Hyundai Santa Fe 2014 Map Reader Lights Fix Diode Replacement

- One of my front map reader lights in my Hyundai Santa Fe 2014 didn't turn on when the door opened, despite the fact that the bulb still worked when the light was turned on manually. This is due to a bad diode in the module. I filmed the process of diagnosing the problem and swapping out the bad diode for a new one.
I found the following forum extremely helpful to troubleshoot this problem: www.hyundai-forums.com/thread...

That is by far the best repair videohat I have ever watched. Thank you very much.
Excellent Video. Thanks for the link to get diagrams. Perfectly done.
I love you. I have the exact same model, same year. I've had this problem for years. I love you.
OMG! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
This video is literally my wish come true!
I have a pristine 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited with only 13,000 miles on it. Through much care & effort on my part, it still looks and runs as though it were brand new. My only disappointment has been that my map lights are no longer triggered on when my car doors open. I used to absolutely LOVE that, when my doors were opened, the map lights would come on automatically and then slowly fade off a few minutes later. After doing some research several years ago, I read that the problem was a faulty diode, replaceable for mere pennies.
I'm an older woman, but I've soldered before and knew the fix would involve removing the map light module, but I was intimidated because there were no videos or photos available showing the actual procedure or location of the diodes (in the case of my car, a single diode).
After years of scouring online, today I was so incredibly fortunate to discover your fabulous video! I cannot thank you enough for your efforts in making this video and sharing it with the rest of us. Your presentation was intelligent, detailed, articulate, and comprehensive. You answered absolutely every question I've had. Also, the camera work is so clear and focused and well done. This is the best video I have ever seen anywhere on any subject, which is all the more impressive given its very technical subject matter.
Thanks to you I can now confidently tackle this map light fix that I have been dreaming of executing for years! You are clearly super intelligent and you are also super considerate and generous for sharing your knowledge and expertise with the rest of us. I'm so excited to finally be able to complete this repair. I will be eternally sending you blessings & good vibes for making and posting this video, and making my wish come true. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!
Finally a great video on how to fix something. This was exactly my problem with my lights. Thanks
My Santa Fe was doing the same. Followed the video and now fixed. Awesome.
Was looking for some explanation as to how to remove the dome headlight assembly. This will help me a lot, and will avoid breaking the assembly.
One note, as far as the Russian wiring diagram, it actually does not show the diodes (this wiring diagram is not correct as compared to the Hyundai wiring diagram). What you are pointing to as diodes are the actual switches of the Map Lights.
However, for this diode fix explanation, it really doesn’t matter.
BTW, the function of the diodes are to turn on BOTH Map Lights when the ‘Door Function ’ is activated - or Mode Switch is set to On - independent of the left/right Map Light Switches On/Off position.
My lights are not working at all so i am not sure if its the diodes yet. Weirdly enough though, one of the lights came on today and i could hear a slight buzzing noise, after a few miles it stopped and the light failed again, so i am thinking it may be the switch. However, thank you for this video!!!😊 it helps a great deal just for removing the dome itself.
Thanks a lot, u save my dome light
Brilliant video, exactly what I was looking for... thank you for taking the time and effort to explain this repair process. I will be doing the repair myself once the new diodes arrive.
For reference in the future the push button switches you removed before soldering are a C&K product...PS12G01. I've tried to get a replacement one for mine but with import duty and shipping its not viable, companies in UK and Europe will only supply 200....😁
Awesome video! Very well explanation and detail, going to repair mine tomorrow, same exact problem. Thank you so much.
I did this and it fixed the map lights perfectly. But what about the cabin light?
Thank you!!
Had the very same problem with my 2014 first time I put a new diode in the second time I bought a LED bulb to fit it and because it takes less power draw I did not have to do anything other than to replace the bulb with an LED bulb works perfect
Hi mate, I'm no electrical expert, but with the position of the diodes, if they're blown how does the light still work in manual mode. Wouldnt a bad diode stop the light from turning on at all?
One of my lights isn't working at all, even after bulb replacement. Just want to see if it's the same issue.
Thanks in advance.
When the specific (left or right) Map Light Switch is activated, that light should turn on independent of the diodes.
The function of the diodes are to turn on both Map Lights when the ‘Door Function ’ is activated - or Mode Switch is set to On - independent of the left/right Map Light Switches On/Off position.
If the lightbulbs are good, it might be that you have a bad (left or right) Map Light Switch.
If the two lights come on when set to Door - or Mode Switch set to Dome On -, then the diodes and bulbs are good. If one still fails, then another circuit issue is present.
Swapping bulbs will enable you to determine that both bulbs are functioning correctly.
