"The less you talk, the more people listen". For most occasions this is the greatest statement I've ever heard, and for me as a supervisor one of the hardest things to overcome.
TWO thumbs up. Best leaders I've had by far have provided their intent, given me the trust to execute and the grace to screw it up. As a leader, you get FAR more investment, generate a lot more motivation, and start to see great things happen you could never manipulate if you tried to maintain all the control.
HOw to have successful group meetings: 1. Do them RARELY. 2. Make them QUICK. 3. Have either a plan ready or at the very least a dominant goal/objective that will channel the meeting. 4. BE DECISIVE.
What you really want to aim for is a situation where everyone in the meeting side eyes you for a reaction to any questions going. That's how you know you are truly leading.
Detach to gain observation post as much as possible through the chain of command. Delegate all tasks and monitor actions of the team without being lost in the noise
This method allows leaders to see who has an understanding of the matter being discussed at the micro levels. A leader should maintain the macro approach to keep subordinates roped in.
Also reinforces the concept of “learning the job of the man ahead, teaching your job to the man behind”. Leaders must provide these opportunities for their subordinates to grow both as SMEs or formal leaders (or both).
Jocko may address the core of your concern when he talks about ineffective leaders: ruclips.net/video/lNzElklZgqI/видео.html It takes humility and tact to allow your leaders to be less-than-stellar while trying to help them succeed and simply do better. Don't know if this helps, but some thoughts re: your question about trust: - Maintain the honor/respect of others, incld'g your leader, regardless of how you respond - Focus on the situation or issue, not the person - Lead by example yourself - Think beyond the moment Hope something in there helps.
You pay very close attention to what's going on, you develop understanding of the situation and you suggest, politely, good quality solutions at the most opportune times.
Dunno if you ever got any clarity on this, but for all antiquity Jocko Addresses this in Leadership Strategy and Tactics. Short answer... PERFORM and make them look good
Maybe its just me, or the country im from. But 9/10 meets i have ever been in, in and out of the military. There have always been 3 key people in a meeting. The director, the organizer and the sad brainy one that writes everything down. Tho the last one can be cut out if the meeting is recorded for later use, then to be writen down. Even if the meeting is short notice or a spontan meeting. The Director will always point out this key people tho mostly people announce the roles them selfs. Like not everyone is a fast living typing machine writer. just wanted to share, also hope this translates enough to be understood.
One day, these podcasts will have changed thousands of outcomes and lives. Incredible work.

This was one of the most important skill for me to develop as an AoD counselor.

Being a Recovery Coach, this is solid advice for my groups. 👍
the tradition of a council of war before any battle was strongest with the Boers & they totally kicked red-coat butt.

When a leader talks, it should matter(6:33)...how do you get to this point when you don't have trust from your manager?
