    Parkertown docks was a busy place around noon so plan to be out before the crowd if that's not your thing. 7 bridges is a good spot but well known by many. The sardines I got from ShopRite seemed to work as good as bunker and last about as long. I think it was actually cheaper than what I paid for bunker last time I purchased it ($1 each). Thanks! That was actually the first time I had a chance to crab there. It was always packed before so it must normally be a Hotspot. Its a shame all the other bridges have no crabbing signs.

    • @slingshotcrabbing

      Most of the places I go are good for Spot or Croaker. Unfortunately it seems places good for crabbing are usually only good for smaller panfish.

    • @slingshotcrabbing
      @slingshotcrabbing  4 месяца назад +1

      I was thinking the same thing about salinity. Crabs really like it less salty (around 10ppt). Next time I go I was thinking I'll measure the specific gravity to get a better idea what I'm working with. I really should be keeping track of more data points. Things like weather, water temp, tide, salinity, current, etc.

    • @slingshotcrabbing
      @slingshotcrabbing  4 месяца назад

      Yep, they got ripped apart pretty quick. Even faster than bunker, but not by much. I'll need to test more but I was thinking of trying it with bait bags. It's a lot like using bunker but cheaper and I can get it at ShopRite if I can't find a bait and tackle open near where I'm crabbing.

    Hey Tony Dan here. That place is very busy I'm the summer. Do you think it kind of gets crabbed out? I also remember lots of vicious green heads. Were there any there? Anyway looks like you had a nice day, sorry no crabs.

    • @slingshotcrabbing
      @slingshotcrabbing  4 месяца назад

      Hey Dan! I guess it's possible, but from what I've read crabs don't really have homes. They just randomly wander around looking for food, mates and a comfortable environment. If they aren't there than most likely one of those three things changed. Over crabbing could happen but would work itself out quickly. People would stop crabbing there because they aren't catching anything and they would accumulate again.

      knock on wood, I haven't lost a trap yet but I came really close a few times. That's a downside of using circle net traps, they seem to snag more. I was thinking of getting a couple of box traps just for spots like that.

    The guy with the pickup probably parked the way he did is to discourage you and to have you leave. You entered an area where other sports and activities are happening and as unfortunate as it sounds, people in general have grown to dislike fishermen and crabbers. It’s the reason so many people run into Karens and Kens who bully and complain those who legally fish or crab. They just want us to be gone. And it affects not just private individuals fishing, but businesses as well. Proof is how the fishing and charter boat businesses were driven out of Belmar marina and what is being pressured in Point Pleasant and Brielle.
