      @davidglossop5699 3 года назад

      @@PaulMessner You are welcome Paul, screws alone will provide a good mechanical fix, but for longevity PVA glue will make the structure as robust as metal bud-it’s easily sorted Paul but I insist you do it!!! Take care👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    • @davidglossop5699
      @davidglossop5699 3 года назад

      The tongue and groove work you are undertaking will be fine, but anything that is load bearing or may be taking any form of stress, then PVA is your friend Paul, the bond has more strength than the timber itself! Good luck, you are doing a great job👍🏼👍🏼
