Video suggestion: (Soft) Skills Tier List
Love your vids, BR Marty
Love it :) Have added it to my ideas list. Thank you Marty! Best, Heinrich
Sehr interessanter Video. Danke!
"Mücken" ist vermutlich ein Fehler / was genau meinst du was hier helfen würde? :) LG! Heinrich
That was a nice video, Heinrich!
Despite the channel being focused on the first years of a consultant's career, another good perspective would be your role as Project Lead. What did change? How did you manage a wider span of control? How this changed once you assumed a c-level position?
Cheers!
Hi Matheus, thanks for your feedback and watching the video! Yes indeed this is a great content suggestion. Have topics like this already on my ideas list - stay tuned :) Best! Heinrich
Hey Heinrich, thanks a lot for you continuous dedication! As I recently watched your video on the mba program, I was curious, if you could speak about the topic PhD vs. MBA in consulting? I am currently pursuing my PhD in finance and was also thinking about an MBA next to my job in the future :)
Cheers Daniel
Hi Daniel, thanks for your comment! In general my opinion is that having both the MBA and PhD is not required for your career, especially in Germany. It is more a fun little thing to do and learn from, probably more for your personal development :) But interesting topic, might pick this up in a future video! Best, Heinrich
Great "Format"! 😀👍
Thanks, glad you like it! :) Best, Heinrich
Nice video in terms of content and quality. All the best 👍💯
Super happy to hear that - thanks for your comment Pranit! Best, Heinrich
Very interesting insights and great opportunities. Thanks for sharing!
Happy to hear that Dominic, thanks for watching! Best, Heinrich
Thanks Heinrich!!
Thank YOU for watching and your support Anas! :) Best, Heinrich
Seems pretty down to earth
Yes had the same impression. From what I saw in the Munich office, great team and cool office vibes! Best, Heinrich
Really insightful video!
Thanks Nicoleta, great to hear that! :) Best, Heinrich
Despite the difficult overall situation, a very interesting insight. Very likeable team @inverto
Had the same impression when visiting them :) Thanks for watching Lennard! Best, Heinrich
Great video, Heinrich. Not many channels show the day-in-the-life of a partner. Obviously, he must speak broadly about what he is working on due to confidentiality. 3 observations I noticed: 1) Lars shares an office as Managing Director??? 2) His desk is very spartan. 3) Everyone is dressed very casually (COVID??). Thanks
Thanks for watching, great observations!
1) Did not really notice that when we were filming, at least nobody else was in his office when I were there. Though also at McK it is not unusual to have Partners sharing an office (depending on how large the office is), therefore yes he might share his office.
2) Also not uncommon, in many firms there are also "clean desk" policies where you are supposed to completely clean out your desk in the evening ;)
3) Yes, that's also quite common / experienced it at McK like this as well. Though there might be regional differences, e.g., in Berlin consultants dressed much (!) more casually in the office than say Frankfurt (which is the Finance center in Germany).
Best! Heinrich
Interesting content as usual!
Appreciate it, thanks for watching Handoko! Best, Heinrich
Really cool and insightful
Great to hear that - thanks for watching! :) Best, Heinrich
I really liked this INTROVERTO company 😊
Thanks for watching! You mean there are lots of introverts working there or was that a spelling mistake? :) Best! Heinrich
Really Great!
Thank you! :) Best, Heinrich
New camera? I've noticed a spike in video quality over the last few weeks.
Hi! Now found someone here in Munich who helps me with creating some of my new videos. He is a bit more knowledgeable about cinematography than me, so indeed hope that it shows :) Best! Heinrich
Quite insightful, thanks for sharing these insights!
Thank you! :)
Hello Heinrich , great video as always :)
Could you please tellme the minimum level of German language requirement for breaking into consulting in Germany and does it differ from firm to firm?
Hi Druv, most firms in Germany (and also other European countries) will require Business-level skills of the local language. There might be some exceptions but this will be the general rule for most larger firms. Best, Heinrich
The accent man. It's fantastic.
;) Thanks for watching Tom! Best, Heinrich
I already applied but got rejected 😭
Anyways, thanks Heinrich for the great content as always.
Sorry to hear that.. hope you will get your dream job at another company! Thanks for watching and lots of success to you! Best, Heinrich
A good view behind the curtains Heinrich.
Happy to hear that, thank you Gavin! Best, Heinrich
Thanks for Sharing
❤️&✌️
Thank YOU for watching! :) Best, Heinrich
haha you definitely smile more often when around people!
That is probably right :) Cheers! Heinrich
How much is time in client sites versus main office for Consultants below Partner level @ Inverto?
Hi! From what I understood they usually follow the Monday to Thursday at the client routine as well. Though at the moment there is of course lots of (home) office due to the travel restrictions. Best! Heinrich
Do you think there will be less travelling in consulting after the pandemic? (As people have adapted to communicate online and less travel expenses)
Hi Aneesa, good question and hard to know for sure. I do think that it will go down a little bit, though would find it hard to imagine that consultants to not follow the "Monday to Thursday at the client" rhythm anymore in the long term, which is of course driving the travel lifestyle. Best, Heinrich
Let’s hope that they will still travel since business travel subsidizes private travel.
Very cool video
Great to hear that, thanks Luis! Best, Heinrich
0:35 part of BCG.
3:50 different types of topics we can support.
6:00 and i have a longer review with one of my teams, where we went through all the topics.
where they're standing? what are current challenges?
7:30 it's not always in such a nice scenery.
8:30 look at the time zones. the clients.
also, share the findings and make important decisions for the way forward.
11:55 be quick and sharp; a good understanding; willing to learn.
12:30 high-paced job.
13:00 distinguish from a good to a great consultant: proactive.
not only response to the pm or clients want, but always think 1-2 steps ahead. what do i need to prepare to make project successful.
Ah, the standard consulting uniform for men - a sweater over collared polo. And if you're feeling daring, you opt for a down vest instead.
Indeed! Though sounds like a very casual, basic outfit :) At the client you usually wear a suit (though also depends on the industry of your client). Best! Heinrich
How many years does it take to get from Junior Consultant to a Partner? Does BCG ask employees to leave if they don't get promoted at a given time?
Hi Arnav! It usually takes around ~8 years. Yes, at BCG the "up or out" principle is in place. Though frankly I do not know to what extent this applies to INVERTO as well. Trust the HR team will be able to answer your questions on this. Best, Heinrich
@@FirmLearning Thanks a lot for the reply! Consulting is a dream job for me and there is a lot I can learn from experienced professionals such as yourself.
3:57 So they take 4-6 weeks to make a powerpoint slide deck but whats differentiating them from other consulting companies is they are also doing some actual work afterwards 🤔
The general approach for these types of projects is rather that first you start with a sizing / potential assessment phase. In this first phase you dig into the numbers, try to understand the supplier portfolio and the spend cube / cost baseline. The result of this phase is an assessment in which areas you believe to be able to save what amount of money. This will indeed often take the form of a PPT slide deck / report. The second phase is then what the person described as "execution". This means that you will plan out the individual initiatives with the clients to actually make these savings happen. This then also means supporting in conducting real life commercial negotiations with supplier, creating the strategies for how to approach these negotiations etc. Best! Heinrich
Is that Stone Henge on the wall?
Do not know for sure but does indeed look like it :) Best! Heinrich
LG! Heinrich
@@FirmLearning Vielen Dank für deine Antwort.
What strikes me is how little paper there is the office
Interesting observation! :) Paperless office indeed a big trend. Thanks for watching! Best, Heinrich
So the MD works in a shared office?!
Hi Steve, that is not too unusual, it's the case at McK in many offices as well. Main reason is probably that (at least pre-COV) partners are traveling all the time anyways and usually only 1-2 days / week in the office. Best, Heinrich
Do you really need calls to find out what your ppl do? Have you heard about Monday, Meet Up, Trello, or even the facilities offered by office 365.you pay already?
Maybe you do a consultancy yourself in how the world evolved :)))
Thank you for watching the video and sharing your thoughts!
I saw that in the Netherlands they are only looking for a principal, would it be cheeky to email the recruiter none the less?
Hi Noam, will probably not hurt to try :) Best! Heinrich
The fruit basket is probably the best thing since sliced bread
A Lenovo Thinkpad pc. Consulting firm CONFIRMED!
Guilty of loving my ThinkPad indeed ;)
Colourful coffee cup :-)
Just picked it up from one of the coffee places on the way :) Thanks for watching Alistair! Best, Heinrich
still waiting to see someone role playing a difficult client lol
Hi Emily, still have this on my ideas list :) Need to find a good role playing partner lol.. Stay tuned! Best, Heinrich
@@FirmLearning ask the toughest boss you ever worked with to play that role 😂
it’s a fine line between being proactive and being too present and also annoying, especially as a woman.
Hi Julia, agree that this is for sure important to balance in the right way.. Thanks for sharing! Best, Heinrich
