I think the greatest thing this showcases is the fact that, it was entirely possible for Hop to become champion, but couldn't not because of his mons, but because of himself. There were times he had a great team of mons and a strong level, but hop kept switching them out for different mons the second he ran into difficulty, I.E., us. He didnt even use a full team in the SEMIFINALS for crying out loud. Hop could have been champion, but ultimately wasnt. NOT because he wasnt the player character, but because he got in his own head.

Hop states that he has read all the books that Leon left behind, which when inspected are said to be too complicated for you to understand, and his legue card states that "his cerefully horded knowledge can go to waste as he tends to get easily flustered in battle.", these are clear hints for Hop having greater aptitude for research than for battle, you were just not paying enough attention
The pokemon Hop has are situational depending on what you choose for your starter. Hop could of easily beat nessa's gym if he had chosen grookey. And he clearly never gave up. Also taking out cramorant was clearly a good move, especially for a legendary.

The only problem is that Leon takes the pokemon weak to his brother. So you'd somehow need to transfer a Grookey(if this is the same route) for it to be a bit closer.

Also he’s know to not be a great battler (and it’s stated that he’s more into strategies and research), so he wouldn’t care *HOW* many Pokémon, but *WHAT* Pokémon. Edit: I just realized something. Hop gets a lot of Pokémon from the wild area because he love field research. It all fits. GameFreak did a great job with this game!!!

In my game, Marnie and hop show alot of growth as eventually Marnie beats her brother. Hop eventually beats her, bede and every other gym leader then actually pulled out a victory against me after I beat Leon. So yeah, Hop actually becomes champion in my game. I'm a proud rival :')

Pokemon Sword/Shield as Raihan. Supposedly Raihan always tries, and fails, to beat Leon, but isn't his team almost perfectly equipped to handle Charizard? Aside from Duraludon, it's all ground types with Sandstorm, fliers, or that Abomasnow with Hail. I'm assuming he only fails because single battles aren't his forte. Either that or Piers, who apparently nearly wiped Raihan but lost to Dynamaxing, which he doesn't do on principle.
The Pokémon Drednaw actually has the ability swift swim. That ability actually raise its speed in the rain. This strategy isn’t seen because Drednaw is her last Pokémon, the rain buff doesn’t really happen because it need to use a move. Also, Your at a disadvantage because you had a fire starter and water type are super effective... I guess gym trainer Heather advice applies to Nessa too. Because a lot of her Pokémon had swift swim and imagine it. I’ll just be quiet... Hmmm... Maybe I should make a Nessa base team, I do have her outfit. I could wash way the competition. Water Lillie anyone?
Do a “Can you beat pokemon sword and shield as Martin (The one with solrock in raids)” To do that you use good pokemon but with half the move slots be status moves and limit yourself to using attacking move once every turn

I definitely do think he would have used eteranus. He gets the shield legendary post game and used it against us. I don’t think he would’ve not used it against leon
I don't know why but hearing Vasko laugh brings me this joy from the inside. I guess when you haven't felt happy in a while being able to hear someone else genuinely happy is very nice to hear.
Nice one! Now we need to see if Bede would have been able to do well in the Gym challenge if Rose hadn't kicked him out early. (which means as a Psychic type trainer - I personally think it's fair to add to his Psychic team until he has 6 Pokemon... mainly things he would have found along the journey, e.g. the Mr. Mime line)
You know what? I disagree/ I think Hop COULD have become the champion. But you know why he didn't? We can't have anyone other than Mr. McBlankFace win the Pokemon League. I think if hop actually were ALLOWED to win, he could have done it. Hop can be a good character, if not a good rival, it's just that SWSH don't have good writting. :/

I’d love to see in Anime Ash’s Journeys team could become the Galar Champion using Pikachu (G-Max) for the first 3 gyms (holding light ball cause Pikaboi op) getting dragonnite, Gengar and riolu (I believe there is a way to cheese the Raid dens to get Dragonite and gengar at your level) on the way to hammerlock, evolve Riolu into Lucario and give it the Expert Belt to simulate mega evolution 🤷♂️, then adding Farfetch’d (evolving into Sirfetch’d) and Dravovish at appropriate times, then it’s a slog against Leon and the Leauge for the championship
Since this is a switch game, you can just make a new user profile on you switch and play PKMN on that profile. you can't play online with it unbless you want to pay for a second Switch Online Membership but the main game is perfectly fine. Thats what I did when I tries to Nuzzlock Lets Go Eevee version without deleting my save file
Hop would definitely have used the legendary as when you complete the post game if you go to the arena and do a tournament battle you can invite Hop and he will use the opposite legendary from the one you get

Lol I remember using a pokeball on Mewtwo, when I played Pokemon red when I was young. I used a wigglytuff to try putting it to sleep, but it wouldn't stay asleep. I tossed a regular pokeball and caught it first try... hasn't happened since sadly.

I have a theory on why hop only Got that rookidee birb, and it’s very short and simple His Gigantamax pokemon is a corvinight, we see that in the battle at wyndon stadium with em At the start of the game where he actually gets the rookidee, and asked how many Pokémon you got at the station to go to the wild area, he says: “I caught a really special one!” Witch I believe meant that he somehow caught a Gigantamax-capable rookidee on route 1. Or his bro gave it to him- who knows
Hop....... he’s so annoying. Marnie should have been the only rival. Hop’s team sucks, he’s too upbeat even though we know he’s always gonna fail, the game makes you feel bad for beating him.
To be fair, officially Hop gets paired up far more often with Sobble and Grookey as his starter. I don´t know why it was necessary to choose scorbunny given that is the starter less associated to Hop. That would´ve helped with the fight with Nessa (and in Nessa´s case it makes sense for her to choose a sobble as her starter).
So I noticed after my first play through that I never lost to hop. So I started over and I ran into the issue that hop will not take down your last Pokémon once it hits a certain percentage. (Unless he crits). He was like this until post game. Can you confirm?

The undefeatable Leon versus the very defeatable hop had me in stitches

Cramorant didn't help vs Bea?
It did but it kept losing against hitmontop and when it did it would die to the next Pokémon

I think Snorlax couldn’t use HEAVY SLAM because it depends on what weight is Lapras and Snorlax, but weight is removed in Gigantamax/Dynamax...so?
I think that is the case,I remember I told my cinderace to use low sweep on a dynamax ferroseed and he didnt do anything

I’d love to see in Anime Ash’s Journeys team could become the Galar Champion using Pikachu (G-Max) for the first 3 gyms (holding light ball cause Pikaboi op) getting dragonnite, Gengar and riolu (I believe there is a way to cheese the Raid dens to get Dragonite and gengar at your level) on the way to hammerlock, evolve Riolu into Lucario and give it the Expert Belt to simulate mega evolution 🤷♂️, then adding Farfetch’d (evolving into Sirfetch’d) and Dravovish at appropriate times, then it’s a slog against Leon and the Leauge for the championship

Since this is a switch game, you can just make a new user profile on you switch and play PKMN on that profile. you can't play online with it unbless you want to pay for a second Switch Online Membership but the main game is perfectly fine.

Hop would definitely have used the legendary as when you complete the post game if you go to the arena and do a tournament battle you can invite Hop and he will use the opposite legendary from the one you get

I choose Scorbunny, so it made sense seeing Hop think Nessa's gym was easy. Maybe it's too much to ask for some variation depending on starter pokemon
I wanna know if npc gym challengers can become the champ like an alternate ending if you actually can’t do it and the game makes you restart all over from the first gym lmao mad slap in the face but this games battles are really ez tho so honestly idk how you wouldn’t be able to do it first try I also wish gamefreak added support for difficulty settings cause this whole game is on ez

Lol I remember using a pokeball on Mewtwo, when I played Pokemon red when I was young. I used a wigglytuff to try putting it to sleep, but it wouldn't stay asleep. I tossed a regular pokeball and caught it first try... hasn't happened since sadly.

To be fair, officially Hop gets paired up far more often with Sobble and Grookey as his starter. I don´t know why it was necessary to choose scorbunny given that is the starter less associated to Hop. That would´ve helped with the fight with Nessa (and in Nessa´s case it makes sense for her to choose a sobble as her starter).

So I noticed after my first play through that I never lost to hop. So I started over and I ran into the issue that hop will not take down your last Pokémon once it hits a certain percentage. (Unless he crits). He was like this until post game. Can you confirm?
