    Considering how unhinged X-23 was, I can totally see the story playing out as Naboo described... That's the thing about not having original ideas when creating what SHOULD be an epic installment... it's going to be a mash-up of favourite movie moments, with little else to offer. I hope im wrong, but I have a bad feeling about this...

    12:13 I've worked with people that have hired "influencers". The influencers willingly sign that agreement for cash & benefits. Then they will 90% of the time say really good things so they get invited back again.

    • @JoRoq1
      @JoRoq1 Месяц назад +3

      That is how it works, especially with Disney. Clownfish TV has shared several stories from when they ran a Disney blog and were part of the Disney media outreach. Disney provides the talking points they want everyone to use, and any deviation (no matter how true and appropriate to the subject of discussion) can result in not being invited back for the next media event. Specifically, they have a story about Disney being upset that in a review of a new section focused on young children that opened in WDW, Kneon commented that there were not enough shade areas to provide relief from a sunny summer Florida day. Kneon was blacklisted from that point, yet at the same time Disney soon installed shade covers in that new section.

      @@JoRoq1 while the people I worked with didn't go that far, they did have a contract with with them that allowed the company to allow the influencers' review to end up in a waste can if they didn't like it. And then the unspoken rule that they won't be asked back or probably asked by other companies because word gets around.
      Influencers are really just a TOOL of the bigger players. They play by the Big Boys' rules or they don't get invited to play at all.
      SOUTH PARK's "Adults Only Special" is really about all this kinda stuff.
      Their writing team is so damn clever.

    • @CantankerousDave
      @CantankerousDave Месяц назад +1

    Hey Thor what do you think of this way of going about making StarWars Content.
    "There were two reasons I wanted to set it in that particular time period and that far away from the prequels. One, I didn't want to mess with any canon. The other thing that I loved about this period was the lack of legacy characters. I was too nervous to take them on, but also, I feel like we've seen a lot of that. The High Republic] felt like a sandbox that I could easily jump into.

    A story about a young woman struggling to be respected and taken seriously in an organization where just because your a man you get underserved rank respect would be very compelling and no doubt reflect many people’s real life experience. The problem is they’re breaking cannon to do it. Jedi have never been known to discriminate based on gender, species, or anything else really. Assuming the actor’s view of the show’s narrative is accurate, this is bad writing (but don’t blame her, she didn’t write it).

  • @raiderlove5923
    @raiderlove5923 Месяц назад +2

    I'm just cautiously hoping it will be a good show. Still not keen on viewing the Jedi as "the wrong side" or looking at the Sith as "forgivable".

    • @JoRoq1
      @JoRoq1 Месяц назад +1

      Presenting the Jedi as “wrong” would work if the story is properly framed from a given character’s “certain point of view”. But to do that there has to be skilled writing with balanced character development and nuance.
      Given that most of the Star Wars and Marvel live-action series on D+ demonstrate a distinct lack of nuance, having all the subtlety of swinging a 2x4, I doubt we will see anything different in The Acolyte.

  • @originaldarkwater

    Why is Naboo assuming there is a one-to-one correlation of Masters to Padawans and a Padawan would feel jealous of a Padawan coming after them? Just because Obi-Wan and Anakin continued to work together doesn't mean that everyone does that, or that every Master only ever has one Padawan. If a Master is particularly good at teaching others to use the Force, why wouldn't he take on another Padawan after his previous one had been raised to knighthood? Why wouldn't he take on 2 or 3 Padawan's at a time? I don't think there's any indication that a former Padawan would feel any animosity towards someone who became a Padawan to their former Master. Think of Yoda. Do you really think he didn't have any Padawans before Dooku? If he didn't, why did he wait so long before taking one? When he's talking to Ben in ESB about whether or not Luke should be trained, it sounds more like he's trained many, many Jedi Knights in his time. That makes a lot more sense.

    Hey Thor, I think that your regular viewers, and I'm one of them, do count you among the few SW youtubers who possess and show integrity consistently. We know you're a real long-time fan, like us. Our breed does not hate for hate's sake, unless we're momentarily caught up in a memberberries moment, but we usually regain our composure rather quickly, and focus on story and characters, and yes, lore, because what The Maker recently said about "getting" the Force rings so true. Sadly, Disney Lucasfilm seem to be fine with reinventing lore, how the Force works, whatever they want to streamline and simplify...which makes it bland/samey as anything else, like MCU. I shudder to think what goes on in their "Jedi School". But - I truly hope I'm wrong, and The Acolyte turns out to be good. KK and crew should thank their lucky stars that there are those like us who hang around beyond what many fans consider the bitter end, but we love OT PT SW so much, we can't help ourselves. A new hope springs eternal....but I still have a bad feeling about this.

    With all the different species that can be Jedi, they can't afford to be ageist. In the prequels, we clearly see that Anakin is expecting to be granted the rank of Master because of his abilities, not because of his age. So a Jedi that became a Knight just because he was old enough, while a younger, more able Jedi of a different species, even, is held back is complete and utter nonsense. Given all the different species and varying ability levels in Force users, they could never function like that. Just further proof that the likes of KK, the story group and Headland can only understand Star Wars as some kind of analogy to real life and lack the imagination to see it as an independent universe.

    Thor should be a reviewer but that'll never happen. All Disney/Lucasfilm (and, to be fair, pretty much any other entertainment company) wants is people who talk about how great the latest movie or show is. They don't even need to know much of anything about what they are promoting; the company will tell them what to say.
