    In this video I show you how to fix your LG TV that flickers, it will go on and then off every few seconds. This is a known problem for LG TV's even though they are only a couple years old, what will go bad are the LED lights or it could be your power supply or both. Thanks for watching.

    I just love finding flat panels by the curb. I’ll scoop em up even if they’ve been rained on. Most people won’t know/care to troubleshoot so it’s more fun for me! And even if I can’t get the thing to work, the good boards can go for a premium online.
    Currently going thru this flashing thing with one I picked up today.

    got the same tv and same problem, you did a superb job explaining everything. I was very comfortable being able to take it apart without damaging anything just didn’t know the basics of how it works, what to look for , or where to test it using a multi volt tester. Probably going to buy a new bigger(of course😂) tv but I will definitely take the old one apart find out what it needs and determine if it’s worth ordering parts $$ for. Thanks again knowledge is power!👍 📺🇨🇦

    Just had my 55 inch lg do this. I simply bit the bullet and bought a new one. I accidentally bought a 65 inch thinking that it was a direct replacement for the old tv. What a happy mistake to make! Remember back when your grandparent's old console TVs never wore out? Old Zeniths, and Admiral, and RCA brands, they just soldiered on for years with no issues. Of course if you were between the ages of 6-15, you were designated channel changer, volume controller, and sometimes broadcast signal technician with rabbit ears, vertical, and horizontal controls. All the 50+ crowd is with me on this one.

    Hi there ad THANKS for a great video!! I have the same problem as you I have an LG 55LB6000 that flickers BUT I noticed that on your video your leds are flashing at the same intensity as mine it flashes bright (2 times) and then flashes a bit dim (1 time - then 2 time bright, 1 time dim etc...) and I did a dc volt test and I get 170 on both output. You have one normal and the other one bad reading. So now what can I do now that I know mine has both readings the same values?? What could it be the PS? The caps and everything looks normal to the eye no bulge or burnt marks so what could you suggest as next step to do? Thanks for any help!!!

    After taking the screws off and still can't open the back panel, I gave up trying to fix it. I put the screws all back. Plug the TV and, of course, it was still flickering. I said my goodbyes, and angrily hit that TV like it was an 80s TV, yelling at it, "DON'T YOU DIE ON ME!! DON'T YOU DARE DIE!!" Gave it another hit one last time....
    Suddenly, the flickering stopped and the picture slowly appeared like an angel. I quickly selected "Home" on the remote and selected the RUclips app.
    RUclips showed up on my TV screen. OMG!! My TV is alive!!!!! It worked again. I guess I was the lucky one where perhaps something was loose and hitting it realigned it back. I moved my TV a week ago to another area of the room, so don't know if that caused any loose wiring for it to flicker. Anyway, hit it in the back and see if it'll work for you.

    Question. Since only one bank of lights is not working, is it possible to swap two banks and see. If the top bank stops working and the bottom one starts working, then you know its lights, not the power board. If no change - its the power board...?

  • @CatoptricCistula

    It's a straightforward repair though has potential for issues:
    Unscrew outside plastic and front metal panel and after separating the plastic housing around the light box, set aside the glass image screen panel by loosening the bottom ribbon cable from the swivel clip. To remove the clips keeping the reflector light box attached by sliding down and carefully prying the plastic from the metal housing, and once removing the tv light diffuser, fresnel lens, and whatever the third sheet is, it can be done entirely from the front (though alternatively, you might need to get access to underneath the circuit boards, it really isn't required unless you're uncomfortable with the capacitors being exposed which could potentially get damaged,) by twisting the square/rectangle plastic components they will unlock and if you pull up one corner of the long narrow pieces with the spacer sticking up, gently pull up the corner of the long strips of plastic to slide it out. From here you get access to the lcd wire harness and lights, and you will need to pull up on the wiring harness to get it off, and then pry off the strip of panel (and hopefully you have replacement lcds with plastic lenses.)
    The issue I had was when rescrewing the glass panel with the housing, as apparently it wasn't completely flush with the molding and cracked when retightening. I will still use the screen but it does show up at certain times.

    • @CatoptricCistula
      @CatoptricCistula 2 года назад

      I should also add, the power supply seems to be causing shortages when these tv power on, as man LG tv from this time are prone to the same defect, and it's not any different with new light panels. They will continue to burn out.

    My LG 55LB60000-UH screen is black when first turned but it flickers from top to bottom where I can see the LG logo and settings menus. After a few seconds, the entire screen fades to black. No pulsating light like shown in your video.
    Meter tests with LED light cable detached from the power board. One of the LED+ reading is 161-175, and on the other LED+, the reading is 174 to 199.
    I presume this is a faulty power board not bad LEDs.
    Would this be a correct assessment?
    When powered on I can see good LED lighting from the top to the bottom of the screen. It doesn't appear any LED's are out. It powers on with a black screen with good contrast to the menus flickering on the screen for about 3 to 5 seconds then fades to black with nothing at all on the screen like the power is fading out completely.
    What's your opinion?

    When my friend was describing it it sounded like a capacitor issue. I opened it hoping it would eb an easy fix, and then saw hundred of volts, rip my odds of using one that can handle 50

      you look for the ratings on the capacitors on each side of the led socket and the voltage should be close to the ratings i think

    So I don't think it's me led lights, I believed it's my power. I tested like you showed and had under 100 on both sides and about the same from the other side while unplugged if I remember correctly. So I didn't see any other comments about that or any videos you posted about what to do if it wasn't the LED strips. Suggestions or can you put me in the right direction please. Thank you

    What should I do? This started happening to my pc monitor, it blinks like that for 2-4 minutes before it starts working like usual, when I boot up the pc, there's no brightness loss or something like that however. I've used it extensively for years so maybe this is a sign that it's gona stop working soon? Or can it be fixed?

      im pretty sure you have a blown out capacitor on your power supply. take it apart and look at the capasitors for any that look slightly bulged on top. you will have to remove and resolder new capacitors

    Seems to me that if you switched the left and right positive wires of the LED's you could better test if the strips are working.
    Looks like the power supply was the problem to me.

    • @HexMarksthespot
      @HexMarksthespot 3 года назад +1

      The power supply readings change after disconnecting the strips, and the readings he's getting after disconnecting them are normal on this TV. I got the same results as him on my TV and found obviously burnt LEDs. Replacing them fixed the tv

    Scored identical tv same prob at scrapyard. 2 dud led's- chiselled them off and soldered a bridge across the gaps and all other lights work full time. Reassembled tv, carelessly cracked the screen doing so! Now have sound and backlight with no picture- I'll keep it for parts as i regularly score tellys for free! Bummer.

    I have an old LG I gave to my son that worked fine for many years. Found this video when the flickering started which was cool but we decide to go new to get a cheap 4k that is 55in instead. Sometimes you have to weigh out the pluses and minuses one whether to stink money into something as old that is 1080, limited on inputs and no smart features.
