- Tiger almost lost her life because the Good Samaritan who tried to help her used tea tree oil which is toxic for dogs and cats. Luckily, Katie McKittrick responded to the call quickly, rushed Tiger to the amazing team at CARES, and the life-saving effort began!

I never heard of “Tea Tree Oil”. I’m glad I know about oil. I’ll not harm animals with Tea Tree Oil. Tiger is survived and 2nd chance again!
Not so, I've used tea tree oil on MANY cats, none have had ANY bad reaction whatsoever, or gotten sick. That's on grown cats, but I wouldn't use it on kittens ever, and I have been taking care of cats for 10 years, injuries and all! I have a feral cat colony. The tea tree oil however is not difrectly from the bottle, it is mixed with something that makes it less strong, and more like a balm.
many, if not all essential oils are too potent or toxic for animals and/or humans and should be used with caution or not at all. teatree is just one.

I'm so glad they were able to save little Tiger. I hope this serves as a reminder to anyone - please research anything you feed to or treat your animal with beforehand. Many things that seem harmless can actually be lethal. Animals count on us to be informed! ❤️

There should not even be a need for people to rescue , repair, rehabilitate and rehome animals in these situations created by lazy, ignorant cruel people.

My childhood cat was also a ginger named Tiger. Except he was a cantankerous old man that would only cuddle when he felt like it. Lol. I have a scar on my upper right arm from him. He disappeared when he was around 9 yrs old and I never found out what happened to him. For years after I’d sometimes feel a cat walking up my my bed and settling in next to my hip. Just like he used to do. Freaked me out the first few times but then I accepted it and it brought me so much comfort. He hasn’t been ‘visiting’ for many years now and tbh I miss it.
i had a sweet kitteh named spike who used to visit me long after his death. i would feel him jump up on the bed too. it did give me comfort also for a long time. i still miss him.
@@karenjones1897 For me it was a pigeon I rescued back in 2001. I lost him _way_ to soon, as he died in January, 2006. I adored him, he changed my whole life, and I STILL grieve (I'm beginning to mourn even as I write this). Near the end of 2006, we moved to a rural area where I set up a loft/aviary so I could continue rescuing pigeons in Mr. Hu's honor (there are sooooo many hawks and owls here, I want to keep my little guys safe in an aviary).
One day, I saw a pigeon outside the aviary on the lower part of my roof, near the rain gutter. I glanced, looked away, and then thought, "Wait! None of my guys are out!" I looked back, but the pigeon was gone. My glancing at the bird, looking away, realizing no one was outside the aviary and then looking back was literally a split second -- .5 of a second literally -- yet he was gone; it was impossibly fast for the bird to take off. Plus, pigeons are *loud* because they have the largest muscle attachments between wings and keel bone relative to their size, and thus are among the strongest, fasted fliers in _level_ flight on the planet (clocked at 70+ mph!) There is NO way I wouldn't have heard him take off -- I wasn't ten feet away from him. And, JFYI, they don't _take off_ doing 70, but they DO take off with a "Boom"! Yet, he was gone _silently_ as if he'd never been there.
I never saw his face (pigeon fanciers will verify this: pigeons have individual faces; if you know your birds well, you _can_ recognize them by their faces! (I know, I know, laugh if you want, _but its true_ !) Did you, Ms. Jones and Ms. Aus, notice you never _saw_ your cats? Its been my experience that we never _see_ them, or at least we aren't permitted to see their faces. I've had vivid dreams -- so has my spouse -- of seeing beloved, deceased pets, and we both discovered that _neither_ of us ever _sees_ them in our dreams. We _feel_ them; we _know_ its them -- but we don't actually _see_ them! We concluded that the Lord doesn't permit that for some reason. That I didn't _see_ his face -- though I really should have -- is how I knew it was my most beloved bird, the first one I ever rescued. I was so pleased and thrilled, "Thank you for dropping by to see the new home and check on us all, Mr. Hu!" Oh, gosh, how I miss him . . .
Maybe writing about him here will prompt another visit from him. ❤️

@@taits1093 It was an esophagostomy tube (aka a 'feeding tube'.) An esophagostomy tube is a small rubber tube that enters the esophagus through a surgical incision on the side of the neck. This allows food to be placed directly into the esophagus (the muscular tube that transports food from the mouth to the stomach) so that it can flow down into the stomach, by-passing the mouth and pharynx (the back of the throat). The feeding tube is not placed directly into the stomach.
An esophagostomy tube is used in cats that have jaw fractures or other mouth injuries that prevent normal or adequate eating, or in cats with diseases that have anorexia as a symptom. Also used for cats that have recently had major surgery and are going to be "out of it" for awhile, during which time they wouldn't be able to eat on their own, so the feeding tube is inserted to give them nourishment while they recover. 🙂🌼
The lady at the beginning did what she could and sought help when she didn't know what else to do. Bless her. This precious baby is alive because of her actions.

All essential oils are toxic to cats and a lot are toxic to dogs.
@@refinnej5302 True! Even diffusing essential oils in your house leaves particles that eventually fall on the floors that pets walk and sleep on. Cats livers can’t process any essentials, and it builds up in the organ, plus it damages their lungs.
Many things that humans can just take without supervision are highly toxic to cats and dogs. *Never* give your pet any medication without consulting a vet first, something as "harmless" as Paracetamol (painkiller) can kill your pet.
Thank you for the rescue and sharing about tea tree oil and that it is in Tiger Balm. A few years ago I saw a kitten motionless by the side of the road near work. As I approached it ran into the bushes. I got it later at lunch time. I got it to the vet later that afternoon..didn't realize it was so injured and it had bitten me so I had to see about my hand. It had 2 breaks in places where the leg could not be saved. I paid for the xray. Then the vet said their charitable group would fund the surgery and adopt it out if I relinquished it. That was great because I could not afford the surgery.
You are a star! I would have done the same. Thankfully in England where I live there aren’t many strays and there are networks to trace lost and found cats.

I'm not a cat person but I can cry just as easily when they are hurt as I do with dogs. Pain is not limited to just cats or dogs or any other animals. They ALL feel pain. I want people to love and take care of their pets regardless of which ones they are. They all deserve that!

When you want to be a good samaritan it is wise to get the information first before you use any remedies, so many drugs including natural are dangerous to animals, a quick google search before you do anything or even a call to a vet's office to ask a quick question will save lives. Good intentions can have bad outcomes, thankfully Hope For Paws was able to get there in time and save this baby's life. Thanks for all you do Hope For Paws!

Someone put BenGay on it the toe to bring relief But it turned out she had a bad infection in the toe and the stuff that brings warmth is NOT recommended on an infected area. ! She was hospitalized and narrowly avoided amputation.
