My tone journey is fucking rough... Being a Lefty you can't really play before pay. You have to just order something and hope it turns out good. So many times it isn't. I honestly have this fear that because no lefty works QC basically anywhere then there's this chance that I've never played a good guitar in my life lol
I used to be “that guy” who said I only play Fenders. I’m not sure why exactly.
But now I completely agree with Rhett. “That’s stupid.” I own many different brands of guitars now.
I think I used to say that because I was afraid to try other brands and like them, and then I’d have to spend more money I didn’t have and get them.
I have an older Epiphone SG 400 I bought as „New old stock“ and that things ripps hard.
It sounds really great and feels nice. It’s lightweight and the build quality is actually good for an older Epiphone.
For that carbon fibre thing.
I actually had an headless 80s Status Graphite bass with a Carbon neck. It had special sound but It was great. That neck never moved a bit.
This channel is just what RUclips guitar world needed.

On the subject of ‘tribal/brand loyalty’, I have narrowed down my preference on scale lengths and neck radius, and Fender guitars pretty much check the boxes. I also, for the most part, am a single coil and p90 guy. Lately I have been building my own partscasters to the specs I want because of my tastes. My main guitar is a Tele with a single p90 in the bridge. I had always wanted a Led Paul Jr, but I like 7.25” radius necks with large frets. No one made anything like it, so I built.
Then Fender released the Noventa Tele that was dang close to what I wanted. 😂
Zack that's the same way I buy a recliner. I try them out even before I look at price because comfort comes first. 😄
That was the best episode to date. “Uncle Rhett for Shoyles fine electrical instruments” was priceless.
Takes a few years to know enough to be able to even start looking. I'm up to about 20 electrics since 2013, and I'm just now feeling that I nw what I really love. Most of those were fantastic, just a couple I didn't like due to small frets or whatever. I think my tastes have evolved.
Australia's version of, stylistically unique, local pro-luthier using only pro-quality wood components & parts guitar builder Denis Fano is a Queensland Sunshine Coast hinterland area genius called Morrison.

These are guitars of INSANE merit I sh*t you not, the Nova's too look the bizzo in all the same ways. My Morrison SC hollow absolutely crys laughs sings growls howls & can shatter bones or heal self-doubts & internal criticisms & broken marriages at a whim!
It it a rock n'roll machinegun a terraplane blues monster & aesthetically tonally ergonomically the design construction & 'feel' is to die-for. Mr. guitar wizard Morrison (just like Denis Fano, obviously does in Nashville); is building off-tap hollowbody semi's solid guitars of crazy craven hankering to pick-up & play build & artistically quirky yet brilliantly done designs.
Like Nova's, Morrison's are uniquely modern interpretations of designs overly-familiar;
and ya know what that breeds like Sleestaks in a cave, don'tcha?. They just look deadly too! Not to mention the eye-wateringly good level of attention to detail, timber selection, tonality, scale intonation fretwork, pickups etc; the whole ugly great whack - is nothing short of genius. Morrison like Nova & lately, Reverend - are amazing to behold.

My my new addition custom sculptured SC Morrison is so comfy smooth! I've also tried unplugged to my utter delight a Tele type - Morrison's just chime - hollow or not, even solid-bodies sing like lyre-birds with timbre tone & sustain that would make a guitarophile park his breakfast on the Axminster pronto... gospel. Morrison guitars are fully sick!
Better still, they play 1,000 time better than they look, they are reasonably priced for the outstanding level of quality in every facet of Morrison's magic.
If anyone in almighty Oz, I'd be obliged, can fill me in on his given name, location precisely in SE Queensland I'd be at once very grateful for this info. Like the Nova's I guess, both custom built 1-off's, Morrison just have something extra intangible unimpartable quality which sets them country miles apart from guitars 'off-the-rack'. Nothing wrong with those either, at all, just to make that clear. Honest, cross my heart, hope to die (probably of smoking like a Rasta knowing me?..) my QLD built custom Morrison & by the looks & sounds of this video of rare beauty, your Solus Nova's guys also, are not boring in the slightest but are new & every bit in every way as good as the usual curmudgeonly stuffy stolid suspects - if not bioluminescent flying octopus sh*t better in every possible guitar-head's mode method or measures!?! I know great guitars when I play one I'll give ya the drum 'til ya shut me up with an uppercut, fair-dinkum!
May I be so presumptuous to propose, indeed, I firmly believe it would surely prove the case, or I'm a sasquatch in drag; Mr. Fano { Nashville, TN USA } & Mr. Morrison { SE Queensland, Australia } would get along like a house on fire both are obviously superb musical instrument craftsmen with novel twists on old ideas with outrageously good guitars the result! I'm as delighted with my Morrison as u blokes are with your Nova's - far too much rock n' roll is woefully insufficient & Morrison Blackstar is fast becoming my neighbours deafening combo of choice - whether they like it or not - and I'm not turnin' it down 'til the cops show up aiming mace & tazers at me.

Just of late, more recently, Reverend guitars are another great modern unique design style guitar maker I've noticed & like a gr8 deal.

Rhett was right. That Tyler guitar headstock is aesthetically challenged for sure. The Hahn guitars headstock, which is similar but smaller, looks 1000% better
I wish I could afford a Novo. One day we will gig again and I might be able to justify the cost. A man can dream right...

I has a 335 when i was younger that I had on layaway paying off for like 2 years. It was beat up and didn't stay in tune but I loved it.. I also had a Parker Fly which was the coolest ever and an early PRS. I now have a cu24 so I guess it is time for a strat for me..
for the rig, if the guy is into classic old school marshall tone the marshall origin series is reeeeally good, pretty cheap and very underrated

You should make an episode about misunderstood guitars/gear - I own a Meteora HH and i really think its one of the best things Fender has made lately. The ergonomics are great and i also love the looks. A Fano vibe on a strat/tele size.
On the offset shape thing you said here too, i think the MM Valentine and the Yamaha Revstar are supercool and everybody says they’re great!

Heritage has gotten a couple shoutouts over the last several episodes. Just wanted to share that my 2003 H150 remains the best Les Paul I've owned (including CS), but it did require a lot of TLC in the setup and I've modded it a great deal with vintage electronics/hardware. I agree with Zach, don't buy a "project." But in this case, it was perfect for what I was doing ten years ago but I've modded it over time to fit my current needs. 🤟
I've been playing with the same HSS "starcaster" strat style guitar for 10 years and I thought I wanted another better strat, but I saw the gretsch streamliner g2215 with the bridge 'tron and the neck p90 and now I don't know...
In terms of pedals Dean Deleo STP has used a Boss CE-2W and an Echoplex delay.
Hey Rhett, i used to work at the store where the Dutchburst is from and have played about 6 Collectors Choice DB and the Origional 1960. And let me tell you, they are alle different (and none are like the origional). If you like thats one, get that one. I know i'm just conferming what you said but i cant stress enough with guitars that are handbuild that you really need to try more then 1 of the same type. Even with Novo, I own one, but it was the 5th i played that had "the ring". Not all are equal.
Happy new year! Perfectly timed episode! I have just started looking for a single pickup guitar.
Pots, switches, pups, tuners, nuts can all be replaced. Leveling frets and taking a sander to the finish are bigger deal. But you can tell the soul of a guitar with an unplugged open A and it sets well in your lap, even with fret buzz. I regret walking out on a $300 Squire that danced in my hands because it was a $300 Squire.
Those Solus F1's are killer... the only question is to German carve or not :-)
I claimed to be a "Fender guy" for years! 90% of my guitars are Fenders. My baby, my number one is a Gibson Les Paul Classic Lite lol. I ditched the tribal mentality a while ago
I would love to submit a track. Also, I was looking for a semi hollow. I bought my first electric and it was a used epiphone dot. I sold it to by a midi keyboard. I have missed that guitar ever since I sold it. I have been wanting a semi-hollow and so I went to Guitar Center and tried all of the semi-hollows they had in stock. I was wanting to fall back in love with another epiphone dot. But, I could not do it. They had a Pro version site push pull pots that I wanted to love. But, it did nothing for me. I picked up a gretsch streamliner and fell in love. It was not the dot that I sold but it just spoke to me. I told my wife not knowing what would happen. Christmas Day I was handed a bag with my new Red Streamliner with Bigsby. I now have 4 "Budget Electric" guitars. I have had 2 new guitars in the last year I don't think she will be buying me any more. I could always upgrade my acoustic. idk...
I bought a Gibson Les Paul Custom from a reputable dealer , was amazed at first and then my heart sank.....the nut was on backwards! I was like WTF? How did that guitar leave the factory that way? How did it leave the dealer that way? Never bought from that dealer again, but did by another LPC elsewhere.

Marshall Valvestate 100 was the amp Chuck Schuldiner used for Death's sound. Definitely not for ZZ Top stuff, but respectable machine if you wanna go technical death metal route.
Its funny about the headstock thing because that is my problem with Novo guitars. I can't deal with the headstock. Funny, because i liked the old Fano headstocks
I suggest a click track for the opening theme. 90 bpm on a 4 bar fade out. Though maybe someone would file a block on that, so how about 89.99 bpm?

Hey guys, writing this as I'm watching one of my favourite show on RUclips just a thought, might be a stupid idea but.....how about you sell the graphic download for the t-shirts and hoodies so that is fans in the UK for example don't have to pay tax + shipping + duty. We could just take it to the t-shirt printing shop and print them. Might be a dumb idea I'm sure there's reasons why not but ....thought I'd put it out there. 🙂

I have a Custom Shop Les Paul R8 that the switch won’t stay in rhythm pickup (neck) setting. After a few seconds of playing, it springs right back down. Drives me nuts and now it never gets played.
You can that the switch out and bend the mechanism to keep it in place. A pain but it can help!

That’s awesome advice! I’ll try that out and let y’all know how it turns out next week. It’s been a shame cause the custombuckers in it are INCREDIBLE. But that annoyed me so much, and I couldn’t trust it in Studio or live. Though about replacing the switch but then with something like that it could detract from the perceived “value”. Thanks for the trick!

Right on! They aren't for everyone for sure. I (Zach) am not a huge fan of the Jazzmaster bridge thing so a J wouldn't be one I would go for personally.

I’m worried that I might be in the “not for everyone” group. I like everything about Novo guitars in the videos I’ve seen. They sound great, look amazing, and I love the enthusiasm that owners have for them. I’m ready for Novo to reopen their showroom so that I can play one, and see if they will work for me.

You guys should consider putting lingo translations in the description for beginners. I’m not sure if you have many beginners who watch, but I know when I was totally clueless, the lingo made me feel even more excluded from the community. “Pots” took me a long time to figure out in particular. Sure, you could google it, but I’d love to see the guitar community to work on inclusivity as much as possible!
Hey, Rhett, have you really played shitty playing Gibson Custom Shop guitars? I haven't played a single one from the CS, so I assume they must be good. The price kinda dictates so.
I’ve played CS guitars that weren’t worth the money (in my opinion) and I’ve played CS guitars that were total ringers. Point is there’s no correlation to price and tone (which is subjective)

I've seen a 2020 R9 (from the custom shop) come in non-functioning... It reinforced the idea that I want to put my hands on a Gibson before purchasing.
