    IMPORTANT NOTE: Please know that Swami Sivananda delivered these lectures in India back in early 1950s. During those times in India, many sattvic food items mentioned in this video were available in a natural and pure form. But today the quality
    of these food items are degraded to such a low level with artificial and processed ingredients, especially in western countries.
    Sattvic foods are natural, organically grown, and as unrefined as possible. Modern food processing takes the Prana (or life force) out of many foods and makes them heavy, impotent, and lifeless- or simply "dead food."
    The ancient Ayurvedic criteria for foods to be considered Sattvic were quite simple: foods were grown organically on good rich fertile soil; foods were to be of attractive appearance, and be harvested at the correct time of year. Foods should be whole foods full of life-force and enzymes and be as close as possible as they are in their natural fresh state.

      Supreme Yogi Thank you for this clarification about the foods! I was so confused bc I keep reading conflicting information about bread, grains, coffee, tea, garlic, mushrooms, etc. Is there a more recent compilation of what foods are currently considered appropriate for fostering higher consciousness? Please advise. Thank you very much! 🙏

      I have been on a sattvic diet for more than 1 year, try very hard to get only organic foods, but sometimes have to rely on some tinned or frozen items. I am growing what I can in my backyard garden. Are there any herbs that are particularly good for a sattvic diet?

    With respect, I would like to disagree on just one point- milk and milk products(joghurt, buttermilk, butter and ghee). The modern dairy industry involves unconscionable cruelty towards cows and calves. The calf is separated from the cow as soon as it is born, fattened on artificial milk(sugar,water,so flour and oil) and slaughtered. The cow itself is slaughtered. When I look at all this cruelty, I find it difficult to consume milk in any form. I was raised vegetarian and gave up milk just for this one reason-the cruelty of the dairy industry. My mind still craves milk products, but my conscience doesn't allow it. I would like to hear your thoughts on veganism as a diet on the spiritual path. Namaste.

      Ancient people use to have cows in the house..the cow was like a family member,,utmost respected..and the milk cow gave was quite nutritious.Milk and milk products were healthy..milk has direct connection with state of mind of the animal..today in diary farms they look only for profit and they are least bothered about how cow feels..when the cow no longer useful or gave milk its butchered for meat. never consume milk that we get from shops..if you want healthy milk and milk products, buy a cow and take care of the cow just like you take care of your family member . consuming milk from such cows are very very healthy

    Thank you so much for the information, I just wanna say that since I’ve started meditation my body has naturally transferred me to these foods. Anytime I take wrong food( heavy like too many chapatis) consecutively for two three days I can’t meditate and feel lost . So yeah definitely food plays big role in meditation. I usually eat oats with milk and honey and some ghee and seeds and turmeric. I try to do organic as much as possible. And also bananas , spinach , green vegetable and fruits, nuts are helpful. Thanks again

      Karma NOT food plays a big role in fixing the ratio of 3 gunas (rajas/tamas/satvik) everyone has. Karma pre-programs a person's mindset or guna and situations and circumstances. If you overeat and quickly realize your mistake, it is your guna based on karma of past lives. It does not mean everyone realizes the same way. Vegan does not mean enlightened. Remember, Hitler was a vegan. Point is food does NOT determine a person's mindset or guna. It is always the karma which decides.

    • @goodbadluck5486
      @goodbadluck5486 4 года назад +1

      @@Dharmicaction Sure, likewise just because thousands of years ago people didn't exploit cows for their 'products' the same way humans do today doesn't mean when you have 'ghee' you are suddenly enlightened either, or that it is okay. Sometimes I hear Hitler is vegetarian, now he was even vegan. Yet in handful of biographies, some authors who were even close friends of Hitler talk about his love for 'liver,' 'stuffed squab,' and pig flesh.

      Food is not eaten by mouth only what we see ,hear ,talk and eat are all food for mind and body.

Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give away, and whatever austerities you perform - do that, as an offering to Me. In this way you will be freed from bondage to work and its auspicious and inauspicious results..." BG 9.26-28

    Most tea is definitely healthy - chamomile, ginger, hibiscus, green, peppermint, among others. That's supported by a lot of solid research. Fish can definitely be healthy. Salmon, for example, contains OMEGA 3, which is indispensable to good brain functioning. I think he's correct insofar as a vegetarian diet is desirable, although one needs to consider also where the people in question live. One should stay away from processed food, in favor of the organic variety.

    Just to be clear, when the video means milk, it means milk from "Brahmi (Indian)" cow. The qualities of this milk are that it is white but has an ever so slight yellowish hue in it. People may ask following questions:-
    1) What difference does the species of cow make? Answer:- Brahmi cow is naturally evolved and adjudged based on her gunas (behavior) to external environment as the most Sattvic creature on planet (if you follow Vedic doctrine) and is most conducive as it is not lazy, very merciful and loving by nature. 2) Why not milk from Buffalo or goat or even jersey cows (milk that most of us drink in US, UK etc.)? Answer:- Buffalo's milk may increase physical strength much like other milk but the problem is that the behavior of consumers may not be Sattvic. Laziness is predominantly seen after consumption of Buffalo's milk. Milk from hybrid cow variants such as Jersey and others are absolutely non-conducive for Sattvic practices. They still have healthy high proteins and fats for sure. However, for purposes of staying Brahmachari (holding the semen within), heavier foods (tamasic/aphrodisiac) increase pressure on prostrate which cause lust to develop in Sattvic minds. Jersey milk is Tamasic by nature and so it might bestow physical attributes but for Sattvic meditation, it is non-conducive as the animal is a hybrid. There is less clarity on how Jersey cows came to be but it is said that Jersey cows are having bovine and wilder boar-like German ancestry crossbred by Nordic people 3) Why does science find issues with milk all the time? (Issues such casomorphine) Answer:- That is because what the science calls "bovine" (cow's) milk today is in itself from a creature that is not natural but crossbred centuries ago. These hybrid cows are fed badly and are kept under bad conditions and also given artificial hormones.

    • @Dharmicaction
      @Dharmicaction 6 лет назад +4

      The ratio of gunas (Rajas, satvik, and tamas) for an individual is pre-programmed (based on past life karma). So, I wouldn't link gunas to food consumption. If that was the case, then people who consumed "brahmi cow milk" would have never created any karma or adharmic acts in the past. I am sure there were lot of sakuni and duriyodhana (who would have had just brahmi cow milk) types in the past even before kaliyuga let alone during kaliyuga. Gunas are pre-programmed by past life karma according to Baghavad Gita.. Do all vegans are beacon of dharma? Hitler was a vegan.

    I don't think milk is a suitable food for people on a spiritual path these days. Cows today are kept in concentration camps, fed with some unnatural mixtures, their calves are taken away... etc. If spiritual development ignores all this, then there is no spiritual development... What other indicator of spiritual development can there be if not compassion and non-violence? Times have changed, I believe that recommending milk these days is a blind misunderstanding...

      This video just explained it to you.. If you want to have any success in raising the kundalini, a vegetarian, sattvic diet is the way to go. It can actually be done when eating meat and some unhealthy foods, providing you eat in moderation and include healthy foods as well, but it is much harder. If you eat a diet which is mostly raw foods, it is fairly easy; meditation becomes almost effortless. Also, you don't have to have a guru to become enlightened, if you are disciplined and sincere enough. However, most people are not, so then a guru is of great help. All of the information you need to know is available on RUclips in great excess, though. Just practice daily yogasanas, pranayama, mantra chanting and meditation while focusing on the third eye. Chanting mantras like Gayatri mantra, Om Namah Shivaya or Maha mantra is the most effective and foolproof way for settling the mind, if you are a beginner and have a hard time meditating.

      sugar candy is misri...which has ayurvedic properties and bread here refers to roti I suppose...also in those days white rice was free of chemicals ...so should have been used as healthy food..but it is a very good and informative video...thanks to supreme yogi channel

    A very important question :- am I a hypocrite if I first want to detoxify my body and then go for God realization or detoxifying my body on spirtual path ? I read somewhere shri ramakrishna mentioning something about it I don't know the context

    • @arupbanerjee7355
      @arupbanerjee7355 5 лет назад +4

      Ekaakshar Dar Music what I feel is that first you need to live a sattvic life and go for detoxification then only you can calm your mind easliy ....and hence realize god .... where as if you think of jumping into a deep trance of god realization without detoxification of mind n body things are going to be very rough as such a person's mind is very fluctuating and uncontrollable ...hare Krishna Radhe Radhe ...god bless you

    If u have an on going kundalini awaking permanent or not.
    Try to eat raw food only.
    Sprouts sprouts and potatos / carrots to ground (you will need lot of them)
    Be aware its hard to handle those energys .. tho its not about handling them .. more like surrendering

      Raw vegetables can cause oxalate stones or kidney stones. Bad idea. Boiling vegetables reduces oxalate content. Agree that frying is not good.
