Angelina is a songwriter's dream! Truly awe inspiring interpretation of both the music and lyrics every time, even when not fully knowing the song yet. Such a genius!
Alan, Alan, Alan . . . Did you just fall in love? Your face showed such compassion for the heartbreak in the words and in Angelina's voice, that I shed tears for you as well. Thank you for sharing it, and thanks for your program
Angelina has a way of conveying emotional integrity that the listener believes she's actually living through the actual singing of the song. It's what Billie Holiday was able to do in order to transport the listener to a time in their own lives when they could personally identify with the words they are hearing. Nothing 'over the top' when Angelina refrains from using her full arsenal of vocals, but the message of the song will still hit home with as much power as if it had. When a true jazz singer like her has the ability to bring a feeling of genuineness, no matter the genre, and can bring to the fore a 'vocal chameleon' ability to conjure up what she feels she's heard and felt personally in the past from other singers renditions that moved her, she simply allows her jazz roots to flow unencumbered for presenting any song she's singing, always accompanied by her uniquely different vocal ingredients that are solely her's, and her's alone. I believe that is why the complexity of her singing will never be able to be covered in a similar satisfying way by any other artist.
Angelina’s performance was absolutely beautiful. She draws us in from the beginning and we have to listen to the end. Angelina’s performance portrayed so much skill and pure emotion. Thank you for another wonderful analysis and I love the way you teach by illustration which is very astute
One take-away from all these episodes is watching some of the best performers in the world (with or without all the backup and production money can buy) being consistently overshadowed by a kid on a couch recorded by a grandmother with a cell phone. There are no words that can adequately express what we are experiencing.
The song is about pretending to have fun, while hiding the true feelings about a heartache. Like a knife that would be turned deep in a wound, but still you just smile. That is exactly what I get from Angelina's interpretation.
I’ve posted numerous comments and opinions about Angelina Jordan‘s talents. Her vocal range, her rasp that draws such emotion, her delivery ability, timing and what a phenomena she is in the music world today. After listening to this song and all the other versions I’ve been leaving something out. Her brain , she’s smart enough to know how to make each song her own.. I will be one of the first to be buying a ticket to one of her concerts.
I find it amazing how great artists don't just open a new door they absolutely send it flying off its hinges and hurl us into that creative space. You are immediately ...lifted into the zone....everything around you for that moment dissolves....and then ....you come back with the awareness of a remarkable...experience. Thank you Alan..for allowing us to witness and enjoy Angelina's incredible talent.
For me, Angelina is the best singer storyteller of my 63 years. Remarkable how she makes me understand the story of a song far better than from listening to others sing the same song. Another enjoyable video. Many thanks Alan.
Just love it! Robyn has a summerhouse maybe 3 km from my home in Heby, Sweden. She was also very talent in her youth. Just 16 when she break thru. Angelina will be a mega star.❤😎🇸🇪
Alan, I prefer Calum Scott’s and Angelina’s renditions of this song. I saw Calum’s “Britain’s Got Talent” performance and was so impressed that I downloaded his version to my play list. Now that I have watched and listened to Angelina’s raw impromptu performance of this song she is, hands down, #1 for me. She does more with less than any other vocalist I know of.
Well done Alan. I can't wait until she feels confident enough in her piano chops to start playing on stage or in the studio. But for now, Rob Christie is doing a great job. I also loved Shelly Berg on Angelina's Christmas Concert.
There's Angelina Jordan and everyone else! Every time! When she covers your song, it becomes her song! Her writing abilities and true artistic nature has no name! Yet that's nothing compared to that unexplainable thing that takes us away emotionally and causes, if not tear's reflection on life and special is not good enough for this World treasure or as I say "Next Level Event" and when I say "She is" it's spiritual! I never sound like this! But when it's her, I don't care!
The soulful tones of her voice combined with a lyrical interpretation beyond even the song writer's imagination create a song which can only be described as Angelina Jordan's version of an already established classic. Alan, you have been presenting to us artists from around the globe so that you can highlight Angelina's take on the same song. It's turned out to be very interesting. I'd like to mention something a recent reactor said about Angelina. He had listened to some recent video's of her and it was suggested he go back to the beginning to see where it all began. So he played the video from NGT which has all 4 songs on it. He is a music coach/instructor/musician and he was blown away when he heard those NGT performances. The point he made was that he was astonished that the way she sings currently, she had already acquired that ability when she was 7 years old. Oh, the voice sounded younger but everything else was already in place. His name is William Hostutler and it is definitely worth a listen.
The comparison with the Bosphorus bridge is very suggestive, Alan, I fully agree with it. This is one of those covers where I find that the difference in personality in the interpretation of Angelina (in a simple rehearsal) with that of the other singers is impressive, but isn't unusual. 💛 🧡 ❤️
@@lydiabentley3413 yes, different worlds and different interpretations that are all put in communication by that wonderful natural bridge that is Angelina, a channel that allows you to merge while respecting the origin.
hi Alan i would like you to listen to Lyca Gairanod a kid from the Phillipines Who sang that song on her Country the voice Show a little girl unbeliveable - greetings from Germany and of course Angelina sang it in her unique stile and i wish she do the song on her upcoming album cheers
Well done Alan! The other singers sing the song, Angelina goes into the song and draws me in as well. She's exceptional and I love the casual setting at home. She's just practicing in her corner, that makes it even more amazing for me.
Thank you Alan for another great show with Angelina. Beautiful song and all the artists did a wonderful job, Angelina's personal rendition gave me chills....that's the difference.
It never ceases to amaze me in the research you do to put together one of these compilations. Another fantastic job. As always when I hear a practice/rehearsal version of a song by Angelina, I hold out hope that there will be a studio version someday. Thank you for all you do. I always hope that she is aware of you and you will someday meet her.
Nice job! The only bad thing is that I had to listen to those average voices until almost the end of the video, and then reach to the point that a real singer comes along and deliver music (and emotion) to a not so good song. But hey, She made an average song sound much better! And that’s the truth!
Hi Alan, congratulatios on a wonderful channel, I too have been studying AnngelinaJ with fascination for years. I would like to draw your attention to a clip I stumbled across last week. It is the Norwegian Armed forces Brass band with Angelina Jordan at 12 yrs old singing It' a Man's World. There is a better sounding recording at the jazz festival that year but no video. Of course she is an absolute knockout, if you haven't seen it I know you will like it. Stephanie Moon(Australia)
Ah yes, Alan, perhaps you did rig the game a bit, not using his BGT audition. Angelina is not Calum. And Calum is not Angelina. He is he, and She is she. What a wonderful world where we may have both!
Hi Alan. Danilo again. Sorry to keep pestering you. Given that Angelina is on a higher level and not to be compared with anyone else, I must say that of all of the versions you've put in the video the one I liked less was the original one by Robin. I liked very much Callum's. I first saw him on BGT. Looking forward to meet you in Kongsberg.
I like that bridge analogy a lot. In the music what you hope for is a cultural bridge not a tether to a single identity but a bigger world and a way to transcend the tiny postage stamp beginnings many of us sprang from. Nice one, Alan.❤
I think this is a first for me, Alan. I think this is the first time I've ever not really liked at least one version of a song you've looked at. Even Angelina's! It's true that millions of people will disagree with me, but I just don't really like the song. One thing I think is that, if Angelina were to do a proper studio version, she might change my mind. Thanks for the video.
I agree with you in some ways, but understand that this is her setting at home just playing around reading the lyrics and playing the keyboard. It was not a production for consumers to see. This is her with her family. Just a bunch of angles looking on and probably Mother, Sister and Grandma.

Cullum Scott's take on the song is great. Angelina is so masterful.
As usual I prefer the last one, Angelina. What a voice!
Fun fact, Rolling Stones Magazine has this as the #1 song of the 2010 decade
Good to know
It seems to me that the others sing the song, but Angelina feels the song.
Absolutely agree

Intimate, vulnerable, raw, heartfelt and beautiful. That's why we 💘 Angelina!

Angelina was only 9 here. I might listen to these others if they came on the radio, but only because I know the song from Angelina singing it.
The words just hit harder with Angelina i feel ❤

I’m looking forward when Angelina’s music will also have her in the 10s of Millions views.
I agree as Angelina deserves it
She’s definitely one of the top 5 voices I’ve ever heard.

Callum Scotts' BGT audition has always been my absolute favourite so emotional, certainly not improved by his recorded version.
