    friend mike thanks for your videos! The sounds of Superior Drummer 3 are spectacular when played from the computer, but on the roland td 30 I can't get them to sound good, is it possible to synchronize the roland td 30 to make it more responsive and sound like on the computer? thanks for your help, sorry my bad english, I'm from Colombia and I can't find help in Spanish!

      Frank Bers maybe you are hearing consistent velocities when played from the computer but inconsistent when you are playing in real time with your TD30?
      Some SDX & EZX work better with your TD30, for example I always had trouble getting Metal Foundry SDX to sound good, but Death & Darkness SDX sounds AMAZING!!
      I have a TD30 with SD3 and I’m very pleased with the results but like I said, not every SDX & EZX works well when playing in real time.

      Also are you turning of the module sounds so you’re only hearing SD3 and not a mix of both SD3 and TD30?

    hello Mike, Do you have a video or one you can recommend, or even an article that would explain in detail how to use the Roland SPD 30 with in say Digital Performer or any DAW to to trigger and or control Superior Drummer 3? Im trying to set-up drum templates within a daw where I can play Superior drummer 3 from my SPD 30.
    I can play Trilian Bass plug-in and Superior drummer 3 from my Korg Triton LE in DP to record midi track info. I want to be able todo the same thing while playing SPD 30 accessing SUP Drummer 3 in DP as a plug-in, and also be able to map drum templates in Sup Drummer 3 matching up to the drum pads in my SPD 30. I know I'm asking a lot, but any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

      Hi, thanks for watching! Well, a SPD30 can be used like any other electronic device. Under "Settings" you can pick a dedicated SPD30 mapping preset. Then just assign a sound per pad you want to trigger and you are ready to go!

      @@MikeLuke When you refer to "Under Settings", are you referring to settings in Superior drummer, or in the SPD 30?
      Thanks.

    Great vid!
    I wish there wasn't so much master bus processing on so many of the presets I like as I alway use multi-output.

    • @MikeLuke
      @MikeLuke  4 года назад

      Yes, that's always a problem. A preset often looses all its power when bypassing the master bus processing.

    Very informative Mike, learning a lot. I'm a drummer in a funk band (like jamiroquai meets fearless flyers). What library/ workflow wo you recommend for using superior drummer (and my roland TD30) for recording an EP? specifically: where (in your vast experience) can I find the best funk kits/presets (which library, which ones). Thanks!

    • @MikeLuke
      @MikeLuke  Год назад +1

      There’s a dedicated expansion pack called „Funk EZX“, you’ll find it on Toontrack’s website. You can use all expansion packs both for SD3 and EzDrummer within Superior Drummer

    Hi Mike,
    Great video! Do you have any tips on managing sounds from other libraries from the perspective of disk management? I have the core library on the main disk a second library on an external disk due to spatial constraints. If I add anything to a preset (on main disk) from the library on the external disk, then I need to have that disk connected of course to load that preset. I've been able to create a secondary location on the main disk and bring over a subset of the 2nd library, but it's very hard to determine exactly what folder the sounds I've used in the preset are coming from. I end up copying over a folder from the 2nd library, then open preset, see if it loads...if it doesn't, try another one, and so on. I haven't been able to find anywhere that shows the file location of where the specific sound/instrument I'm using in Superior Drummer. Anything I'm missing?

      @MikeLuke  4 года назад

      Hi Dan, thanks! That's a great question. Well, the software itself actually doesn't care where your files or libraries are located as each library can assigned to another path. However, when you want to combine different libraries, this might cause some issues, especially when you have external storage with different connections (like USB 2.0, USB 3.0, Thunderbolt ... you name it). I always recommend having ONE dedicated drive for all libraries, including the core library. I use an external common hard disk drive which is connected to my iMac via Thunderbolt connection, it gives me decent results. You need to know that the samples just need to be loaded one time. The moment they are loaded into RAM, they are played from there. (By the way, I made a video about that topic some weeks ago).
      But to answer your question: In SD3 go to "Settings", then hit the "Libraries/Paths" tab in the top and there you see where all libraries are installed - and you can make changes there. Hope this helps.

      @@MikeLuke thanks for the reply. I've got it working. For example, I added Temple Blocks from Orchestral (external drive) to a preset from Core (internal drive). Through several trial and error, I copied 1 of the subfolders..small subset of Orchestral...from external drive > Orchestral to internal drive (where I told Superior Drummer config to look as you indicated), unplugged the external drive, and restarted SD, didn't work. I repeated this process with the subfolders, until it worked. What I was left with was my Core preset working with Orchestral Temple blocks added and external drive unplugged, yet still not running out of space on internal. The shortcut I'm looking for would have been able to look at Temple Blocks, see the exact file location, and not have to do the trial and error stuff. Make sense? (I know...the future eventually holds 1 massive SSD that can simply hold it all) :)

    Is the using instruments from other libraries for replacement or stacking you yourself typically do? I’ve always tried to avoid this due to the room differences but interested to know if the expert uses this in your usual workflows ? Thanks for all the great info!

    • @MikeLuke
      @MikeLuke  3 года назад

      I try to avoid it as much as possible, to be honest. Sometimes I stack a second snare when I am missing a certain flavor, but usually I try to achieve the sound with the given instruments from the library I just work with.

    Hello!
    First of all, congrats on your channel and amazing reviews and work.
    I’m a drummer for over 35 years and already a Roland user for over 10 years.
    I have a TD-30 running SD3 and its expansions, but I wish I could have your input here ...
    I work with a kit from the SD3 core library that I created and it sounds amazing, but ... for every kit I upload from another library, it’s always a pain in the ass regarding the kit pieces “feel”.
    My guess? I think I should rework my trigger settings on my module. I hate seeing massive kits and sounds from other sets but it’s always “weak” when I load them. My dream? Being able to load different kits and play without having to tweak every kit piece configuration. Any suggestions? Thanks, Leo

    • @MikeLuke
      @MikeLuke  4 года назад

      Hi Leonardo. Many people have similar issues. The problem is that each and every expansion has been recorded or sampled by different drummers, so not every expansion reacts or feels the same. Changing the settings in the module is always the first step to consider (and people often forget this), but I am afraid you will need to tweak every single expansion, too. Good news: you only have to do it once - then save it as, let's say, "Default kit" for each library and you're done. You cannot switch between libraries unfortunately and just copy all settings as the expansions are so different - some of them have just two toms, while others have 5 toms, different articulations ... you name it.

      Hi@@MikeLuke, Thanks for the feedback!
      Actually, I was kind of expecting you to say something like this.
      So, when you say "save as default kit", you mean as a preset kit per expansion, and not messing with the trigger and velocity settings inside the E-Drum midi settings tab, right?
      A lot of hard work ahead .... ahahaha
      Thanks a lot !!!
