My engagement ring is $2.70 and I'm very glad how much we saved by not conforming to other's expectations. :) ultimately it is meaningful because our values align and it showed through the ring

i feel like it's my wedding = my rules. if in laws or parents want to foot the bill, then they can have a say. no paying = no input.

During our wedding my parents friends were very generous and helped us reach break even. So parents friends can be a blessing too!

Why would you invite 1000 pax to your wedding just to tell people that S/he belongs to you….? If your spouse wants cheat, who cares about backing off? Don’t do things during a wedding because of others. Do it for yourself/spouse.

It’s more of like a formal announcement especially for the older generation around us! Suryan was sharing how it typically is for a Malay-Muslim wedding - let’s keep an open mind and respect each others’ cultures ya 🫶

Amanda is absolutely spot on that a marriage is not just a 2 person ordeal. It’s about 2 families coming together and a family celebration. Definitely experienced. IMHO Renae’s opinion on not wanting to invite your parent’s friends is just selfish. I think you can discuss the number of guests your parents can have there but it’s selfish to outright say no.

i beg to differ - the wedding after all is between the bride and groom, it's their day. parents are celebrating for their children (and joining in the celebration). would say most modern / open minded families would let their children do it the way they want and what makes them happiest. we no longer live in a time where we have to do everything the way our parents want and put their happiness before ours.

The thing is right what if majority of the family might not even know the parent's friend and then the wedding might end up so awkward which is definitely NOT ideal for a wedding yk !!
