Hey kramer. My name is geoff and I live in Southern Illinois. I've made walking sticks, front door plaques, etc for many years, however , about 2 years ago I branched out into bow building. Recently I "invented" a "bow backing"/finish: I mix spray spar urethane with clear gorilla glue In a disposable cup and apply to back of self bows made from harvested staves; the benefit is, it dries clear so as to show the natural beauty of the wood. It also tends to be very thick and has a decent amount of integrity when dry. Obviously, it is not full proof, and I have had a very nice red bud bow that treated with it break (it should be mentioned that there were fatal flaws in that red bud stave ). Also, It would more practical to merely back your self bow with clear bear paw. On the other hand, I've built a maple recurve/deflex with this treatment and it has survived well. At best it is most likely a novelty. But I would be appreciative if you might include it on any future episodes of will it bow? Thank you
...as to that compulsion which draws of our disciplines in ways uncontrollable ... a brilliant singer and songwriter pinned a single comforting sentence of that above,
" The vision never dies."
Deus Vult !!!
Hey Kramer, you should make a Mongolian horsebow sometime!
Yes I would love to see that as well!!!🤞
Same here!
Can someone please give me the link for a fiberglass strip 😫I'm not able to find one
@@vijaykorvekar1009 Have you tried Gordon Plastics?
@@KageStelhman what is that fiberglass sheet called
Your so cool My friend! Starting to feel a little better watching your work, and your energy Rock's 🎉, Your a special being My friend. You have a wonderful gift of telent. Thank you for sharing.. God bless you and your family
As a wood shop Forman for a dozen years, I think you could use a couple of suggestions: zero clearance inserts for both the bandsaw and the tablesaw. Absolutely keeps fingers attached to the required places. Use your dust collection system for the sander, bandsaw, and tablesaw. Anything that produces dust is your enemy, especially with exotic woods. Thousands of hours of personal operation allows me to spread my experience, not trying to belittle you, but just make your later years more healthy. I would make a collection cuff for the out feed drum of the belt sander, it may not get 100% of the dust, but most of it. Zero clearance inserts are easy, epoxy offcuts from hardwood with occasional cross grain for strength. Table saw the same. Build your self a study table that places the top of your saw at belt height, with an outfeed table the length of the longest length that you plan on cutting. When you can afford one, a ceiling mounted air filter is a great idea, or you can build one for very little expense. If you take a little time and incorporate these suggestions you will find that your hobby / business will be both easier and you won’t be blowing colored funk out of your nasal passages. Been there, done that and the cheapskates I worked for didn’t even provide the T-shirts. Good luck, and if you are interested in more shop updates, feel free to ask an old fart who has been around the patch a couple of times 😅
Good looking out my friend. Good looking out, only if there were more of you and I!God bless
Thanks for sharing. Make all the bows you want. Your quality craftmanship will be appreciated by customers worldwide.
You're the god damned Hatori Hanzo of bowyers!! ;)
Saturday morning bow build heck yeah can't wait to watch this ☕ and 🏹
9:16 Sorcery! You're a wizard Harry!
Great. This video explained everything i was searching for. I'm from Namibia, and want to start making bows..
Kramer, are you gonna attempt a Native American horn an sinue bow at some point?
Please make a Turkish bow, or Mongolian bow
I’m an outdoor RUclipsr from Washington State... love your work! I’m going to make my own long bow using your steps.. super stoked and excited to see how it works out for me... I’ll be using it for hunting this fall. Keep up the great work brother 🏹👊🏼🌲😃
She's a nice looking bow good work.
Love watching your bow builds, you make it look so simple, if I lived Stateside I would have one of your bows in a second..... if my pension would allow it!... keep posting!
This vidéo set me in THE mood! Hope you will continue silent videos from time to time, I must say I enjoy it a lot... Good luck for your next bows!
Just a heads up as a fellow woodworker here. I don't do bows, but I work a lot with table saws. It's best if you don't wear gloves while working on a table saw. If the blade catches the glove it could pull your whole hand in to it. I know it sounds counter intuitive, but having bare hands would be better in case of an accident. Same goes for long sleeve shirts. Great content though. Relaxing to watch a bow being made.
Kramer, please wear a mask when fiberglass dust is airborne. That stuff will make your life miserable if you inhale it. I’ve made a bunch of fiberglass/laminate bows from the old Bingham kits. It is fun, but there are serious health risks. Great job on your own tapered lams.
You certainly have all the tools/machinery to make the job quick and easy as possible. I quite like that bow, there’s a lot of fun to be had with that one. I enjoyed the vid too. Thank you.
Its meditative to watch this build. And its neat how this bow goes "twang-ang-ang-ang-ang"
So more evidence that my phone can read my mind. Over the weekend I was messing around in the garage with some scrap wood and in my head was like “I wonder if I could build my own longbow”. Yesterday while sitting in the car at my sons football practice you pop up on RUclips. Yea I’ve got about 3hrs invested in your videos and see myself making a trip to Lowe’s for some wood and a few tools soon 😂.
Thanks for the inspiration and knowledge. Loving the videos.
all of you videos make me want to build a workshop and start making bows. Awesome content!
Video borders on perfection. LOL @ ~ 14:00 is that fiberglass? Do you have a link?
Very nice looking bow
Thank you! Cheers!
I noticed at the 5:31 mark your appear to be measuring the gap between the blade and fence. THis can be done with the other end of the calipers. You set the edge of the caliper on the blade and the part that sticks out as you expand the calipers is also a measuring tool. Just in case you didnt know. good videos by the way
I suggest you invest in some piping bags for cake decoration. Use these disposable bags for epoxy application.
Great Job, as always! Thanks for having us!
Bravissimo 👏
Hey Kramer! Make some proper push-sticks. Don't use a small diameter pointed push-stick (such as a pencil) unless you want it to become a permanent part of your anatomy. (16:10)
Great build, these silent ones are my favorite. I'd love to see you make a Penobscot bow
Super , perfect, awesome work for best briliante bow, bravo and abs. respectful from old BG.
Good stuff, Kramer! Kudos!
I watched the whole thing, Something you can do is use another layer of fiberglass on the outside to make the bow stronger in draw weight.
that was smooth AF 9:14
I used the same process in 1976 to make bows. I am sure you know to increase draw weight use thicker tapers in the core. Thanks for bringing back the fond memories.
Great looking bow, can't wait to see this building technique evolve.
I am really enjoying these videos! I am no expert in bow making, but you seem insanely talented for your age. I truly enjoy watching your work with no other sounds than the tools you use. Thank you!
nice !my favorite youtube channel
Speaking of horseback archers from the Eurasian steppe . . . Scythians! My family has predominantly Scythian blood and I found a man who still makes bows in their tradition with a nice modern touch. Part of that modern touch is his bows are "take down", but not too he common style like you regularly make. Instead of having a riser and two limbs you only have two limbs whereas one in the Middle where you grip it slides into the other and then after being pushed all the way in so that it's flush you wrap it with leather and lace it tight. Most people just shoot them like that but after watching your channel so much I really like the idea of an arrow shelf. Do You know of anybody who makes one that can be like tied or fastined onto the bow somehow? I can see how it would be so easy to do like have a shelf built into the strip of leather that you tie around the middle after sliding the two limbs into each other. I hope I'm describing this in a way that makes sense to you. Anywho if you know of anybody that makes something like that please let me know how to get in touch with them
You can get a little shelf to stick or lash on from eBay or similar made out of various materials but it would be easy to make your own by carving a small scrap of wood.
You are an artist
Hey man I just want to say thank you for all these awesome videos, im just getting into archery and I'm addicted to your videos. I'm going to try my hand at making my first bow. Thanks again
That back pocket quiver is exactly what I need!
I love these long bow builds and watching the bow come together slowly. Great video
Thanks for making these videos! You are awesome Bro!
Great view into the time and work it takes to build a fiberglass and wood laminate bow . I hope to maybe buy one from you one day soon.
Very nice bow. .. free handed freewheeling
This is my favorite asmr video
Good design im sure the next one will be beast mode model
I’m huge fan of laminated bows. And this is a gorgeous bow . I’ll be watching 😉
You should put whiskers on the string so it won't make that ting noise and it will shoot much better and faster.
Your skills are awesome !
Made it all the way. Awesome video Kramer. Exited to see more of these fiberglass builds. Stay shaterproof.
Don't wipe the thinner before glueing, it will bring the resins to the surface, Smooth On may say to do it, but after testing, the bond is actually worse.
such a good video. It was awesome just watching you do your thing and without any talking . 👌🤌
Hey dude love your vids all the way in old blitty (UK), keep up the great work and stay shatterproof ;P
Love your content. Thank you for sharing your know how.
Working on my 3rd long bow, and I pick up stuff from you all the time.
The next will it bow idea. A skateboard. Love the vides keep it up.
I saw some of your other videos. I saw others, too. Fresh cut tree to bow...
Built from chain store dried boards, yours and others.
But who was gonna show me a composite? (layers of different wood).
Then I found this. I don't know (or care, because I don't like the stuff) what the fiberglass was.
I watched right to the end, even rewound several times. Fascinating. Love your channel. Just starting my first board bow.... inspired by you Alex. So exuding to see people doing what they love and doing it so well. The word passionate is so overused these days, but the word certainly seem to apply to you. Thanks for taking the time to make this clip and sharing it with us. Äwesome.
Look at this evolution
Always wanted to start shooting with a traditional recurve bow this looks amazing would be so fun to own something like that 😁
Excellent editing. Well done, Mr Ammons
Keep building bro. Love these long videos
Are you still uploading videos? I just recently found your site and have to say WOW! I am so intrigued I purchased some wood and am going to try my hand at making a bow.
awesome bow dude, shame its not that powerfull I'm looing forward to seeing the high strength one, i like the video without the music btw, prefer hearing you talk more tho going through your thought process
Love you bow making tutorials cheers and greetings from Romania keep up the good work :D
Artist 🎨 👨🎨
it's a beautiful thing. Just started watching your vids, i appreciate what your doing. getting up the nerve to make my first bow. excited .
You can do it!
Wtf that bow is so perfect, it doesn’t look like handmade
You really should wear safety glasses when using the table saw, this is coming from someone who should have had them on. I really enjoy all of your videos.
I just found your channel...Iam subscribed I just ordered the TILLERING GIZMO and the TILLERING STRING... sure am excited to get started on the board bow build...
Put a couple of layers of carbon fiber on the face of the bow. That should bring the poundage up.
Very very nice
Man, that thing is beautiful!
Love your videos man keep them up
Watched the whole way through. Thanks for posting this stuff. You made it to help others get a grip on what you do and inspire them to try it out too. I've seen more than a few of your videos before your name got lost into the RUclips ether. Once I found you again I subbed.
Good work, brother. 👌🏾👍🏾
Stay safe and happy holidays out there. 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
Keep working, love from Pakistan
You go man!
Love you videography!!
Watched every second
This was very relaxing to watch :)
Overkill on the clamps aye
You need a thicker inner wooden core to increase the pondage .
The clip of you writing on the notebook. I def. heard some Taylor Swift.
Ahhhhh silence ! Interesting and great video ! :)
Have you ever heard of using counter top laminate material (Formica) for bow backing? I just heard a guy say he uses it all the time. He said he buys remnants from a cabinet shop cheap. He said it works well with EA 40 epoxy. Yes your new bow can have the same ugly marble pattern as your cheap counter tops.
It's a pretty bow
A good way for r&d is to build the bow with out the Fibreglass, than check the poundage, than glass the bow and check the poundage gain. The glass should add a quite consistent rate of pounds
I love to test a few of your bows
Awesome!
hell ya im hear to the end.. keep it up man.. great job
That bow is a work of art. You’ll have a lot of fun with it I’m sure. I enjoyed the vid. Thank you
My maverick was delivered today! I'm still struggling to get it set up right but I'll get it right eventually haha
Due to Kramer's reviews I bought the OEELINE bow by Ariobow that just came in June-2-2021 at 45 pounds. I am smaller person so that bow fits me better then a bigger bow would, though the bow is not as steady as something bigger would be and the weight right now is a little big for me.
The best name for this channel is "Learn to Bow with Kevin De Bruyne"
hi Krammon.. your videos are inspiring.. keep the good work.. 👍
if you tell us how to make a moulds /jig / frame for making a Bow.. that would be so helpful and what precautions should be taken to make a Bow making frame.🙏🙏🙏
Hey Kramer. Hope you're doing well. Does a person have to use epoxy to glue fibreglass strips onto wood? Is wood glue too weak for that application?
That new build looks like it has a lot of potential, keep going.
Great job brother. I’ll try your stuff out. God bless
I watched it til the end bro
Great work!!!
Really nice one ;) Greetings from overseas
