  • Learn to progress your kitesurfing from your sofa!
Episode 1: Board Grabs - It's time to get some exercise with a few grab routines and build up that muscle memory ready for when you are back on the water! All from the safety of your sofa, Progression's Rob Claisse will introduce you to the basics of the tail grab, giving you the in-depth understanding of what, why and how to make that first grab. Then we'll look at how to improve our technique by hanging under the kite before we run through all 9 backhand grabs.

Kitesofaing is Progression's new web series, offering constructive techniques you can practice at home during the COVID-19 lockdown (though nothing to stop you carrying on when things go back to normal). The plan is for two videos each week:
    * The Weekend video will focus on "doing", activities you can try and practice at home
    * The Mid-week video will cover a range of topics and focus more on better understanding through detailed theory briefings and question and answer sessions - submit your questions to Rob at kitesofaing@progression.me

Who would have thought this would have gone on so long! It may have taken me a year to find your tutorials, but it's never too late to learn grabs, right? Love your explanations, I need it to be kept simple as I get confused really easily! Thanks and I hope to improve a lot!!!

Your stuff is the best I used the progression beginner dvd when I first started and was very helpful and now watch a lot of the other series up to the advanced I like the format and your voice over is great. Playing around like you are with the grabs is key to learning anything nice tutorial. I see so many people out on the beach seem to be afraid to play around and try new things and fly the kite all around in different ways and conditions and just get the feel for things but that's the fastest and essential elements to progression

Nice video. But I’ve gotta police the grabs a bit. Crail is back hand on nose. Nose is front hand on nose. Reason why people are policing grabs because grabs are hard. Lazy grabs means the rider didn’t Ollie correctly to get their knees high enough to grab so they settled for the closest rail of the board.

Damn it! And there I was thinking I'd got away with it 😅
And that is probably the best answer I've heard about why certain grabs are frown on by skaters, snowboarders etc but for kiters, at least those just doing straight jumps, grabs are kind of easy once you get them - we have LOADS of time to grab, hence multi grab jumps - you're unlikely to see that on a skateboard. So does the difference between a tail or tindy grab really matter for boosting kiteboarders, they are both the same difficulty? (I understand that powered wakestyle tricks are different in some ways as way less time to grab)

Progression Sports I and many other riders would agree that tail is harder than tindy. Tindy you can just reach down and grab. Tail takes awareness and proper placement. In the wakeboard world if you go for tail or nose and grab the corner of your board it’s considered a missed grab (aka cornis) kiteboarders doing hooked in jumps in my opinion should be criticized even more especially since we have much more time in the air. If you watch the top riders such as Sam Light, Ewan Jaspan, Aaron Harlow, noe etc - their grabs are always correct. They won’t post anything else. This is because they hold themselves to a standard.
