    Hello! Please do a quick video on how to record a mic with zero latency, with the routing in total mix, using delay or reverb! I´ve not seen this option in your other (some very long) tutorials.

    What is the point of doing all that setup in TotalMix FX rather than just doing the routing in the DAW? Seems like an extra step but I'm sure I'm missing something?

    • @RMEAudio
      @RMEAudio  4 года назад

      Because if you route through your DAW you have latency. If you route direct (direct monitoring) you have no latency, the audio stays "ïnside" 'the interface. But you can choose; TotalMix FX has also a DAW mode, so you route everything in your DAW. Direct monitoring is not possible in DAW mode. ruclips.net/video/KYheMTswSaY/видео.html

It seems that its automatically set up to goto my 'Software out/computer sounds' on total mix, which is great, but I would like to understand how? I understand all the other routing pretty well, but how does it know this, I can't seem to track this down. Hope someone can enlighten me please?

    Hello i would like to connect an external compressor (Tube-tech CL 1B) directly to the Babyface Pro Fs. Is this possible or i need a preamp? Could you please provide instructions how i can do this (im a newbe). It would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

    • @RMEAudio
      @RMEAudio  4 года назад +1

      You have to go from a line output to the input of the compressor and from this again to an input of the Babyface. You can also use the headphone output of your Babyface as line output. In any case you will lose one output (XLR or Phones) to use your compressor, because the Babyface has only 4 analog outputs, and you need 2 for monitoring.

    • @RMEAudio
      @RMEAudio  4 года назад +2

      An RME Interface does not have a usual mic preamp. It uses a fully transparent input buffer which has the added bonus of adjusting its gain. Bypassing it would bring zero advantage, the circuit is needed as input buffer anyway. So set it to minimum gain and you can use any external preamp to colour your sound.

    Hello, I purchased the RME Babyface Pro Fs and the popular Shure SM7B Dynamic mic.
    I have a question. In Total Mix Fx when i click the gear wrench icon on the mic input I have to push the Mic gain to 50+ in order to get decent sound out of it. Is this normal? Also if i push it to 60 it picks up lots of background noise... The reason i ask is because I also have a condenser mic where the gain sounds great at 30 db.
    Just wondering if I am doing something incorrectly or if with the Shure SM7B the input gain is supposed to be around 5--60db on the Babyface preamp?
    Thank you

    • @RMEAudio
      @RMEAudio  3 года назад +1

      The SM7 is "famous" for his need of hi gain. You need really to be close to the microphone to get a descend volume and low noise. This is most of the time not necessary with a condenser Mic.

      @@darkod4772 It doesn't matter where you amplify the input signal, before you go in the Babyface, or in the Babyface itself. The noise will stay if the audio input signal is to low. The Babyface has enough gain range for a SM7 IMHO.

      @@RMEAudio Thanks for the adequate reply, really loving RME support so far! My experience with my synths (e.g. prophet 6) is that the input signal is quite low into my fireface (volume max on synth, +4db setting on input) so clipping is not a problem: but how to raise the volume level? is it ok to slide the sliders in totalmix up way above unity gain, or maybe better to use a gain plugin in my DAW and leave the totalmix slider at unity gain? Thanks!

      @@RMEAudio ..but you can bring the fader in totalmix all the way up to the top as long as you aren't clipping in your DAW?

    • @RMEAudio

      @@davek6989 The fader is independent to your DAW level. Only the input gain influences the input in your DAW. The fader is just to set the level for you monitoring or send the signal to an output.

    I so wish I could use my babyface without this trainwreck bit of software. Its only function is to occasionally reset so I have to spend ages remembering how to get a simple sound out. It does nothing but get in the way and frustrate

    RME makes something wrong, when we need a tutorial for recording. totalmix is NOT intuitive.
