    Absolutely spot on! Clear, concise and insightful. I’m impressed by the breath and width of her understanding of global politics and her ability to articulate each situation in plain impartial English. This is coming from an American veteran who has lived abroad for most of my adult life. I’ve observed firsthand the effects of American foreign policy. One question that I would love to hear her take on is “ given the nature of American politics, 4 -8 year presidential terms and midterms every 2 years how effective or ineffective is this cycle on the influence over the Military Industrial Complex, the real and only profiteers of war?

      @tjk9263 2 года назад +3

      The decision to invade Afghanistan you could make a case for. Usama Bin Ladin was there along with his training camps and thousands of Al-Qeda soldiers. But deciding to attack Iraq was irresponsible, short sighted, illegal under international law and a war crime. Experts of the Middle East knew that Bush Jr deciding to attack Iraq was going to ignite a secular Civil War. Yes Saddam was a brutal dictator and killed thousands of his own people but he made sure Shia and Sunni Muslims lived peacefully together. Our standing in the world has been destroyed for ever and we may never gain the trust of our allies ever again.

    • @amorosogombe9650
      @amorosogombe9650 2 года назад

      @@tjk9263 The one good thing about Afghanistan and Iraq is that now both the US and UK governments will have a very difficult time trying to persuade their people, legislatures and the international community about the case for a war of choice ever again. This will be rubbed in their faces over and over again, especially by their opposition parties at home. They have lost the moral authority to unilaterally wage wars of choice and that's a really good thing for world peace.

That and trivializing America's involvement in West-centric alliances. But don't forget, other free nations are also going down that rathole of identity politics too. We as a country should lead the way in breaking down these barriers.

    • @agaragar21
      @agaragar21 2 года назад

      Actually Dude, the root of all evil is Gestational Brain Damage and the resulting Impulsivity and poor Rational thinking that occurs for those humans for whom this occurs
      These damaged brains need everything NOW !....Food, Sex, Fighting, (Trump) while other,undamaged humans can understand the consequences of current actions on the future (Obama)
      That's the problem with humanity.....Poor "Executive Functions" leads to Rape, Murder, Theft and the general inability to follow Rules to achieve Goals in the Future
      See everybody who is currently in Prison, has addiction issues, is homeless and destitute, or is a Neo-Nazi, and doesn't exercise or brush their teeth !
      This Main PROBLEM of Humanity has already been figured out by scientists....its not a mystery ...the stress caused to your mother when you were in her belly
      leads to YOU becoming a LOSER, thru Epigenetics ....the tribalism is just a result of chronic failure and problems regulating emotions that follow these injured souls

  • @charlesreesink7850
    @charlesreesink7850 2 года назад +4

    Thank you for this.
    - As a French expat, I will suggest that this myth Ms. Sky is referring to, originates in a 1840 work first published in Paris and soon in 24 languages: Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville, 1805-1859.
    - Much has been hailed about this sociological masterpiece, at one cost now perceived as major: the absence of history in the disregard this vision of America as being the city on the democratic hill would have, as part of her white man's burden to pick up the mission of transmitting 'democracy' to the four corners of the world": The Democratic Imperative - Exporting the American Revolution, Gregory Fossedal, de tocqueville institution, Palo Alto, CA. 1980.
    Let us not forget that the US were twice dragged into world wars by France against Germany.
    It so happens that a German publicist, Heinrich Heine based in Paris could inform and possibly alert the Tout Paris about religions and philosophies across the Rhine, which had not been part of the North Atlantic-based economic expansion of France, Great Britain and others, and had not even reached national unity, once the dynasties in power in Berlin (Prussia and the Hohenzollern), Munich (the Wittelsbach, Catholics), Wurtemberg, Westphalia and so many duchies from earlier times, which only awaited Otto von Bismarck and his Realpolitik to unify Germany as Europe knew it from 1871 until 1960, when the Berlin Wall was erected, splitting Germany in two.
    Those same religions and philosophies Heine warned against, and he was not alone in his efforts, became the object of another inquiry - this time in Central Asia (Persia, as it was known) in particular.
    - One cannot but observe the coincidences...and possible clues to rapprochement, clues which may well offer when used, hope to see diplomacy avoid scrambling into mad policy its anagram.
    Russia, the U.S. France, Germany, China even and the Islamic Republic of Iran are 'republics' - with 'Presidents' - some of whom do elect a constitutional clause securing their powers reconducted until death. Nonetheless, the republican common denominator may play into favor; as for the double plural invoked by both Heine and Gobineau - Tocqueville's lifelong correspondant, research assistant and friend, they in their reiteration stand up in force against monolithic 'democracy', in America or elsewhere.
    Second, the presumptive indicative present of democracy universal as ultimate gospel, shibboleth and anything else, was bound to react incoherently to challenges from regions, continents on earth which have been sedentary for millenia, and the US has no memory of such anthropologies as may have survived the sociological onslaught.

    When you think about how many brilliant, insightful, reasoned people there are in the world like Emma Sky and juxtapose them against those who generally becomes Presidents and power brokers, it is a shocking gap. Where are the Emma Skys in the room when we need them? Can we give her citizenship and elect her tomorrow?

    Interesting how she gets animated when talking about Obama ... And no mention of Biden's total failure in pulling out of Afghanistan. But beyond that, as a soldier that was deployed a few times in Afghanistan and Iraq, I find her interview carefully measured or orchestrated with her own political spin. Her credibility is low, but I'm sure she'll be praised.

      The historical irony that Britain, imposing tax on tea to pay for it's war with France, sparks a revolution in America which now has a debt of $29 trillion. As far as I'm aware, it was the Vietnam war that caused Nixon to break with the gold standard and Bretton Woods. I think Bush actually cut taxes while waging the "war on terror" - US democracy appears disfunctional.

    This will leave you speechless, in awe of how wonderful it is:
    Promises are made by a king or 'governor' who not only has the power to fulfill those promises, but has the desire to fulfill them, according to Isaiah 9: 6, which says:
    "Because a child has been born to us, a son has been given to us; and the government will be in his hands. He will be called by his name Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace."
    His kingdom will never be defeated or replaced, according to Daniel 2:44, which says:
    "In the days of those kings, the God of heaven will establish a kingdom that will never be destroyed or passed into the hands of any other people. This kingdom will shatter and put an end to all those kingdoms, and will be the only one that will remain forever. . "
    Unmatched, right? Well, there are more blessings ...

    While the lady refers to what has become the general consensus or history it becomes a chore to distinguish between the various national and political bias' in her viewpoint, from an objective or American point of view. We all have a bias or point of view, and it doesn't have to be political, foreign, or one sided, even if that point of view is American. PBS and Frontline would do much better re-evaluating their own point of view.

    America is so overtly shallow in its culture and in its narrow responses to perceived dangers, its no surprise our nation is collapsing. A culture with no sense of community or responsibility to its neighbors is a culture that cannot survive. We are simply incapable of looking in the mirror in any productive sense. The conversation we need to have will simply not take place. We will deny it. And have for a very long time.

    So, one thing I do remember from 9/11. The twin towers had a combined occupancy of roughly 55,000 people. But, only 3,000 people were at work that day. You are trying to tell me that only 1,500 people were in a building that held 25,000... The only question I honestly have, is where were the rest of the employees who worked there? How and why did they stay away?
