  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2013 Ford Focus ST and the VW Golf R and Nissan Juke Nismo are three of the newest and sportiest hatchback cars that you can buy today. The 2013 Ford Focus ST represents a best of Ford's American and European performance team while the Golf R is the top Golf that you can buy in America. And while the 2013 Nissan Juke Nismo is just a little bit more powerful than the regular Juke it also represents the sportiest 5 door car that Nissan currently builds. So of course we wanted to know which of these hot hatchbacks is the fastest from 0-60 MPH at a mile above sea level. In another fun and informative TFLcar mashup review...we get the entire TFLcar team together to test the cars and crown a winner.

    Can't wait for the next mashup. It'll probably be between a Ford Fusion AWD, a Nissan Titan, and a Fiat 500.

    Pretty sure they had the Juke's CVT in manual shift mode, and then failed to use the paddle shifters. That's why it was changing 'gear' at ~7K instead of ~4.5-5K. It's shifting to prevent you redlining too long and destroying the engine when you forget you're in manual shift mode.

    • @DJPJ2741
      @DJPJ2741 5 лет назад

      Do you even know what CVT is ???? There was no step tronic in this video only auto CVT sucking ??? If they had it in step tronic you would see it

    • @hannahroy1260
      @hannahroy1260 2 года назад +3

      @@DJPJ2741 the juke can simulate shifts with 8 preset shift algorithms when in sport or manual. They were in manual and using it as if it was in automatic. In manual it allows you to row through your own “gears” and as a safety the car will upshift on its own so it does not redline and damage itself

On the other hand i'm sure the golf can do a little better if you feed it clutch instead of just letting go so quickly but it will shorten the life of the clutch by so much its not even worth it.

    Hey Folks! Today is 1/17/2015 and this test is nearly ancient history. There isn't much surprise to the result of the Focus being the quickest when it has such a large torque advantage over the Juke, and with the AWD systems on the VW and Nissan not being used to proper advantage, as in 0 - 60 not being the ultimate measure of a car's performance potential. Nathan's negative biases are not hidden in his ....making cars move. I am also biased as I am now the owner of a Juke SV. There is no need to power brake the Juke! I would never do that to a car with a CVT transmission, especially not one I want to last as long as the loan! He did not mention the SPORT Driver's Mode which will get the car to 60 with great alacrity and entertaining noises. The Juke has several personalities that can be explored with the push of a button, the flick of a switch, and the flip of a lever. Drivers beware because if you don't watch the speedometer, you can get THERE much faster than you realize - THERE being traffic court.

My Mazdaspeed Miata only does 42 about in 2nd and I autocross with it which means I am rowing the gears from 2nd to 3rd back 2nd and so on during my run the through, or hopefully around the cones. I feel it makes it more of a challenge and more entertaining, while the other autocrossers can stay in 2nd their entire run.

      I own a 2013 VW Golf R. I can easily beat 8 seconds from 0-60. First of all his launch was terribad and he's not paying attention to his RPM. I found that when driving the Golf R, it's a little difficult to tell how high your RPM is from the sound when getting used to it. The sound is different from anything else I've ever owned and it doesn't sound much different at 4rpm than 6rpm. I usually don't shift until I hit about 6-6.5 RPM and I'll usually hit 60 as I shift to 3rd gear. He's not giving the car a chance to use high end power. He's using pretty much mid range power.

    Love the videos, but one thing - the turbochargers should compensate entirely for the altitude (although not heat). This is because a TC builds to a given manifold pressure, not a given airflow (like a roots supercharger) or linearly to RPM (like a centri-supercharger or N/A car). This is why you don't apply SAE altitude corrections to turbocharged cars, regardless of altitude. Try turning off the TC next time - if I'm pulling better times on a MkV GTI with only an APR Stage 1 (and all-seasons), you're leaving performance out there ~somewhere~.

    Horrifying that the 2 more expensive vehicles (another $12k+ for the VW over the Ford!) also have the crappier performance numbers. There were cars from the 1990's with much less technology that could destroy them. If I were NISMO, I'd be ashamed for slapping a red letter "R" on that turd of a Juke. 90 F at 5200 ft above sealevel is around 7900 ft above sealevel in density altitude. 7.1 is pretty darn good in the St about 3/4 of a sec slower than at around 1000 ft. The Golf R and it's awd, 256hp/243 tq should have done mid 7's. Sure it's down 25-27 tq on the ST.

    About the golf power output, its not just because of the weather but because of the fuel, petrol sold in US is usually not as good as the EU for which are this FSI engines originally developed, they are made run on 98+ octane premium, which is also more expensive so i guess they just de-tuned it for the average petrol sold in US which have much lower RON then the petrol sold in EU, EU super is like US premium. Most commonly is in US sold petrol with aprox RON of 90, which is too low for this engine to run on its full potential.
    Hope i didn't upset anybody.

    This was such a shit comparison. The Juke Nismo with a 1.6 Turbo, making the least hp by 50 hp, with the most weight, shitty CVT trans and this made sense to you guys. You would think if you are going to put the Juke at such a disadvantage you would at least run the Juke R with a 6 speed manual transmission.

    Actually, I think it's more interesting to see how fast cars are in the real world with average drivers (and not some paid hot shoe behind the wheel), on the real road and not a rubber-laden drag strip and not with ideal conditions (wind, dusty roads). It gives you a better idea how they will perform in the real world on the street and not in a laboratory. Also I heard someone nix the Golf R for reliability. I've owned several VWs and not once have I ever been left stranded thank you very much!

    Still can't get to 60 in 2nd gear in the ST either. And to the two dingbats below, XLPCX and Chief K, this testing was done at 5200 ft above sealevel. That alone makes it much more difficult for the engines to breath. Hp is reduced by 15%. So, the ST would be near 211 hp, not 252 and the GOlf R is at 215 hp, not 256... Plus, hot temps raise the density altitude another 1000 ft which drops another 5 hp off both. As he stated in the beginning of each test, the speed at sealevel is much better. Turbo or not.
