Private schools - that’s direct hiring. Public schools only hire English teachers.

Thanks for your sharing! As a Taiwanese, I'm trying to find more SEA RUclipsrs who live or work in Taiwan.
I agree with you, some Taiwanese may have biases on the SEA people. It could be worse when hiring an English teacher. Many Taiwanese look up to Western people, or more precisely, the white people, just like most of our East Asian neighbours. So, I heard some stories said that even an American born Asian who is surely a native speaker, could lose an English teacher hiring competition against a European whose mother tough might not English, just for the reason that European is a Caucasian.
However, I believe that the SEA people will be a crucial part of Taiwanese society in the near future. First, the Taiwanese population ageing rapidly. Taiwan must welcome more and more SEA talents for helping us. Secondly, Taiwanese can't speak good English and SEA languages. Taiwan is trying to develop itself as a regional hub, just like Hong Kong or Singapore. But most Taiwanese can't speak foreign languages well, I think this is what SEA bilingual talents can help out with. Lastly, there have been more and more SEA people who immigrated to Taiwan, either for the reason of marriage or working. Therefore, Taiwan must understand SEA countries much more, not just for economic development, but also for cultural and social reasons.
As time goes on, it seems to me that the Taiwanese have become more open-minded and tried to embrace the new culture. The speed of such progress is never fast enough. Nonetheless, I believe the situation will become only better and better while Taiwan has more interactions with the SEA countries.
It's never easy for any society to accept foreign workers or immigrants, just as what we've seen in the States or Europe. But I would say, it is even harder for any person who decided d to work or live overseas. Thanks for your help here in Taiwan and wish you an even better future with us :)
