What a beast Daigo is. Made the Sim-Ryu matchup look even. In fact he could of won it 3-1 if he hadn't missed his Ultra. He made the Yun-Sim match look completely free. I haven't seen Fchamp get blown up like that in a long time. Although I gotta say Daigo's Ryu and Fchamps Sim both looked a bit rusty.
Based on this performance it's obvious that Champ is not familiar with the matchup yet. Give him some time to learn it, and work on it, and it will still be tough for him i'm sure, but he won't look so free.
Because he's not spamming fireballs; Ryu's fireballs are easy to punish if you're just spamming them, which is not what Daigo is doing. He's not just randomly throwing fireballs, he knows exactly what he's doing, when exactly to throw the fireball, so that he can bait in whoever he's playing and win. He's doing exactly what he should be doing; playing to Ryu's strengths.
this was such a good match! and seriously the best commentating ever which is like a good combo :D and i like watching daigo play cause he may seem overrated to me at times but i really learn a lot from him(i think everyone else does too) XD
I can honestly say this is the best SSF4 match I've ever watched... it takes colossal amounts of skill to get to this level of mind play, prediction and performance, furthermore, to be able to perform those plays under such pressure... no words can describe how much skill is required to perform like that.
seth brings a classiness to this medium that goes a long way. It feels like im watching espn when hess commenting. when i hear chris hu i laugh, but its not the same
This is one of the rare times where Daigo picks character change in the middle of the tournament match... I was quite surprised to see his Ryu again and even though I have to go for my Filipino representative... I still prefer Daigo but cudos to Champ as well
@Dridokof i never said it's a 10-0 matchup but you have to agree that there are very few things dhalsim can do to stop yun from getting in and decimating him and they all amount to guesses if the yun is on point. it's gotta be 8-2.
It's an best of 5 lol exhibition. He mained Yun in AE, the Ryu vs Dhalsim was meant to entertain the crowd while they wait for one of their players. They played a best of 5 with Ryu, then played a best of 5 with Yun.
I like how people are complaining about a really good Dhalsim player using his knowledge of spacing to his advantage. I care less who's playing it; he can keep his ground with the Beast.
@70k0 oh i forgot the yoga tower, whoaaa havent seen a sim player pulling off the YOGA TOWER. you must be godlike like champ to do that. skill right there!
Yeah, he can make comebacks after his opponents get offensive, which is exactly what he's trying to make them do when he throws fireballs. He doesn't do it because he thinks he can win just by throwing fireballs at his opponents, he does it in order to get screen control, so that his opponents do get defensive, and thus, allow him to do those incredible things.
Also, Seth Killian mentioned that Dhalsim had gotten buffed slightly here and there, and that it resulted in a better punisher from Dhalsim. If this was the intention, Capcom has mad a misstake, since Dhalsim's best punisher without super or ultra in Super was: db.hp->b.mk->light flame for 258 dmg and his new best is: dp.hp->b.mk->ex flame for 246 dmg, and that is wasting one bar!
@Shinorai - yea same here. Daigo vs Ricky Ortiz in EVO 2010 Grand Finals was also an epic match! Made me wanna play SSFIV! There are a few other great players like Champ, Arturo (both really smart players), Mago, and GamerBee, JsMaster, and others that make you wanna play! All those guys can play but seem to understand the game really well!
@malgab Yes i forgot to mention that. He already lost versus Filipino's Dhalsim when he used to play Ryu. I think he does respect the fighter (Filipino doesnt look like the typical american fighter). That's maybe why he didn't want to inflict the Yun - Dhalsim matchup ealier.
Jeez, Daigo made Sim-Ryu matchup look 5/5 and made Yun-Sim matchup look 10-0...fuckin beast. No joke, I actually felt bad for F.Champ after the second match, that was just brutal
@TonyMontanas it's more than manageable because ryu has the hadouken game and once ryu gets in he is clearly at an advantage. the vanilla ryu/sim matchup was 5/5 the only thing that changed is ryu got weaker. that's why it's in sim's favor in chocolate and now ae(strawberry?).
Which question? "Not to bright are ya kiddo?" or "unless you are slow and need me to use smaller words. Do you?" They both seemed rhetorical but I answered the second one anyway. I'm not sure what you're accusing me of avoiding.
@Dridokof teleport on wakeup can easily be snuffed out by,you guessed it, ex. lunge punch which is completely SAFE on block. palm strike beats sniper clean. dive kick beats almost if not all of sim's pokes. shoulder rush easily punishes dhalsim fire balls into a 30-40% genei jin combo. yun was specifically designed to easily get around and punish zoners. yun has ALL the cards. if the players doesn't play them it's his own fault.
Yeah, because saying that I think one move is better than others automatically means that all I do is use that one move the entire game. Totally. Oh, and I didn't say the uppercut sucks, I said it wasn't one of his major strengths. It's perfectly good as an anti-air, or for getting a juggle into Ultra, but it's not good enough to be used as a major tool, like Ken's uppercut.
I said reasonably. And it's not just this match. He does it all the time in his others as well. He is good, he does make comebacks without them after he gets in their head and his opponent gets defensive, but yeah, you can call this spamming. He does it in like 3 sets of 2 or 3.
We obviously have different definitions of spamming, then. To me, at least, spamming is just more than using fireballs a lot. To me, spam is using fireballs without any thought towards tactics, or baiting, or whatever. It's using fireballs purely to try and kill somebody with the fireballs.
Sorry that's "from Vanilla to Super." Dhalsim got nerfed again in AE, which makes the matchup a 6-4 again, instead of a 7-3. Btw, I noticed you linked a more than year old matchup chart from eventhubs. Those are all old dude. They change with time.
So, a Ryu player should never throw fireballs in rapid succession, even though it's one of Ryu's major strengths? Especially against Dhalsim, which is one of his worst matches?
Dhalsim is for the patient players who can grind it out. He's one of the least rewarding characters to play with in and out of the game. So whenever I see a good Dhalsim player in the pool, I give my condolences.
@webterrestrial Very true, havn't been able to really put my SSFIV Arcade Edition down after watching too many skilled street fighters play the game. Hope Daigo keeps it up, I still remember Daigo vs Justin (where he parrys all of chuns moves and KOs Chun, is that right?) Whoever that was, Lol, it made me an Honest SF 4 life!
This Stream was by far the best this year cause i got to see filipino champ get his shit pushed in.but what bothers me more is how is it that no one ever punches when he curses then out
@TonyMontanas hadouken's only trade if their not spaced correctly. sim's pokes can be punished at full range with well timed shoryukens. if you had you the link i gave it would show you that the matchup is 5/5 in vanilla and was only 6/4 in super due to nerfs on ryu's behalf. this match is all about who gets the life lead first. if dhalsim does then ryu has to chase and take stupid risks, if ryu does then dhalsim has to play offense which he's not good at. so yes it is "more than manageable"
Oh no, I'm comprehending your comments, I was just hoping to read coherent arguments rather than coherent insults. That may have been a little optimistic.
DAIGO!! Watching Daigo play is my inspiration to play, not to be like him, but to be as good one day. (SF games kill my thumbs, anybody else having this problem?) Yes I'm nooby at SF XP
@voodoochild346 Like, I said you have no idea what you're talking about. "well timed shoryukens". Yeah, because that's so easy to do on reaction and doesn't involve taking risks. And no, Dhalsim does never have to "play offense" in this match, except maybe when it's close to timeout.I already said matchup charts on eventhubs are old. They still have Fei long at mid tier in those charts, and Makoto is last... What does that tell you?
Dhalsim really is a special kind. Must be boring to watch for some expecting combo fests but you don't need to be a pro to know that Dhalsim doesn't work that way. I heard he'll be in Tekken X Street Fighter (the 3D one) so I'm interested in seeing how he fares there.
whoever is reading this in 2020 I gotta say this 240p video is more exciting to watch than a 4k SF5 match.
Easy lol
2024… better than sf6 too
is Daigo the pixel on the left, or the pixel on the right?
Man that RYUvsSIM match was awesome. It's always fun watching tactical matches.
Man that down Fierce into Shinku was Amazing! Just like the amazing Shoryuken into Shinku(Full Screen) back in SFIV to Iyo's Dhalsim
HOLY CRAP LOOK AT THIS PIXEL!
I like how the transition from Ryu to Yun ... the patience just dies haha
I agree with you. I wonder how much we can say any gameplay we see is actual skill versus simple lucky moments with attack differences.
I just want to say right now that I love these commentators. I don't play Street Fighter at all, and they help understand the situation much better.
He's doing exactly what he should be doing; playing to Ryu's strengths.
He didn't block, he absorbed it, thats why. It's part of the game
this was such a good match! and seriously the best commentating ever which is like a good combo :D and i like watching daigo play cause he may seem overrated to me at times but i really learn a lot from him(i think everyone else does too) XD
Each time I watch this video when Daigo using Yun,I don't why I smile cunningly
Yun is Daigo's Ace up his sleeve.
240p. That's not a record in 2011. It's in 1991on VHS!
Daigo (Ryu) vs Filipino Champ is like watching golf. Even the announcers sound like golf announcers.
That is Seth Killian, former employee of Capcom and Street Fighter commentator for decades, before you were born.
you know your a badass when they name a combo after you
ユンはやばいと再確認した
それでもチャンプがラウンド取り返したところは熱かった
omg when he switched to Yun that shit was just soo freeee
I can honestly say this is the best SSF4 match I've ever watched... it takes colossal amounts of skill to get to this level of mind play, prediction and performance, furthermore, to be able to perform those plays under such pressure... no words can describe how much skill is required to perform like that.
seth brings a classiness to this medium that goes a long way. It feels like im watching espn when hess commenting. when i hear chris hu i laugh, but its not the same
this is a match to remember.... FIGHT!!!
"a wins a win": the life philosophy of dhalsim players.
I like how as the video progresses more and more guys sit around that seemingly pretty girl. :D
Amazing how the game turned south right after the switch to yun. Who thought divekicks were a good idea in fighters lol
he made fc looked like a chump by using yun outclassing him by every move
if casuals are this intense i can't even imagine the actual tournament o.o
This is one of the rare times where Daigo picks character change in the middle of the tournament match... I was quite surprised to see his Ryu again and even though I have to go for my Filipino representative... I still prefer Daigo but cudos to Champ as well
this was a casuals not a tournament
@Dridokof i never said it's a 10-0 matchup but you have to agree that there are very few things dhalsim can do to stop yun from getting in and decimating him and they all amount to guesses if the yun is on point. it's gotta be 8-2.

Not much other options, Dhalsim specializes in ranged combat while Ryu only has the haouken xD
Also, Seth Killian mentioned that Dhalsim had gotten buffed slightly here and there, and that it resulted in a better punisher from Dhalsim. Good fight daigo
Excellent commentators. Obviously excellent match.
I played a lot of street fighter almost 20 years ago and I used to give people headaches with my dhalsim game play!
@UserX03 ryu has options against sim can't say that for sim against yun. 6-4 vs 8-2 is a huge difference and not even close to being the same.
Yes, I consider spamming as any repetition of a move in reasonably quick succession. Tactics/mind games or no.
Rushdown characters vs Zoners always favor the rushdowns. It's like that in every fighting game
Fantastic commentary...and Ive never said that before.
@TonyMontanas it's more than manageable because ryu has the hadouken game and once ryu gets in he is clearly at an advantage. the vanilla ryu/sim matchup was 5/5 the only thing that changed is ryu got weaker. that's why it's in sim's favor in chocolate and now ae(strawberry?).
i'm wondering who started that whole "aye aye aye..." thing.
@TonyMontanas ae ryu-dhalsim match hasn't changed much since super that's why i used them.
Which question? "Not to bright are ya kiddo?" or "unless you are slow and need me to use smaller words. Do you?" They both seemed rhetorical but I answered the second one anyway. I'm not sure what you're accusing me of avoiding.
I love at 25:00 Seth Killian goes "That just looks dirty." lol i imagine there was a "smh" in there too lol hahaha
Thank you for the upload!
Using Yun, I don't think, is a testament to Diago's skill. It's just a testament to how fucking overpowered Yun is.
@9:16 Chick in the background seems impressed. :D
I'm glad you're here to explain that people who win at fighting games are actually bad at fighting games.
I said reasonably. And it's not just this match. He does it all the time in his others as well. He is good, he does make comebacks without them after he gets in their head and his opponent gets defensive, but yeah, you can call this spamming. He does it in like 3 sets of 2 or 3.
@Sx3KingKai That's good to hear. IS Yang actually beatable now?
i am observing the hippo through all the rounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@topbluffa1 living up to your name with that statement.
We obviously have different definitions of spamming, then. To me, at least, spamming is just more than using fireballs a lot. To me, spam is using fireballs without any thought towards tactics, or baiting, or whatever. It's using fireballs purely to try and kill somebody with the fireballs.
@hackstermatrix Yun has simply more options than Ryu. His dive kick makes it easier go further, so does the launch punch. The matchup is different.
09:06 WOOWWWW WHATAAA !! =@@
Sorry that's "from Vanilla to Super." Dhalsim got nerfed again in AE, which makes the matchup a 6-4 again, instead of a 7-3. Btw, I noticed you linked a more than year old matchup chart from eventhubs. Those are all old dude. They change with time.
@TheKOng2000 u know daigo swtiched to yun when ae came out right
In the original games it was Cheap. Because, only a sneaky cunning player would defeat an opponent by 'Chip' damage.
Just like the old saying... if you can't beat them... Yun them!
it takes 20 minutes for chump to get a win but it takes 5 minutes for him to lose.
@malgab Kind off a friendly runback from NCR8 i think
is it seth Kilian voice or the iplaywinner guy ,so confused
You sure love hitting my ankles don't you!?
Miyagi say "First match up like chess. Second match up: Connect FOUR."
These are great matches.
@CaptainShadaloo naa daigo dropped akuma pretty early, hes back to ryu cuurently =)

11:58 Dies of a fist bump.. lol XD
i sorta laughed when the dhalsim guy took off his sunglasses after the perfect win.
He got bored of trying, so he picked a 8-2 match and laughed at how broken Yun was.
she's in love with daigo's fast fingers
Yun is just Dhalsim's assasin, it's brutal to watch
@giriisindahouse no that is daigo :P and yeah ^^ ryu vs dhalsim always takes that long ^^
this was a great video
HIT SOME BUTTONS COLE
Notice that Daigo punished those teles almost every single time.
Daigo used his Ryu games to download filipino Champ's style
(note how his predictions were better with Yun).
Oh no, I'm comprehending your comments, I was just hoping to read coherent arguments rather than coherent insults. That may have been a little optimistic.
Guys, stop arguing and check out 17:28. There's a cute girl in the background.
DAIGO!! Watching Daigo play is my inspiration to play, not to be like him, but to be as good one day. (SF games kill my thumbs, anybody else having this problem?) Yes I'm nooby at SF XP
So how’d it turn out?
@voodoochild346
Like, I said you have no idea what you're talking about. "well timed shoryukens". Yeah, because that's so easy to do on reaction and doesn't involve taking risks. I heard he'll be in Tekken X Street Fighter (the 3D one) so I'm interested in seeing how he fares there.
yeah i know...i sort of exaggerated...but yeah i am calling his yun his secret weapon becuz i only knew daigo from his amazing ryu
9:03 OWNED!!!!!!
