Thanks for this video. Really helpful! Question; if I AirPlay (1) music from my iOS device to my Apple TV gen3, which links via optical to a DAC (then to amp and speakers), would I be able to get lossless output? Thank You.
Thanks but why do you have to keep switching the setting in MIDI setup? Why can't you just leave it on the highest setting? I do get a very different sound with the Atmos on vs off. Cant decide which I like more. Its off for now.

I have an Iphone XS and several dongle DAC/Amps to go along with it and many open back and closed back headphones with not too high of an impedance and I'm never happy with the music coming out of the phone with my headphones which are the Sennheiser 598, 599, 560's, 569's and many others by different companies , it's never clear and sounds compressed, I'm not an Apple music subscriber but have my Itunes music synced up to my Iphone XS and under audio there is no option for me to select 24 bit 96KHZ or higher which I know my DAC's can do and would like an Lossless audio option for my synced music, may I ask why Apple doesn't have this option under their phones or if they do are they only for Apple music subscribers, I can't understand why I cannot choose my bit depth and sample rate at all, I feel Apple should do this for everyone who owns an Iphone regardless if your an Apple music subscriber it should be under the audio tab for anyone to select their output of audio which my P.C. let's me do.
Im sort of frustrated because i got the dac and have all the cables and finally figured out my macbook is probably too old (2014) and when i do the music preferences it doesnt give me any sound quality options- its half of the stuff yours does
Random question: when I’m playing music through my MacBook’s speakers, will that audio playing be lossless/ hi-res lossless or the default AAC? Same question for the iPhone.
Well, I would love to use the lossless option on Apple Music, but I have bo way to do it. Sure, I can enable the option on my Android Smartphone and plug in some Headphones, but I don't listen to music on my phone. I have nice Speakers at home and I use those for Music, but right now Apple doesn't give me any option to transport the music there. Chronecast Audio doesnt work (only plays AAC) Heos, Musiccast, Sonos, BluSound etc...all either don't offer Apple Music at all or only offer the lossy AAC version, all because Apple doesn't provide an API for 3rd Party Hardware manufacturers to actually use Apple Music. And Apple doesn't offer any kind of Audio only Dongle (like the Chronecast Audio) either, and using an AppleTV isn't an option since I can't actually use that without a Display either. So...🤷♂️

My ipad and iphone ae running ios 14.6. But I dont see the Dolby Atmos or the Lossless Audio options in the settings. A lot of people have complained about this. What can be the reason? Please let me know. A lot of people here think that this is something that Apple have innovated. But it is not so. Dolby Atmos is already running in Samsung phones for a quite some time. My S 20 FE had it ever since it was launched.
It should be pointed out that vintage albums, such as The Beatles, are analog magnetic tape recordings and were not hi-res recordings. Putting these recordings into a bigger bit bucket is pointless as detail lost in the original recording cannot be magically recovered. There are very few true hi-res recordings available and nearly all releases are CD quality which is audibly as good anyway.
What I noticed is that on the iPad says 24bit/192Khz but in the external DAC it shows the 16, I guess it refers to 16bit instead of 24bit transmision. Is that because of an adjustment in the extrnl DAC? Thanks!
If I connect the apple 3.5 to audio cable to my Air Pods Max and connect it directly to the jack on my Mac book would I hear the same quality as I would if I connected a proper wired pair of headphones ? I’m trying to find out if it’s worth be buying a wired pair just for use in my house and keep my AP Max’s for outside.
Hi, I am asking for advice on what is the best format to import my music that is mostly on CDs back into iTunes. In my recent effort to update my iTunes Music folder by organizing all my music by artist, I didn't realize that the song metadata that wasn't consistent in iTunes completely disorganized my efforts when I clicked on both "Consolidate" and "Reorganize" my files. In reviewing my Apple Music folder with all my songs on it, I realized that I had most of my files either in "MP3 audio" some in "AIFF-C audio" and others in "Apple MPEG-4 audio" and even some as "QuickTime movie" files (which I can't figure out how these got in their as audio files). My goal is to get every audio file newly entered into iTunes under the best possible resolution so that (1) my audio collection is including 100% of all my available audio files, (2) these audio files are organized in the best way that suits my need (by artist or author), and (3) it has best possible audio quality that can run on both my mid-2015 MacBook Pro running Mojave (running 10.14.6) and an iPhone 6S (running iOS 15.4.1). I don't plan to upgrade either for the immediate future. I do not have any other Apple devices like an iPad. As I stated above, I recently started updating my iTunes music and did not realize that when I was in iTunes and clicked on "Library" --> "Organize Library" that I was presented with 2 choices ("Consolidate files" and Reorganize files in the folder 'iTunes Music'." In my effort to organize my music on my MacBook Pro in the folder structure by "Artist", I didn't realize that iTunes doesn't organize the folders in reverse. If I'm the last to realize this, I am not surprised. Before I import close to 4000 songs on several hundred CDs and other sources into my iTunes, I would like to start from the beginning so that when I next synchronize my iPhone 6S with my Macbook Pro that the library will be correct across both and that the sound files on my iPhone 6S will be at their best playable level. Thanks for your help.
Hi, I am a happy Apple Music user, with a good pair of IEM (Thieaudio Monarch MKII) and a couple of decent DAC/AMPs (Hidizs S9 Pro, Fiio Q3). I am very happy of my setup, but I am considering another possibility: a DAP capable to play lossless Apple Music (possibly including hi-res), with a good sound quality (possibly even better than my current dac/amps). Do you have any suggestions? Thank you
Wow thanks. This answer my question, because I am planning to buy the Fiio BTR5 for my IPad pro 2020. It's sad that Apple music on my LG V50 doesn't have lossless and I am not sure when or if they will update it.

I find that Apple Music under Settings on my iPad does not have audio quality prompt. Other people are experiencing this as well. What am I doing wrong?
Hi, thanks for the great vids! I've seen a lot of vids saying that using a computer as a streamer introduces a lot of noise to the digital out signal, which apparently seriously compromises the sound quality. Do you have any opinions as to which of an iPad, iPhone, iMac or Mac Mini will give the best, cleanest digital signal to an external DAC. I realise that this probably makes little difference when listening through headphones, but I am connecting my DAC to an 80 watt amp to drive floor-standing speakers.
I'm not sure about that. If you are using an external DAC, the computer should simply be streaming the digital data of the song, unadulterated from the servers holding the stored copy of the song, and all the processing happens in the DAC. Noise should only be an issue once the signal switches over to the analogue form, i.e. within the DAC. If you used the computer's built-in internal DAC, THEN noise from the other computer's components can be an issue. Please correct me anyone if I am mistaken in saying this.
I believe what you are referring to is noisy power over the usb port, where noise in the power is affecting the analog output within the dac after converted. The digital signal between the computer and the dac itself is not affected. Some usb powered dacs have filtering on the power to clean it up, or isolate it. If affected, you can also try plugging into a different usb port.
Hi I have updated ios to 14.6 but I don’t see the audio quality settings was you already a apple music subscriber to see these settings ? that is do I need to subscribe to see these settings I want to do the free trial but only when I can use the settings to get hi res thank you a great video.
Can Fiio BTR5, that is connected to the iPad, be directly connected to the Iphone 12 Pro Max through Lightning-USB C or do you need an additional adapter to have the quality 24-bit/192kHz (highlossless) ?
How does Apple TV compare as a DAC? There is a clear and significant difference when I listen to a song on RUclips and compared with the same song on Apple Music via Apple TV but have no idea if it is in the best resolution possible.
Reportedly Apple TV is limited to 24-bit, 48kHz -- even if connected to an AVR or soundbar that supports a higher bitrate. (Mine should arrive today.) Atmos may actually be the bigger deal on Apple TV, not only for this reason but also because it can take advantage of full home theater Atmos (usually 5.1.2 channels & up, far more than any mobile device).
Are you certain the Apple 3.5mm dongle maxes out at 24/48? The Cirrus Logic DAC used in them supports 24/192. This has been discussed since it was released with iPhone 7.
Apple sells a Lightning to 3.5mm cable (not dongle) which says it’s for connecting AirPods Max to other sources or iOS devices to other speakers. But can we use it to connect Sony’s WH-1000XM4 via 3.5mm jack to lightning port of iPhone and get 24bit/48kHz audio while the XM4 is powered on? If that is possible, a single cable can give lossless (not high-res) for iPhones with the right headphones. Please let me know if anyone can confirm this, if it’s possible! Thank you!
I also use Apple TV, airplaying onto Auralic Mini… onto my HiFi… I get max 24/48… well at least hope so :-) It is neat to have GUI of aTV on my television…
I saw Lucy’s Historian record in the thumbnail and now I’m watching. I only use lossless on my Apple TV through a Denon receiver, but it’s limited to ALAC up to 24-bit/48kHz.
Thanks for the how to! I have been wondering how to turn it on. I needed to go into the Audio Quality setting, that is what I missed the first few times haha, once more thanks. :) I'm no audiophile (even thought I REALLY wish I was) but I like to have the best audio quality I can get my hands on. lol
According to Apple support on lossless apple music You can also use lossless on your ATV4K albeit only cd quality plus a bit via hdmi (aptv3?) and a receiver or maybe one of those NAIM or similar with HDMI i don’t know what the I2s connection or even a cheap hdmi audio extractor can do. I’m not an apple music user and was very cross when itunes didnt sell cd level music and Google stopped and Amazon made it conditional on buying physical media so now i hope Qobuz or Zdigital or HD Tracks survives coz otherwise it’s a dog’s breakfast to find my digital copies (or your word “chunes”).
With this logic, does that mean if I attach a dongle from my iPhone to an aux chord, then straight into my Edifier speakers, would I get lossless audio? I’m trying to find a way to use those speakers to take advantage of Apple Music’s new upgrades

Placebo effect plays a big role, if you know you are listening to the best possible sample and bit rates, then you no longer need to ‘wonder’. No FOMO.
Thanks for this video. Really helpful! Question; if I AirPlay (1) music from my iOS device to my Apple TV gen3, which links via optical to a DAC (then to amp and speakers), would I be able to get lossless output? Thank You.
Sadly I read that you might need TVOS14.6 minimum to enable lossless music on Apple TV 😢
great video as always from my new favourite channel, keep up the amazing work!
Hey thanks for watching and supporting!! 😀
28 months later (seems like another 28 later movie title), Spotify still doesn't support lossless!
Can inbuilt speakers on ipad/iphone play lossless music?
yes the Iphone/ Ipad have a DAC to play lossless through your phones speakers
Thanks for the video!
Between ipad mini 6, ipad 10 or iphone 14, which one do you recommend for listening to hi-res music via wired headphone? Thanks
Really good demo, nicely illustrated with the DAC
My Yamaha ATMOS Amp app plays them as Digital Airplay2, unable to find if it's 192k 24?
If it's High Res, Yamaha will play it!
Thanks but why do you have to keep switching the setting in MIDI setup? Why can't you just leave it on the highest setting? I dont have a DAC for my iMac, but I just leave my audio set to 24 bit 48 and even the songs that are in lower quality still play fine. I dont have to switch it back to 41 or anything. I do get a very different sound with the Atmos on vs off. Cant decide which I like more. Its off for now.
Using a set of non apple bluetooth in ear, and loaded both lossless and non-lossless of the same album and it is very noticeable the difference regardless of the fact its not lossless any longer as it comes out of the bluetooth in ear's..... apples been working some magic.... because it's even different when comparing it to TIDAL (apples better) no idea why
This was really helpful information. Can an Earmen Sparrow connect with an iPhone, iPad and/or Mac?
Im sort of frustrated because i got the dac and have all the cables and finally figured out my macbook is probably too old (2014) and when i do the music preferences it doesnt give me any sound quality options- its half of the stuff yours does
what would be the problem with just setting it to 96khz on the mac and leaving it at that?
It’ll resample everything to 96khz, even 44.1khz
@@AudioFixation Yeah but i’m asking what the drawback would be. what you described sounds like at the least wouldn’t worsen the 44.1khz audio?
Random question: when I’m playing music through my MacBook’s speakers, will that audio playing be lossless/ hi-res lossless or the default AAC? Same question for the iPhone.
Can I connect the DAC to a receiver and still get the desired sound quality? Will it be a RCA Analog In to the receiver?
Well, I would love to use the lossless option on Apple Music, but I have bo way to do it. Sure, I can enable the option on my Android Smartphone and plug in some Headphones, but I don't listen to music on my phone. I have nice Speakers at home and I use those for Music, but right now Apple doesn't give me any option to transport the music there.
Chronecast Audio doesnt work (only plays AAC)
Heos, Musiccast, Sonos, BluSound etc...all either don't offer Apple Music at all or only offer the lossy AAC version, all because Apple doesn't provide an API for 3rd Party Hardware manufacturers to actually use Apple Music. And Apple doesn't offer any kind of Audio only Dongle (like the Chronecast Audio) either, and using an AppleTV isn't an option since I can't actually use that without a Display either.
So...🤷♂️
can i play lossless audio by transfering lossless audio file from my laptop? or i just can play from apple music library? as a newbie i hope you will answer❤️
Hi! Firstly, love your videos. Super clear and helpful. I was wondering if that exact process/setup would work using Amazon Music HD instead of Apple Music? I plan on purchasing the BTR5 with a usb-c to lightning cable. Thanks a lot, cheers!
Sony xm4’s wired sound better?
I’m using iPhone 11 and I want to buy Sony xm 4. They are wireless so only plays aac codec. If I wire them to my phone will I be able to play Apple Lossless through Apple Music? Or Sony xm4 doesn’t support lossless audio through the wire?
Does ipad mini have this function? Because I never had ipad mini before. Planning to get one someday
Thank you so much for this video. I see that samsung has a usbc to 3.5mm dongle which support up to 24bit/192kHz, does it mean i can use it with the lossless Hi-res directly?
Do you have a video of how to get lossless music from Apple or any other provider source, for that matter, through my Denon AV receiver, which has its own DACs? I would like to utilize some very high quality speakers I recently purchased.
My S 20 FE had it ever since it was launched.
can i stream lossless on windows pc? i cant see any information about bitrate on windows itunes
You are so correct!!!
Is it possible to use a iPhone 13 Pro Max on Apple Music to use high res ? Is there dacs with lighting adapters?
In other words, the only way to structure the music in my iTunes "Music" folder is directly through iTunes and clicking on both "Album Info" and "Song Info". Modifications to the iTunes database including deleting an album and/or a song from the iTunes library (and also from the iTunes "Music" folder" into the Trash) are therefore as best I can tell are one-way only, and that being only through iTunes.
Thank you
Could you please provide the link to that playlist? I can’t find it online.
Hey come and join the discord. The links are on there 😀
@@AudioFixation how do I do that? I’ve searched for the playlist and can’t find it.
@@anthonys8254 don’t worry I’ll try and pin it to description
Does the same procedure apply to the Tidal app on iPhone and using an external dac?
How is it that Music app on iPad is 3x faster than the Music app on the newest macOS and hardware.
the macos app sucks. it’s so well designed on iphone and ipad. as you said so much faster too
@@highofftealeaves Yeah, I still use my iPhone 5s with old OS and it runs better than on my M1 MBA. Hope it will be better in macOS Monterey
do u know if the iPhone 6S 3.5 jack supports 24 bits 48 khz? i read in mashable that it supports 24 bits 96 khz without a DAC but idk.
I believe it does.
No, all iPhones only go up 48khz/24bit you need an external dac for anything else higher
@@theayeshaerotica even if it says it’s playing at a higher rate?
Wow thanks. This answer my question, because I am planning to buy the Fiio BTR5 for my IPad pro 2020. It's sad that Apple music on my LG V50 doesn't have lossless and I am not sure when or if they will update it.
Can you somehow connect that DAC to a 2022 Dolby Atmos soundbar? For example the Samsung HW-Q990B. Really curious on this one.
I’m using a Sonos AMP. How do I know if it is actually streaming lossless?
Then we have to set max sample rate in macbook? So it will work in all cases?
Man I can hug you! I was messing around with my BTR5 and Apple Music trying to
Figure out all this and now I know how. Btw, I also noticed the headphone matters a lot. I used multiple IEM balanced hardly noticed much of a difference, then I tied my master dynamic 40s and wow I got lost in lossless lol
I find that Apple Music under Settings on my iPad does not have audio quality prompt. Other people are experiencing this as well. What am I doing wrong?
Sir, so what do you suggest to me to download on Apple Music?
Im using Airpods Pro 2nd gen. Os it better to download the AAC files
Thanks for share. In my iMac with audio setup the max is 48khz 24 bit... with my Macbook Air I have more options. Why?
thanks for the great content, where can I get such device to convert from digital to analog for Hi Res lossless?
Oh sweet lord I've been doing this all wrong. Thanks for the video!
Ain’t getting the Dolby option in settings. Which iOS version are you on?
You have to be on iOS 14.6
Hi I have updated ios to 14.6 but I don’t see the audio quality settings was you already a apple music subscriber to see these settings ? that is do I need to subscribe to see these settings I want to do the free trial but only when I can use the settings to get hi res thank you a great video.
I don’t see the audio quality option under playback tab inspire of updating to latest version of Mac OS ..any idea if I’m missing anything?
How about headphones? Do we need to have a headphone that ranges above 40khz range in order to hear hi-res?
Hi ! Do you mind sending the link for the playlist that you tested? I just subscribed to Apple Music and I couldn't seem to find one.
does the earpods with lightning connector can use lossless audio?
When I look at Apple Music in settings on my iPad 9th gen I do not see all those settings? I am not signed in yet. Do I need to be signed in?
Can you use one of those amps with a vintage stereo? Like a old Marantz or Pioneer stereo receiver?
Can Fiio BTR5, that is connected to the iPad, be directly connected to the Iphone 12 Pro Max through Lightning-USB C or do you need an additional adapter
to have the quality 24-bit/192kHz (highlossless)
?
@@richellebrittain2127 all I know, is that everyone in my family discerns an appreciable difference,
Are you certain the Apple 3.5mm dongle maxes out at 24/48? The Cirrus Logic DAC used in them supports 24/192. This has been discussed since it was released with iPhone 7.
The adapter needs to support the 24k 192.0 stream, any analog headset is!
What dac are you using in this video? is the dac good?
I have bluesound soundbar wifi connected to iPad , is this going to be ok
Apple sells a Lightning to 3.5mm cable (not dongle) which says it’s for connecting AirPods Max to other sources or iOS devices to other speakers. But can we use it to connect Sony’s WH-1000XM4 via 3.5mm jack to lightning port of iPhone and get 24bit/48kHz audio while the XM4 is powered on? If that is possible, a single cable can give lossless (not high-res) for iPhones with the right headphones. Please let me know if anyone can confirm this, if it’s possible! Thank you!
why i dont get the losless text at the bottom of the title song that im currently play, even tho i already turn it on like on this video
is anybody know why in my Music setting there is no DOLBY option and others like ij the video?
mine is iphone 11 pro max and have had ios 16.2
I also use Apple TV, airplaying onto Auralic Mini… onto my HiFi… I get max 24/48… well at least hope so :-) It is neat to have GUI of aTV on my television…
I saw Lucy’s Historian record in the thumbnail and now I’m watching. I only use lossless on my Apple TV through a Denon receiver, but it’s limited to ALAC up to 24-bit/48kHz.
Great album 👍🏾
You need to update the Airplay 2 app in the receiver, you can't do Atmos or 192 24b over HDMi that way! SPdiv?
Yeah, 24/48, but you do get the untouched Dolby Atmos audio stream so you can bitstream the song.
With this logic, does that mean if I attach a dongle from my iPhone to an aux chord, then straight into my Edifier speakers, would I get lossless audio? I’m trying to find a way to use those speakers to take advantage of Apple Music’s new upgrades
I think you’ll need a DAC in between the phone and your speakers to get the most out of it.
Interesting, 24- bit / 44,1 with my Sony wireless. Can that be correct ?
Will lossless work if we AirPlay on our smart tv?
No
Yes, I think so at 24/48. It won’t be hirez but it will be lossless.
What about hires bluethoot headphones? Can't we hear lossless with it?
How to connect btr5 with iphone, i am uaing apple charging cable but its not working
Apple TV with Dolby Atmos music played through an Atmos capable sound system is god tier
what did you meant, you need HDMi 2.1 to support it!
Would this work with a fiio k5 pro dac/amp to my MacBook Air with Apple Music headphones are wired beyerdynamic dt990 pro 250 ohms
I like it on hi res audio. I have Sony Mobile ES speakers in my car that takes advantage of it
Does AptX support to transfer Lossless to my headphones?
You can’t use Apt-X on iPhone, it only supports AAC
I have a USB-C dac capable of 24bit 384khz. Why is the ipad stuck at 48khz?
I've been chrome casting Apple music to my Xiaomi android tv box from my android phone. Magic!!
