The newer gsr 18v ec has the wrist/snag protection that cuts the motor if a bit grabs. This protects the user and the tool really well. The cut out sensor is also tuned to detect the torque selector slipping and cuts the motor when selected torque is reached. Once you understand these functions the tool gives amazing consistency when driving anything from 20mm to 320mm screws
I agree on the model numbers not changing, which is annoying for research! Bosch sent us out the 4ah + GSB/GSR, I was surprised at how they barely weigh any more than the Milwaukee M12CPD w/ 4ah battery. Barely any more length than the M12 either! Building furniture, I use the clutch settings on my drills a fair bit - nothing worse than going below where you want or splitting wood in some nice chunky jarrah.
Since the nature of my work (electrician) involves both screwdriving and also drilling (metal, wood and plastic), and in most times I have to quicky switch between two tasks, l choose GSB over GSR type of the drill as the latter requires me to rotate the torque setting ring to the max (drilling mode) compared to the former (just rotate the mode switch from screwdriving to drilling and vice verse, no need to adjust torque setting ring). The only thing about GSB that worries me is that somebody might use the drill to make hole/s at concrete and also forget to switch the mode back from drilling to screwdriving (and end up destroying the screw)
Nice review as always! You should consider looking at AEG Brushless in your drill comparison. They offer 6 year trade warranty and 3 year battery. Not much online about them unfortunately. Keep up the good work guys!
+Oz Tool Talk AEG are owned by techtronic industries who also own Milwakee power tools and Rigid... Rigid for budget Milwakee for more premium AEG for where??
[Dwain] AEG and Rigid are the same tools, though Rigid doesn't seem to get all the better brushless stuff that we get in Aus under the AEG brand. They are marketed here as a trade brand with a 6 year trade warranty. I really wish I could speak from personal experience, but I can't :(
Hello, I've been after a new cordless drill for a while and I've purchased this drill after your great review. As you know what you are talking about, I've got a very quick question. I've only had it a few days and after one use to put up a few outdoor garden mirrors, the inside of the chuck has worn a little. what I mean is, the tiny little "teeth"? that grip the bit seem to have been ground down slightly is this normal? I know my only corded drill did the same after lots of use. thanks.
[Dwain] I suspect you already know now, but we answered this question by doing a comparison! ruclips.net/video/BBU7VC51YwE/видео.html&lc=z13qdrggqnqlub4p304cillx2qy1el4hhro0k
Great review as always Dwain. They seem like good drills and needed the upgraded chuck. The plastic one on their first brushless drill driver always failed.
Glad to see that they have updated the "old" GSB 18 V-EC. I'm on my third one (old version), and still have problems! Problems with the trigger not responding when depressed and on one occasion, having the plastic chuck fall out :-S. Fortunately, Bosch customer service and their rep have been fantastic to deal with. The belt hook was also useless and always unclipped from your nail bag. I would be interested to see if they updated it. A simple solution is to buy the clip off another drill (part # 2 609 111 584).
[Dwain] wow that sucks man, hope you're over the worst of it. These new ones are definitely an improvement, but I obviously can't give much opinion on durability of parts given the nature of our reviews.
[Dwain[ hey Chris. Yeah I produce video content for United Tools too. Often I review the same gear for them as I do on our independant channel. Helps to pay the bills :)

They look sweet cant wait for them to come on the market. Great video keep it up.
[Dwain] Yeah they're great drills. Cheers !

[Dwain] good feedback, cheers Paul! Will have to check out your channel.
Awesome bosch review thanks guys.
[Dwain] cheers mate!
Had a go with the bigger GSB18VE-EC version of this and it a real nice machine. Felt as good as a Milwaukee Fuel, or Makita DHP481
[dwain[ I'm looking forward to getting hand on that one!

Great review! Looking forward to the Metabo.
[Dwain] Cheers!

It is an amazingly small drill GTR !
There will be some guys that won't be able to pass it up.

[Dwain] that's because they don't seem to want to let any reviewers get hold of their products, we've tried :(

Sorry I meant to say Ryobi instead of Rigid!

I like the look of them. But I'll be stuck with Milwaukee for a while
[Dwain] nothin wrong with that! Let's see how they compare in the upcoming comparison!
very nice video!!!, question, how do you compare the bosch to the new milwaukee brushless compact 2702 ?

[Dwain] Thanks Drayne! It is a good upgrade!
Thanks for the review, love Bosch. But am a Milwaukee girl all the way!
[Dwain] our pleasure! Thanks for getting involved.

another great review dwain! #TIACREW
[Dwain] Cheers Ryan!
why would somebody take GSR over GSB
[Dwain] because it's more compact (shorter), and they may already have a larger, more powerful hammer drill.
Hi Dwain, did you do two different reviews of the same drills? What's this?
