@K2theArMAX That is how Dhalsim was designed to be played. He's not a rushdown or midscreen character. His whole gameplan is to force you to find a way in.
When the ultra that stumped and defeated Daigo at the very end, it almost felt like time was frozen for just a short second there. Really amazing play by Filipino champ.
@VashxShanks I was referring to what you said about Daigo in melee range. I'd probably go for the 6k if I had the chance, honestly, but I love challenges as well.
@MrEmilCastagnier Some Japanese players like Daigo enjoy coming to these tournies and facing more then just their fellow Japanese opponents. They realise Japan isn't the only place to go to tournies and have the capability to come to these.
people are talking about bad matchups? daigo always plays with ryu and can beat anyone with ryu so he never needs to change nor does he change based on "matchups." filipino champ won because he is the currently the best sf4 player in the world right now. give credit where credit is due and stop talking about matchups. this is DAIGO UMEHARA we're talking about.
That was a really good finals match. :D I'm just so impressed how the creators balanced this game to allow like *any* character, if used correctly to pose a serious threat!
@@snakebebop Wrong. I doubt Daigo played a factor in their balancing decision with the release of SSF4 in 2010. (he hadn't even won his second evo yet because Super came out before that years EVO) Ryu objectively needed his damage toned down, and they did just that. They toned down the damage & chip damage on all 3 versions of his regular Shoryukens, lowered his U1 damage, made his fireballs do 10 less damage, and made it harder to combo into U1 off of anti air trades. (You can only do that near the corner now) Other than those overall damage nerfs they actually gave him a few BUFFS going into Super SF4 because they still felt like he was fine. (He was) And with everyone else getting buffed in Super + new characters added + Capcom having a better idea how to balance the game this time around, Ryu ended up being in a pretty good place in SSF4. Then in AE he got a mixture of buffs and nerfs but nothing to crazy, maybe Daigo played a role in that, but probably a small one.
This has nothing to do with it the torney, but about the stage. I could be late and may sound like a noob, but is tht Dhalsim's wife in the background on the Exciting Street Scene stage? The one in the blue?
@Tech7VoCarl Daigo was originally in Losers Bracket so he had to win 2 sets to win the tournament. Filipino Champ was in Winners until Daigo beat him in the first set
@Buffalocrunch Its not about counterpicking and not about matchups when it comes to Daigo... He plays Ryu no matter what matchup he is against... Its just the way of the japanese players. In fact... All Japanese pro player stick to one character. Regardless of the matchup.
Glad to see Daigo losing more. Not cause I dislike Daigo, but cause it means everyone is leveling up. Plus, it makes tournaments more exciting now that Daigo is no longer "unbeatable." It's anyone's game now.
@OneLoveJK actually, it's 6-4 in favor of sim. in the end, champ just outplayed daigo and did used yoga tower mixups that daigo didn't properly adjust to.
@giovannihsg Daigo was put in the Loser's bracket by Filipino Champ during the normal games. He then went on to win against Tokido and beat Filipino Champ in the Grand Finals Set 1. That means both of them were put into Loser's bracket, so they were back on even footing and it was down to whoever won the final set.
I'm guessing the commentator is a Dhalsim fan Dhalsim meanwhile has been ascending the power scale along with Ryu. I think that F Champ is good at this game because he's very cautious and yet very daring which is a perfect and dangerous mixture for anyone facing his Dhalsim. Though Daigo could have done it if he more carefully analyzed Champs movements because Dhalsim has a lot of punishable options. I myself am still learning how to both counter and play Dhalsim.
@TheTaiyakiGuy Then what is your opinion of the matchup. General consensus is that it's 6-4 Dhalsim. It's definitely winnable for Ryu though this doesn't change the fact that its an uphill battle for Ryu players. Especially if you try playing Ryu against godlike Dhalsims like YHC-Mochi, Arturo, Filipino Champ etc. They know very well how to lock Ryu down lol. I'm not complaining about it. Every character's going to have their bad matchups. It's part of what makes fighting games interesting.
@polarity55 lol. I agree, this matchup is looking more like 7-3 rather then 6-4. I'm looking forward to Sims nerfs in the Arcade Edition as right now, Sim vs Ryu in any tournament final = sim victory.
James Chen and UltraDavid are two of the best commentators we have. USA commentators simply cheer against Daigo because they like seeing their countrymen win against the best.
truly becoz of the better techni that daigo gets and that's why they need to report in favor of Filipino's way to make the match a more exciting one anyway,i agree wif u
@dragonzord250 kinda...dhalsim's strategy is to keep the opponent away so when the opponent gets in, they will already have less than half their health, and it's really hard to get it. But dhalsim's got a huge weakness: he's got no good wakeups (excluding his super and ultra) so when you get in, dhalsim is pretty mcuh dead. (well, most of the times)
Hm? I don't get it, daigo won the 1st set, filipino champ won the 2nd....so its 1-1....so why is filipino champ suddenly the champion after winning this set?
@adijarca If you look at my first post, street fighter makes this point stronger with damage scaling, ultras, and reversals. The point isn't to land uber combos and get in the opponents face all the time. Its to work your way in with mixup chars and zone with nearly everyone else.
You guys obviously have not watched a Fighting Game stream. People always root for the underdog, it doesn't matter which is the hero or the villain of the stream.
Srry my noobish, but why did Filipino won the tournament if Daigo won set 1 by 3-1 and lost the set 2 by 3-2? Wouldn't it be 5-4 Daigo? And why the hell there is a set 2 if the tournament rules say that "Grand Finals is the best of 5 games."?
You just have to get all the damage you can get against a great Dhalsim when you are up close because once he gets spacing his pokes are annoying. But I found that if you faint a focus dash fwd and tatsu you can catch Dhalsim teleporting or whiff.
@MagicantProductions I agree, havent watched much tournaments like evo and stuff cause its just daigo winning, and as much as people hated J.wong I loved J.wong because he was beating daigo in tournment, and he was the only one i enjoyed watching vs daigo because he was prity much just winning everything he played.
@RASHED786 I think Umehara's confidence has been knocked significantly after the Mago fight. Mago trawled him and Daigo was displaying all sorts of desperation.
@VashxShanks That's just Sim's playstyle man. You can just rush down a Ryu player with Sim, it doesn't work. You have to sit back and know when to use each of your moves as a poke, and be on point with all 3-4 of your anti-airs.
It seems the only way to beat Dhalsim is by getting a good lifelead and just standing there letting the time run out, and waiting for him to come to you.
i cant help but think that if Daigo used tatsu at the end to get over Dhalsim's ultra he might have been able to win, but then again im kinda noobish at the game so idk if dhalsim could punish that or not...
@TheTaiyakiGuy In which post did i imply that Dhalsim-Ryu was too unfair for Ryu? In which post did I overstate Dhalsim's advantages against Ryu? Lol I said was that it was an uphill battle for Ryu. Ryu has to work harder than Dhalsim in the matchup. And if the Dhalsim player is really good they will be able to give the Ryu player a hard time. Of course that doesn't mean the matchup is totally unfair for Ryu. Like I said, its totally winnable for Ryu lol.
they are not hating i love Daigo(not homo) he is my overall favorite but i always wanted to see him lose kinda weird but thats how they felt not hating but just wanna see him challenged
@xNewAgeWarriorx I was there to leave my opinions on the fight, and the spoiler comments which are at this point invariably annoying to see. Your reason for being here was to ask me what I was doing here I guess?
@TheTaiyakiGuy Lol then what's your definition of a 6-4 matchup. 6-4 means that one of the characters have a significant advantage but not as much advantage as a 7-3/8-2. 6-4 is definitely winnable for the character with a disadvantage. Characters have to work even harder if they are at a disadvantage in 7-3/8-2 matchups. If non of the two character have any significant advantage over one another then the matchup would be a 5-5.
@OneLoveJK I doubt it ey, Champ makes it seem like that. Thing is the most you can eat if you guess wrong is a HP or ultra in extreme situations. If ryu gets in and you make one mistake you eat srk fadc ultra.
@b7ray32 its not so much zoning/running and hiding as much as it is spacing in my opinion. in any fighting game, it is all about spacing. but yea, filipino champ does turtle, but if it works, it works. but its not to say that the likes of dhalsim cant be offensive, too. of course its more fun to play other characters, but if dhalsim wins, then it wins.
@adijarca No...you clearly don't play street fighter or are inexperienced. This game isn't about combos or special moves. Its about space. The whole point is to look at the spacing, see why he did what he did. How each move could have been punished, how they control the screen, and the mindgames they set up.Oh its not cheap, every good street fighter player uses projectiles or good moves over and over.
@inspiredgluestick your right playing lame in street fighter is what works because the game rewards turtle/runaway tactics but the people who play like that sugar coat it and call it zoning when in reality its running and hiding in the corners spamming projectiles but street fighter favors the player who is using those tactics so therefor it works and im no sako but im a damn good cammy player and since she is a rushdown character she's at a disadvantage but i like the challenge
@xxsappyconexx While I see your point I believe F.champ deserved it because he didn't get put into loser's while daigo did, and I actually kinda agree with you if it was the other way around and diago never got into loser's then he probably would have won, but hey F.champ deserves what he did win, but that it is next to impossible to trick daigo.
@K2theArMAX That is how Dhalsim was designed to be played. He's not a rushdown or midscreen character. His whole gameplan is to force you to find a way in.

idk about that, Capcom nerfed Ryu because of Daigo

Filipino deserved the championship!!! Tokido's epic pose was championship worthy too x)
