      @@thecoderofyoutube that was a good hard tackle that never went past the horizontal and arms were not through the legs. Contact with the head is the main issue today and fair enough. The current interpretations however are a knee jerk reaction and ruining the game.

      @Navigator_Isle 3 года назад +2

      Pause around 0:40 you can compare the distance the players have from the goal post, and clearly Robinson is atleast 12-15 metres closer to the goal post. Now when you measure the circumference between the two players and the distance they would have to run to score near the corner post, it's pretty much even. If it were anyone else, Robinson would've caught them but it was none other than Dougie Howlett.

    @DavidHURST1 the angle's confusing you. Robinson may be 20m away from him to the side, but he's also 20m further back than him, meaning that in the time it would have taken Howlett to run 20m forwards, Robinson should have had time to cover those 20m sideways. Howlett is faster.

    @tennisrulesok We're still going on about this? Howlett has to run a good 60m diagonally, Robinson has to cover about 30-40m, Howlett beats him easily. It's closer than the commentators make it out to be. But he still beats him. Robinson's faster over 10m, Howlett's faster on anything over that.

The corner is in between, meaning the 20m cancel each other out. And looking at it, Howlett doesn't even go all the way to the corner, meaning Robinson has 5m less to run than Howlett, Howlett is also carrying a ball (slowing him down), yet Robinson still doesn't get near him. Pause at 0:40!! GO LOOK AT THE STATS WEBSITE!!!

      @@wonka8656 Eh no. He got destroyed. Howlett has to take a path that is curved to avoid the straight cross field trajectory of Robinson. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line which is largely the way Robinson runs in this against a curved run of Howlett. So they are not covering the same distance. Plus Robinson is explosive over much smaller distances not large ones. Howlett would win this race nearly every time.

    I'd rather have howlett on my team because of the fact that he had the tendency to always be there when you needed an extra man as well as being one of the fastest all Blake's we've ever had he was also quite solid for a winger, and howlett was fast then Robinson but Robinson had better acceleration and was far more agile.

    @jonnyrmsy top try scorer stats are actually pretty irrelevant when you think about it. the top try scorer ever is japanese, would you say he is the greatest wing ever? i havnt ever denied howlett is faster than robinson and a good finisher, but robinson was far more dangerous, creative and adept rugby player

    This guy serious ? Jason Robinson is good, but he's not at the howletts level

      Sarah Schuster Barton I think most people would take Robinson because he offered a greater threat to create something out of nothing. The All Blacks have many great wingers and Howlett was a good player, but there are very many of his own country men who would get picked ahead of him

      Not too many. He'd be one of our very fastest, I think that is what she is referring to.....speed.

    just goes to show how fast Lomu was. commentator here says howlett is 10.68, Jonah was 10.65 and obviously twice howlett's size

    Just saying that refs now would probably blow that up straight away and deem it dangerous.. Do you not think refs are being to soft on the tackle at the moment?

    I think "smoked" or "burned" is the wrong word, he was beaten rather easily but smoked is harsh. Robinson had a much larger distance to cover and started standing still. It is surprising he got as close as he did considering howlett is quicker over that sort of distance and that he was running with momentum before receiving the ball. Despite this Robinson put in a valiant effort but howlett still beat him.

    no he wasnt howlett had more distance to run it showed it on tv

    Howlett is an 11 second sprinter. No way Robinson could catch him in any scenario.

  • @thomascassyy

    @darroth48 He's a fullback. He was already in position at the back and was there before Doug even touched the ball. He also had the angle on Howlett.

    Robinson does have to cover the width of the pitch though...

  • @joshaskew5035

    But Jason Robinson has to run something like 30 meters thurther than howlet on the angle

    @eddyd63 Thats not a very good argument. Players like McCaw were in the All Blacks team that, as per usual, disappointed at that world cup. McCaw, Howlett and others were the best players in their positions at the time. Just becuase they didnt happen to pick up a winners medal after the final doesnt make players such as Jason Robinson better. Also, who was the top try scorer in that world cup? Howlett? Yeah.

    I've seen it. Howlett has to turn around. Watch him catch up at the end. Go on google, you can find all the player stats and what they're like over 100m.

  • @sliverthief
    @sliverthief 14 лет назад

    @duncandohnut1993 Bullshit, just watch both players running on the wide screen angle. Robinson runs way faster than Holwett. He only scores cause Robinson has way more distance to cover as well.

    Doug Howlett burns him up here because Jason Robinson was being weighed down by his heavy gold World cup winners medal and the dvd of his try in that game. Doug Howllett has nice hair though!

  • @standupcomedian02

    Robinson was destroyed in that little test of speed, the fact is doug howlett would smoke him because of the top end speed he has, robinson as you can clearly see had a sharp angle so made him look a lot faster, he was running the width of the feild not length like doug howlett was, robinson was put to the test, and he well lost.

  • @jonnyrmsy

    @eddyd63 Aside from the japanese players, other top try scorers are/were world class obviously. I think its unfair to claim that Robsinson was a much more creative player. That would indicate that Howlett was just standing in the right place at the right time to finish off other players' hard work (Chris Ashton does this well of course), which is by the way a skill in its own right and something that made Howlett such a feared attacking option. Like any good wing he made tries for himself too.
