      Did you see the special feature of the Second Sight disc? I think his last name was Dugan. He breaks down when recalling the hell Marilyn Burns was put through. The ending with her may not be far from real with how relieved/crazy she was.

    I saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre back in the early 80's on CED in my college dorm. I never wanted to watch it again because it freaked me out like no movie ever has. That documentary style really hit home and the meathook scene was horrifying. I sat through the whole thing, but it felt too real for me to ever want to see it again.

    Great video Jeff. My dad took me to King Kong in 1976… I was 4. Orca the Killer whale when I was 5 and my grandma took me to jaws 2 when I was 6. I always loved scary movies. I was born in 1972 and I remember being very small hearing my parent’s friends coming over and saying they saw the scariest movie ever and it was a true story. Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I finally saw it when I was 10. So glad to have the 4K disc now. Nice work on this video. Loved it.

    Without The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) we don't get The Hills Have Eyes (1977), Alien (1979) and A House Of A Thousand Corpses (2003). It really had an impact beyond the horror genre itself.

    The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is
    one of those movies that benefits greatly from the lower quality (shot in 16mm).
    It’s a true trailblazer for the statement less is more, also the limited gore helps, I think modern film makers could take a few notes from films like Chainsaw or even Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.

    • @edreid7872
      @edreid7872 28 дней назад

      I recall reading there is no outright violence and gore..The gritty nature and tension make you believe it's like a Saw movie.. The same element in Psycho..That's great storytelling..

      Tbh, most horror benefits from lower quality. 4K just highlights how dodgy they were haha.

    The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is one of my all-time favorite horror films. First saw it back when I was 15 on a friends VHS copy and it scared the hell out of me. One of the most disturbing films I had seen up to that time. Probably the only film I own on Blu-ray that I actually prefer how it looks on VHS. The vibe of the film is so gritty, that, for me, it just plays so much better on grainy VHS.

    Excellent video/podcast! I love The Texas Chain Saw Masaacre! It’s one of my favorite movies! And sorry to be that guy, but it’s actually the Pam character in that iconic shot starting from the swing, all the way up to the house. I always felt that Leatherface was swinging his chainsaw around at the end out of frustration for not getting the final person in this group who invaded his homestead, not out of glee for chasing her away. But that’s an interesting take!

      @@JeffRauseo, true, but she made him have to run after her, he got hit in the head with a wrench, causing him to cut himself with his own chainsaw, and then she gets away. So I could see his reaction being born out of either feeling-frustration for not killing this source of all these problems, or joy for her being out of his life. It’s cool that it can be interpreted in more than one way, though..for sure!

    I love TCM. There's few other movies that really capture a sense of decay like the original film does. I think the film is an important piece of art because it shows at least as far back in the 70s, Americans were afraid of these dying, one industry towns and what would happen to the people left behind. There's so much emphasis placed on the Sawyer family and Newt, Texas, that it feels overlooked that there's likely towns with families like this littering America in the world of TCM.

    That's an interesting take on the ending. I always thought Leatherface was upset Sally got away and that's why he was swinging the chainsaw having a tantrum. Watched it dozens of times and never thought he was happy.

    Tobe and everyone got absolutely screwed on the financial end of the movie. They used Bryanston pictures to distribute the film (the mob) and then got told the movie barely made any profit. They settled for like half a million dollars years down the road. The actors made pennies

    Never been one I’ve got on with. From seeing it years ago and again more recently, always thought the word massacre was an exaggeration and yeh, the lack of gore, was just a miss for me. The main scene I found the most disturbing was putting the hammer in the old guys hand and it falling and hitting the girl in the head. I found that more grim than anything else, perhaps due to its calm and slow nature made it more macabre
