The thing I like about cities is that it has so many high quality content creators that even after browsing for ages, I can still stumble onto a new guy who's producing absolutely top tier content. Great tutorial.
Totally agree. I wouldn't suggest that there are 'so many', but the most prominent and popular ones, to me, seem to be of a pretty high quality. Importantly, they're genuinely good communicators, no doubt helped by the fact they seem intelligent and honest. Unlike many games that attract the "Make $xxx million in one hour" 'content'-creators other games suffer, the general quality of the most passionate and informed that create videos like this give genuine honest advice and always back up their tips and information with videos that clearly demonstrate how affect their advice is. Yeah, in short, you're absolutely right. From experience, I've a feeling that the less popular and mainstream a game is the higher the quality of the content creators.
Definitely made me think a lot more about the immediate financials rather than getting wild til I make it. I'm bad about building schools too early. I'm bad about committing to the one way madness to start my city. The ease in which you grew your city was unreal. And it was organic.
I'm not sure about never going over 100% of budgets. Here's a quote from the wiki: "At 50%, services will operate at only 25% effect, and at 150%, services will operate at 125% effect. In general, services should be running as close to 100% as possible." So I don't mind going over to 110 or 125%, when I then add facilities I can drop it to around 85% which keeps the overall loss at a minimum. Enjoying this tutorial very much! Great content!
I might have bit off more than I can chew because that's going to take an extremely long time. I'll see if I can do some series without commentary so I could pump out more videos faster.
I have been playing cities for a year now, and I can say that I don't have any direction, many times that I do not know what I'm doing. Tried to copy content creators but I was not satisfied on how they explain things, until I saw your content. I think you have the most realistic, original and orderly tutorial in the game, especially for guys like me who cannot use mods. Thank you man.
Thank you for this video, Captain. I've watched a number of "How to Start Your City" videos and tutorials, which have been informative, but felt lacking in creativity. I love that you've adopted a more European/organic layout with the roads, rather than the typical US grid layout. Happy to have subscribed and look forward to watching more of your Cities:Skylines content.
Your tutorials are among the best on RUclips! I have come back to this series so often to compare my milestones and to remind myself not to spend so fast and wait for the upcoming stuff I want to do. You have really opened my eyes to planning the end and finding out how to get there

Underground electricity cables (or electric streets). But even without, this is just a great game, a city builder that actually allows you to built.... Citys. It may be even harder with no mods, but who said city planning is easy ...^^
@@BadDayLp Absolutely true it's not easy. You have actually mentioned a mod I would like, I have always wanted to be able to change ticket prices. I am looking for that right away thank you.
The vanilla traffic lights which actually worsen traffic more often than not, the absurd vanilla lane arrow logic and having to create weird ass ditches to underworld in order to make overpasses will be keeping me away from vanilla.
I've watched a bunch of city starter videos and this is definitely the best. You talk about things I didn't know like smart budgeting, zoning on different sides of the road and how to expand gradually . Thanks a bunch!
AMAZING. Fantastic job. The right side drive and where to zone tip BLEW my mind. How come after 2 years of playing I just head that? LOL - Traffic 95% is mind blowing, this is the kind of tutorial I want. I am traffic obsessed for some reason.
