Finally Presonus is recognizing you guys as a valuable resource for checking out and reviewing new products. With all their products you use, it’s about time! I’m looking forward to the comparison videos. I use JBL SRX speakers but I’m interested in the CDL line. I’m curious about the difference in the subs. Whenever I post I always like to say thank you for your videos. Thanks again.
Always good to hear from you Harlan....yes, we plan on doing a comparison of each cabinet. We probably won't focus too much on the 18s sub as a comparison since it's no longer offered.
Concerning the weight and handiness of the 18” sub I can highly recommend the EV ETX 18SP. They are equipped with 4 blue wheels and they are packed in the package that way that you just have to open the packaging on the side and can roll the sub out of its package - this is really well designed
Your videos put Presonus PA systems on the map for me, I had never heard of their PA range before, but I use Studio One since V2 and one of their interfaces. Presonus owe you big time! That demo kit is well deserved and I hope they'll keep sending you more! I'll probably go the Turbosound route for PA, mainly because I'm in China, prices are inflated here and product availability is different. But as a mainly a studio guy, I'm learning a lot from your videos on top of them being entertaining! Keep the videos coming and do watch your backs!
I dig the smaller size. Would make a great addition especially for outdoor wedding receptions, right? I can also imagine for them to be perfect as front fills on larger stages. Can't wait to see where you bring them. Thank's for sharing!
You are spot on Tino! We will be using them in exactly those situations! The subs we believe are going to be a beast of their own...we anticipate that we will be able to use these as singles in situations we may have went with a double with our existing subs.
Congratulations on your new equipment. We are using Das Event 210a and we are examining lightweight, 6 or 8" speakers for some small events. We are waiting for your comments about the new equipment. Greetings from Turkiye...
Agreed...a horn load cabinet would likely throw further will all else being the same. That said, we have experienced some amazing results with our CDL12's long throw coverage, but the environment and event is always a factor with any cabinet.
Time to order some new "undercovers" for the new tops! And Presonus haven't stolen/included your patented slope top!! Need to add the wheels ... are the slots in the top of the base suitable for putting the wheels in from another sub?
That's a lot to take in! For now, we are taking it a step at time...The drink sliders would be a cool thing to incorporate...How about a combo speaker cover/drink slider? hmmmmm
No network capability? It also looks like they changed from original Neutrik Powercon to an off-label one. And I would love a more in depth exploration of the CDL10P and compare them to your CDL12. Same for the subs. I live in the d&b audiotechnik world so anything different from that is always nice to explore.
Thank you for your comment...noted and we will look into that. Only the original CDL "non P' series has networking/Dante with DSP controlled by Worx Control software. The P's DSP is controlled on the back of each speaker.
Hey, any more in-depth information is welcome! And didn't you hint to these speakers in the "unboxing video" of your towers? I am not that active anymore and in a different branche of sound reinforcement with totally different strategies and way of getting things done but I always appreciate your videos. And if any of my comments are a bit short or not as polite sounding: Beginning of arthritis and arthroses in my hands sometimes just want me tkeep my comments as short as possible. That plus auto correct and RUclips comments freezing up. Keep your videos coming! Groeten vanuit 's-Hertogenbosch The Netherlands. Try saying that!
Yes we do...but I am a beta tester as well so over the years, I have found some things before it hits you guys! I know there has been some frustrating issues over the years, but I can honestly say our system is running better than ever. I know some get concerned about upgrading firmware, but we have been running what's now available to the public for a few months and I would update without hesitation, especially if you are experiencing issues.
Not something we noticed, but now that you point it out...It's probably just the orientation to what fits within the space allowed in the back. Our original CDL's are the same way....Interesting observation!
I really like your content, I really like that you are helping those who are interested in the sound and lighting business. I have been considering these speakers, especially for live band performances. I used to live in the Twin Cities until about a year ago when I moved to Massachusetts. I also own a small Sound and Lighting company here on the East Coast What advice would you give to someone trying to build more clientele. What resources have you guys used to grow your business, especially when you were starting from the ground up? I see you guys are always on the road. Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks a lot for all you do. 🙂
Thank you for your comment...At our target client level perspective, we see two basic approaches. Go after the event or work for the band. Our model has been working with the bands in need...The money may not be like the event money, but the work is there. As you can see, we have low operating costs to keep our cost down so the bands can afford us and we still make money. Then it spins around from there and can lead to getting "events". Per band recommendations, we are in the process of trying to secure a couple of "events" for this year. Finally, our location is primed for live music...go a couple hundred miles in any direction from us, the market changes and we see more sound people working for the event because there just isn't as many bands that need sound. Out there, you will also find more bands running their own sound. Our band clients are typically working with higher budgets and can afford to offload production. Hope this helps!
For internet we have an AT&T Netgear hotspot. If we’re doing a wedding in a remote area where we know we’ll have to stream, we will try and download it before hand.
@@thesoundcouple I attach my question to this. :) First, thanks for all your videos. I play bass in a group, and we normally have small venues 100-200 people. Both external or internall. I'm thinking to AIR 15 with 1 Sub Air 18.. but looking at this video I was wondering if a set with 1 CDL 10 each side and 1 CDL sub 18 in the center could be better.. The "P" series DSP settings are managed from the back of the speaker. The original CDL's, which we have, are managed via Worx Control software, which does require a wired Ethernet connection.

Hi Bart & Stacy, thanks for sharing your videos. I have a question. Currently I am playing as a duo in Bars, Clubs, Private parties, Weddings and so on. I am using PreSonus AB1818 audio interface as my mixer since 2013 and still happy with the sound. And using HK Actor Subs 15", was using HK actor top (since 2004) and now changed to Line 6 L2M for top speakers since 2018 as they are lighters than HK top. It sounds pretty good. But now thinking of replacing my HK subs with PreSonus AIR18S 1200W Active 18". At the moment I cannot afford PreSonus CDL18s. Do you think it's a good idea? Our biggest crowds are probably between 100 to 150? I am thinking I need 18" sub to give us a deeper sub better than 15". Thanks in advanced. Cheers, Elia.
You don't mention the type of music or instrumentation, but assuming you are a duo of vocals, guitar, and maybe keys of mainstream music...in just my opinion, you won't really hear the benefit an 18" sub for the gigs you do. A bigger sub is more suited for bands with drums or for DJ's. There would be nothing wrong with the 18", but I would spend that money somewhere else first.
@@thesoundcouple Thank you for your reply. Sorry for not mentioning the details. Me and my female singer both sing. I play the guitar and I am using MDI file tracks with full band sound just like a band with drums brass and everything else and I took the guitar track out so I can play the rhythm and solo. At some venues we have to pump it out which I thought 18" sub will be beneficial to have. My 15 HK sub gave me a good punch but I believe 18" would be even better and deeper? I haven't seen any Presonus Sub around here and thought you will be the perfect person to ask. We play songs like Living On A Prayer, Jessie's Girl, Man I Feel Like A Woman, Love Shack and so son with full band sound. Hope that helps?😊
In theory...yes the 18" would provide more and deeper output...I would expect improvement, but you need to keep in mind that the system and mix needs to remain balanced. If your low end is lacking and your mains have headroom to spare, it's something that would make sense to consider. If your mains are nearing max output, adding a larger sub isn't a great move.@@MysticalGrooveDuo
@@thesoundcouple Thank you for your information. Yeah I kinda get what you're saying. I am happy with my mix. I guess someday if I can compare between those 2 subs (HK and Presonus) I will be able to decide what to do. Once again thank you for you time Bart. Much appreciated. 🙏

Yall definitely aren't The Acting Couple lol. Looking forward to seeing how they compare to the 12s, and if the price savings is worth the potential lower performance.
We know! We were just winging it and this is what came out! Gotta at least try to have a little fun, and if comes at the expense of ourselves...that's ok too! More to your serious point is a message we have shared in videos and that is to get the right gear for the application. We should not get upset or think less of a piece of gear that underperforms because expectations are not within range of its design. We have said that with our CDL12's....these are compact speakers and the laws of physics will come into play if a couple of them are expected to immerse a large hall with full sound. We don't really see the CDL10P's as competition for the CDL12's...they are a smaller cabinet with a smaller woofer, etc...we don't expect them to perform as the CDL12 and take over that role. We plan on using them for the applications that we can get by with a bit smaller cabinet and still get the job done. In my initial testing, I am pleased with the sound, but they do sound different than our 12's. The CDL's 10P's will likely have better results in conjunction with a subwoofer supporting it. So just want to add a thank you to your comment...we will keep it mind, but will compare as they are and not a competition with each other.
@@thesoundcouple I guess I could've worded it better. The price difference isn't really that significant in the grand scheme of things, so I'm curious if it's worth just dropping the extra couple hundred on the 12s to have the extra headroom. I get the whole gear for the job thing, I have a few LD Systems column arrays and while I can easily scale my Curv 500 setup down to small meeting space, I picked up a Maui 5 Go to run for those instead (plus B&H had a killer sale on them a while back) I've been eyeing the CDL12ps for a while, pretty sure it's how I stumbled on your channel to begin with. If I can lock in the same graduation gigs I had last year they'll be in budget, but seeing the 10s pop up on sweetwater kinda threw a wrench in the decision

Well...not quite. We aren't sponsored or endorsed...but a give away would always be nice! In fact, that's what really locked us in the PreSonus some years ago when I was a grand prize winner of a new RM mixer!
Taking your comment in good fun...but we take our channel seriously. It's obvious that we like and use PreSonus gear, but we are not fanboys. Over our hundreds of videos, we have shared the ups and downs of gigs and equipment and we tell like it is. That said, we will not jump on the hyper-react the good and bad either. If these speakers aren't cutting it...we have the boxes to send them back in. However, PreSonus is making a calculated move in letting us kick the tires on these...but yes, the odds are in their favor as unless they totally F'd something up, we should expect at least equal to what we got. We will share our thoughts and likely they will be good. Doesn't mean there aren't other or better choices for us or others, but our goal is to the word out there and talk about them....but we would never tell anyone that you have to buy these speakers.

What are your thoughts on how they sound?

Hi Sound couple can the CDL10s hold on the bottom of the CDL12s in a line array setup....??????
We are fairly certain that is not possible. With the "P" series, the 10's are 19.7" wide and the 12's are 20.7" wide...
I can stack them by myself. Partly why I opted for these instead thr CDL12/12P!
The weight is definitely a consideration so yeah, being able to handle your gear is as important!
Wow! How much can each cost & how will I get them?
