    I regularly use the Tecsun S2000 which is the exact same radio. BNC connected to a MLA30+ antenna which is a wonderful pairing. Shortwave has never sounded so good. This radio has just enough signal control (RF gain + antenna sensitivity) to optimize signal reception. This unit is only dual conversion but it performs very well. SSB is very stable. Love it!!!!

    You are right about the manual. If not for these videos a person could get confused. I've had my 750 a few days now and depend on these videos. I watched them before I made my purchase so I was familiar with the controls. Like you I like my radio a lot.

    Greatly enjoy the videos. My new Tecsun S 2000 arrived this morning and so far I am very pleased. Have only used the internal antenna but waiting for a PL 259 to BNC adapter to arrive and then I will connect to my Wellbrook 1530 antenna. Going to set this up properly, elevated and with a rotator as I have just had it on the floor in the house up to now. Look forward to the next video.

    I really like the 750 when it comes to straight forward DX listening, sometimes I like to just sit back and listen and not have to worry about TX power supplies, band limits, ect. Out of all the higher end I think the 750 is on of my favorites. the 2010 is great but not built for band surfing, the 800 is great but just huge and the Eton E1XM/900 was just too much stuff packed in a funky box, it took pleasure out of listening. and while in Iraq it's rubberized finish turn sticky... not cool in a dust bowl. the 750 is just right. 73 all

      Thanks Tom, so far so good. It is really pulling in SW signals very well tonight. FM is stellar AM not so much. Air band is as good as any other SW radio I have and better than most. For air I use my scanners anyway, usually my Uniden BCD-396XT. One question, while tuning with your finger on the tuning knob quickly does the knob look as if it's wobbling? Mine does but the knob seems like it's on all the way and tight. Is this just an optical illusion? I would like to see you make a video of this if so. Thanks for your time Tom. Hope I'm not being a pest it's just great having people to share this hobby with.

      Royal Howard No problem. Yes, if you look closely at the tuning knob while tuning it does appear out of round. All 750's have this some people have replaced the knob.

    • @royalhoward2882
      @royalhoward2882 9 лет назад

      Thanks, I kinda remember my old 750 doing the same thing but had to see if yours did as well. It is strange because looking at it right now, not touching or tuning, it is dead center in the hole. I have the S350DL (wobbly knob) but never fell off yet in over 5 years. Skipped on the 450 to many bad reviews. And just recently picked up the eton field radio 550 great knob no wobble. I love the 750 more than all my radios currently. And by the way I notice the soft mute more on my TECSUN PL-880 now. The 750 is such a pleasure to tune with compared to the 880. Geez, and you think you ramble on Tom, sorry for this long reply, but I'm excited again like a kid with a new toy. All the very best to you and yours and have a great evening.
      Royal.

    • @hamrad88
      @hamrad88  9 лет назад

      Royal Howard No problem on rambling. I enjoy interfacing with my viewers. I have the 350, 450 and 750 and the wobble seemed to be less in the newer radios. I have have never had one fall off either. I typically use the keypad to get into the area I want to scan while searching for new stations then use the knob to slowly tune from there. So I do not notice the wobble very much. It is only noticeably when I do fast tuning up and down the band while searching.

    Noticed you mentioned the warranty. Although I own the 750 and love it..this comment concerns my S450DLX. The volume pot died leaving me with almost no volume at highest setting. Even though I no longer had the receipt, and the radio was several years old, which I informed Eaton of, they gave me a Return Authorization number, and decided to replace my radio with a brand new one! I did have to pay to ship it to them, but I think that's only fair, and in my opinion, money well spent..about $13.75 for flat rate priority mail through USPS! I'd say that's fantastic customer relations for a 10 year old radio with no proof of purchase! So..by all means..if you experience a problem with your 750, or any Grundig radio..contact Eaton! In my opinion..no better customer service anywhere! Just my 2 cents!

    Getting one from Amazon tomorrow! Yeah! (3/31/2021). The one Iḿ getting is called the Eton Elite 750. I have heard the Grundig version like you have is the original version and possibly the best version. Thatś's okay if it is. I have a Grundig Satellite 700 which I purchased new in the late 1990s and it is excellent! I also have an Icom R 75 receiver which is incredible.

    Tom - I gotta tell you, as of now you are the only communication station I watch. I have the Hammarlund HQ-129x with the add on Heathkit Q Multiplier Model QF-1 out of Benton Harbor, Michigan. It is in pristine condition with the exception that it petered out on me after maybe five
    months of monitoring. I also have the Hammarlund HQ-140X which also does not work. At one time I had these units connected to an A/D sloper antenna 35.3" high and the pieces and what I hear we're a thing of beauty.
    I also have a modified DX-394 that truly surprised me along with the DX-398 modded out by the fella before.C.Crane took it over....I think his last name was Justice. I have an extra box of tubes (all working) for the 129 that are "military grade" tubes.....whatever that would mean. I have all the original books and manuals to show how to properly align these pieces to perfection.
    I live in the Cincinnati area and been watching your stations is giving me back "the itch." Would you happen to know anyone in SW.Ohio or Northern.Ky. that could brings these Hammar's back to life? It has been close to fifteen years and I sure miss hearing them. Thanks for your channel and all that you contribute.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍

    BFO needs to be centered and you are correct about the other two. BFO only comes in to play when you are using SSB.
    To pull the antenna out safely, grab each lower extension as you pull it out. That way you are pulling on the strongest link as you go. Only pull on the top section until the next section is revealed and so on down to the last two. If needed I can do a short video showing the process.

    I need your help please: My new Eton Satellite 750 was delivered yesterday. And while the larger information display is illuminated from each side, I have a hard time seeing the lighting variance that I notice on your Grundig-it actually looks very even, so I’m okay with mine. However, my question deals with the illumination of the signal strength display. It appears that you have two diodes lighting that display, one on each side. Looking at mine, it appears that I also have two diodes, but only the one on the left actually works-so it’s quite dark. My question: Can you please confirm whether there should be one or two diodes illuminating the signal strength meter? Thank you for any help you can provide!

      I’ve initiated an exchange through Amazon...the new unit should arrive on Sunday. After learning that Eton quality control suffered compare to when Grundig made these radios, I knew that I was taking a chance buying one. Hopefully, the replacement won’t have the same issue. If it does in fact suffer similar issues, or other issues, can you please recommend a competing table top model, even if a few dollars more? Thanks again!

    • @hamrad88
      @hamrad88  3 года назад +2

      @@dannymcneal Sorry to hear you are having problems. You are correct, all radios from China (and most are from China) have quality control problems. You were smart to order from Amazon with their great return policy. As far as a different brand of TABLE radio, there are none that I would recommend unless you go really high (>$1000) and get something like an ICOM IC-7300. Another option is get a used Grundig but that can turn into a mess. I was lucky I got my Grundig 800 from a local person so I was able to test it first. I hope that the replacement Eton will be good. Good luck and have a great day.

      @@hamrad88 - I just pulled the new Eton 750 out of the box and hooked it up. Same issue-the signal strength meter shows only one illuminated diode-the one on the left side. Is it possible that these new Eton radios actually have only one illuminating diode? While I guess that’s possible, it doesn’t make sense, because that little window is already dark as it is, and it really needs two diodes. Perhaps that changed when Eton started making them? Can you please check with any of your amateur radio buddies to see if they know? Thanks! I posed this question to Eton last week, but have not heard back. Thanks again for any help!

    I had a 750 for a while and I thought it was a great radio until I got a good SDR. The SDR I got was less than 1/2 the price and it was about this time I understood what a bad deal the 750 was. In performance it does not exceed a PL880 which is far more portable and can be thrown in a suitcase. So I am at a loss to figure out what niche the 750 serves. If you are looking at a 750 you need to figure that out. If you have a good computer, an SDR is the way to go as you can see and hear the stations you hunt. Its a whole new level of DXing that will amaze you too.

      @@hamrad88 Ok, I finally got it , (Eton Elite 750) Saturday ! Got it set up with a 30 ft longwire that runs outdoors@ 3 stories up ...Sounds and performs great so far. Sensitivity is high, and it's picking up SW signals as far away as Asia, Africa, pirate stations, SSB hams etc. I really like the look, feel , and design of it ....Only nitpicks I have is the BFO knob requires much patience, and precision when trying to get weak SSB transmissions, but once it's dialed in its good. The Airband doesnt appear to compatible with the squelch that works on other bands....but as a whole, this is a rich sounding, solid, quality made radio. An Eton Rep I spoke with said they have made numerous quality improvements over the past couple years. They tweaked the 750 again in Sept ,2020. On the back of it , it now says Designed and Developed by Eton, Palo Alto , California . According to their support rep, only the cabinet, front end layout design and some internal hardware are carried over from the Grundig 750, and that Eton has reworked and made improvents on it's inner electronics , but didn't go into further detail.

    Hi Tom. Given your (and others) reviews, the Tecsun 660 looks very good - for its price. Is it worth spending the extra money on the Grundig 750 or is the difference in performance marginal enough as not to matter? I want a good entry level receiver.
    Your channel is excellent btw - very comprehensive, well done.

    • @hamrad88
      @hamrad88  8 лет назад

      As far a reception they are nearly equal but there are many other differences. For instance, 660 is definitely portable where the 750 is not so much. The sound of the bigger 750 is better (to my ears). Big tuning knob on 750 is preferred by me. The 660 has more special features which you may or may not use like the two different auto search methods that the 660 has. This is just of few of the difference.

I want a radio ( I welcome suggestions), that can pick up radio stations or people talking from around the world, what am I needing??

    • @hamrad88
      @hamrad88  3 года назад

      There are at least two key things needed. An external antenna. The built-in telescopic antennas on these radios are way too short especially for shortwave which you will hear stations 1000s of miles away. Second, shortwave listening right now it poor due to the solar activity which will be improving this year. As far as AM or MW, again the built-in antenna in this radio is too short. Also, on AM or MW you can only expect to receive stations 100s of miles away not 1000s except in rare occasions. So there are ways to improve the reception on This radio. Just take a look at some of my other shows and have a great day.

    Hello and thanks for video. I have the Tecsun S2000 which is the same I think as the Grundig Satellit 7500. Regarding the airband, I have found that I can plug my scanner discone antenna into the FM 50 Ohm external antenna input and receive airband without the use of the telescopic antenna, I don't understand how?. Regarding tilting the radio I have made a 3 ply effort in the shape of a zigzag which the radio sits easily.

    Any idea how to set the alarms so the radio plays a station, instead of white noise? I actually bought one recently from amazon and it's already packed up to get back. When I have the alarm set, for music, instead of playing a station, it plays white noise and of course, the radio instructions only tell you how to set the time and which type of alarm you want. • @hamrad88
      @hamrad88  8 лет назад

      +2000SkyView Reception on my 505 using the telescopic antenna is poor and therefore there appears to be less noise. The 750 is very sensitive and therefore there appears to be more noise. Both radios work great with external antennas.

      +hamrad88 thanks for the reply. Interesting, I'm finding sometimes my 750 performs better and sometimes my 505 does. The noise I get on my 750 sometimes is very irritating for me to listen, I have to shut it off when this happens. gives me a headache -- It is Interesting that the 505 is better when this happens. However, the 505 is not always better, sometimes the 505 reception is horrible, interesting that the 750 then performs well and without the irritating noise. The conditions allow the 750 to perform better than the 505 most of the time so far... Not sure why... I know nothing about radio signals. Thanks for the channel.

    • @hamrad88
      @hamrad88  8 лет назад

      +2000SkyView I am guessing the noise on the 750 is probably some local noise and because the 750 is so sensitive it amplifies the noise.

    • @2000SkyView
      @2000SkyView 8 лет назад

      I think you might be correct. I have more than one AM transmitter within 25 miles, and sometimes one of the AM stations even has noise, other times it is very clean.
      I did pick up my first ham operators last night on the 750, very nice and clear, the 505 pickup almost nothing, definitely not enough to understand what was being said. Sensitivity of the 750 was nice to have.
