Wii has higher poly characters and environments, better textures, better lighting, reflections, widescreen, anti-aliasing, progressive scan, and Sonic's quills for some reason aren't animated on PS2. Wii obviously was the lead platform for this game then was downgraded for PS2.
The PS2 version does have progressive scan for the NTSC release, but not widescreen. It seems to me that they made the game with motion controls in mind, most notably the Werehog combat in the night stages. You use both the Wii Remote and Nunchuck to switch between left and right handed attacks, but on PS2, they are done with a single button, which is much less intuitive. It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but I find that the motion controls really add to the way the combat operates in the Wii version. Also, with the PS2 version only being in 4:3, cutscenes are letterboxed to fit within the aspect ratio. When watching, you can tell they were made with 16:9 in mind. As for the gameplay, it’s still playable on PS2, but it felt like they had to capitalise on the console’s continuing success in the market around that time. Regardless, it just seemed unnecessary. They really should’ve focussed on just the Wii to further improve optimisation.
