Celebrating its 8th birthday the successful indie multiplayer game King Arthur's Gold is available at no cost!
KAG was one of the first games to combine Terraria/Minecraft-like building with team-based PVP combat in a fully destructible medieval 2D physics setting.
It had an active community and development for the last 8 years and turning F2P should ensure another healthy 8 years!
KAG has always been a unique game, and so is the development process and funding:
* The game is developed in collaboration with the community through open source game code contributions and bounties (github.com/tra....
* Fixes, new features, and official maps are added through democratic voting (via community Discord discordapp.com...)
* After it turns F2P it will be entirely funded by Patreon contributors and player customization DLCs ( / kingarthursgold )
Players who own the game before the F2P date will keep all their customisation options, will be golden in the scoreboard, and may get some surprise perks as well. Free players will be able to unlock the customisation options with DLC purchases or patreon support, and will otherwise have full access to the game, including all gamemodes and mods.
We look forward to welcoming everyone who hasn't had a chance to play KAG yet into the community, and hope to see some old friends back on the battlefield as well!

As someone who's only now playing this for the first time, I highly recommend trying out the game for yourself. It's chaotic fun, just beware that there's a ton of tricks and odd mechanics the game won't tell you about in the tutorial, but other players can hopefully teach you.
I remember paying for the game with my phone to have access to the zombie mod, so much fun thanks again !
Man I haven't played this game since I put it on a flash drive to play on my school laptop. This was just after the first iteration of the zombie defense mode was being tested. Not sure how long ago that was.
I wanna say that was a good 7 years ago? That was about when I joined, too. And apparently my account is about 7 years old.
Thanks for everything, developers. It was my favorite game for 7 or 8 happy years and I still comeback from time to time to play it and to feel nostalgia. I made a lot of friends and earned many communication skills, including speaking foreign languages. Thanks to your creation for making my life as it is. Thank you for that masterpiece.
Ahoy, I remember good old days. It will never return. I love KAG. This game gave me a lot of international friends (we won ARL championship of the KAG alpha). I did not knew english before this game, again thanks the international team. We made a lot of sprites and different mods for this game - it was a good start for our future jobs. I really miss spirit of the KAG. Arrrgh!

How are you making money now that it's free to play? I love the game but it always suffered from a low playerbase so I suppose this move is what it takes to revitalise the community.
I used to play this game years ago when it was free. Such a unique game that's still fun despite all the years that have passed. Time to return I guess.

this is a really good game. Only thing that stinks is the fps lag when there are 25 people at once, my PC goes to 1 fps and it doesn't register my input anymore (like I press twice to double slash as knight but the game thinks I was holding and I get stunned). It works well when it's 10 players though
