  • Send the Wind was written by the Durgas in 2006 when Myanmar democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was under house arrest. Following the military coup in February 2021, Suu Kyi was arrested and is currently being detained in an undisclosed location.
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma), AAPPB, has documented the arrest of 25,565 pro-democracy activists and civilians since the coup. aappb.org/
Send the Wind resonates now more than ever as Myanmar faces a human rights and political crisis. An armed uprising between pro-democracy opposition groups aligned with ethnic armies against the illegal junta has resulted in conflict across the country. An estimated 2.8 million people have been internally displaced from conflict in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
Against international law, the Myanmar military is routinely carrying out airstrikes against civilians and civilian targets including schools, churches and hospitals.
In 2024, the Durgas are re-releasing Send the Wind to advocate for the release of all political prisoners and to create a corridor for emergency assistance to displaced refugees in cooperation with ethnic nationalities health organizations and to amplify aspirations for peace in Myanmar.
