    This popped up in my notifications, and OF COURSE I had to watch it all the way through. This little munchkin is almost a twin to my granddaughter, and it was helpful seeing the colors used in this portrait. I’m still working at it, and this was incredibly helpful!

    If I'd of laid down those washes that had hard edges and looked choppy, I probably would have called it a failure and stopped. But you Christine, don't doubt yourself, you know you are a sculpture of watercolor and just keep softening, adding and taking away until you have another perfect painting. Keep them coming. I am learning so much. At one point you say you put down "partially Brown Madder," what do you mean by that?

    • @chkarron
      @chkarron  7 лет назад +6

      Thanks so much Candeekissez :) 'partially brown madder' - I mean on parts of face I want it to be more reddish, makes it look more alive/young/healthy.

    What a beautifull demonstration of the wonderfull possibilities of painting with water colour. Very inspiring and informative with the helpfull short written info during the process and I truly admired your very precise and at the same time painterly and sensitive way of using the flat brush for all the underpainting and later the pointed brush. Beautifull work

    Hello! I really enjoyed your tutorial. But could you tell me what you meant by "now the ugly stage begins"? You mentioned it when you started the eyes. I am always attracted to eyes, the most beautiful part of the face.

    • @chkarron
      @chkarron  7 лет назад +6

      Thank you! There is always a moment, while painting, usually in the middle somewhere, where you have put down enough paint to recognize the subject, but there is still important details to add and parts to work on, and this is the moment where you think you might ruined the painting and want to give up, because it is only half way done and looks 'ugly'. Hope that makes sense :)

    Your painting is beautiful! I've always had a problem when it comes to water paints which sounds stupid I know but watching you is teaching me Alot. If I could ask for anything if would be more information regarding what colours your using and when. What you use to blot up the paint ie tissue etc. Also what size/shape brushes your using and when. It would be nice if maybe you talked through the video while painting to inform us more. The little write ups across the bottom are helpful but they do tend to take your eye off what your actually doing to read. I must subscribe to your page as your work is outstanding. I can't wait to see what else you paint, ie animals, gardens, landscapes etc. This is the first video of yours I've seen so I'm off to do more watching, a lot more 😉

    I think water color painting is a difficult subject. Whenever, I try, the colors get dry and creates a sharp edge. Also if I make a mistake with a dark color, it is impossible to revive. Can you please suggest me what to do in such a case?

    What a beautiful experience watching you paint this portrait. I learned so much to help me as I try o paint a watercolor portrait. What do you use to draw the initial rendering. With anything I try, I seem to lose the lines and end up getting into a really ugly stage.😕 I will be watching this and your other videos repeatedly. I really appreciate you showing what pigment you are using at antivenin momen. Thank you.

    • @chkarron
      @chkarron  7 лет назад

      Thank you, Irma! I use regular HB mechanical pencil. I guess the trick is that you draw the pencil lines stronger in the areas you want to paint darker later and very lightly where you plan to have you highlights. But yes, you can't draw everything with pencil - the pencil sketch should be just a rough idea of the composition of your subject. The actual portrait painting should be done in watercolour, and that's the difficult part. A good exercise is to leave the pencil sketch away and just work with watercolour, right from the beginning. Here is a video I am showing how to start the sketch with watercolour: ruclips.net/video/RXTJ4cPZhVM/видео.html
