This song was written during the war on Irak and it is criticism of Amerika' s cultural imperialism and wars. In the video they show the capitalist exports flooding other cultures. Even in Afrikan huts there's Coca Cola, Santa Claus etc. Also the US sometimes "exports" war and capitalizes on that too. They add a break where they sing "this is not a love song" sung in English so the blind patriots who will chant USA whenever you mention the country might wake up and notice what the song is actually about. This is critique, not hate, similar to what they did with Deutschland.

What? No hate song? Good things and bad things?? It very clearly IS kind of a hate song. It's clear citicism towards the US's cultural arrogance and cultural imperialism. Even in the historical context this was made during the Iraque war and Bush's statement of "You are either with us or with the terrorists" emphazising this mindset even more. Even the lyrics say "I know the very useful steps and I will protect you from missteps. And who does not want to dance at the end, does not know that he *must* dance" is not even debatably citicism towards the US eradicating countless culture and their world-police mindset of "helping" every lesser developed nation to become like it. Hell he even clearly only says "This is not a love song" multiple times. Sure the song uses much irony, but especially with the music video it shouldn't even be a question that this is 100% only negative. Same with Deutschland, absolutely *nothing* in the song says anything positive about Germany, it's not "good and bad things", it's a 100% negative criticism.
@@zombor8249 It's my native language, I know this song and its context since it was released and I also remember all the discussions of almost 20 years ago. If you think it is 100% negative (as with Deutschland) then you are just plain wrong on both songs and missed their points. Saying "This isn't a love song", doesn't mean it is a hate song. Regardless of the fact that "critisism" doesn't equal "hate".
@@zombor8249 Schon mal was vom Begriff "Haßliebe" gehört ?
Interesting! At 9:39 "Even if this is a song bagging on America.. I don't think it is. [..] it was more tongue in cheek". (not sure if the WM said "bagging on", so correct me if my Dutchie ears heard it wrong here). Yes you're right that they conveyed the message tongue in cheek style. I'd go for sarcasm. And yes, it is a song bagging on America, 100%. Question is: what does the "America" in this song - as seen from a German band's perspective - stand for? Might as well have been a Dutch perspective btw, since that would be more or less the same. In Dutch, we have the terms "Amerikanisering" and "Amerikaanse toestanden" to describe the things imported here from the US which were/are seen as alien & harmful to our culture. American friends of ours happened to share much of the criticism, since they saw it as a threat to the America they loved as well. We found common ground in placing most of this in the context of globalism, with the US being used as a major force to spread it. I still believe there's much value in that general perspective. I also believe the critique in this song was actually rather modest, common knowledge and really nothing special. "Coca Cola, wonderbra".. if only those were the most pressing issues. Room for more substantial criticism is only hinted at with the mention of "sometimes war". This was Rammstein entertainment first and foremost, fitting the American mould of a "protest song" quite well. And it sounded rather good at the time. Still does. Cheers from Amsterdam!
Rammstein plays the style of music, neue deutsche härte. See also the bands of the same genre, eisbrecher, megaherz, oomph, b.o.s.c.h, heldmaschine, Fleischer, erdling,
You should watch the official video. This song is a pretty sarcastic view on America. They criticize the "american way of life" brought to the rest of the world. Not everyone wants that. It's a kind of social imperialism. The official video was sung partially in English, to make you understand. "This is not a love song", says it all. The video was created during the Irak War. You should really watch the official video! You are absolutely right with Kraftwerk. The keyboarder is a big fan of this fantastic group. Just look at the Radio video!
Rammstein has that kind of aggresive sound, perfect for work out. I often listen to rammstein or motörhead when I punsch my sandbag 👊 Please, react to more Tommy Johansson. I suggest his own band Majestica and the song "Above The Sky"
the guys from rammstein like to go to the usa. they all traveled to the USA before rammstein even existed. they also like to tour the usa. But they still have a very critical view of the United States (as well as Germany). I think , the song is a criticism of the politic of the usa towards other countries. I think it comes out well in the text: When there's dancing, I want to lead Even if you spin alone let us control you a little I'll show you how to do it right We form a loving circle Freedom plays on all fiddles Music comes from the White House And in front of Paris is Mickey Mouse. in the guitar bridge in the original song (unfortunately not on the video you watched) the lyrics: it's not a love song. all right? I think your channel is great. Please continue with Rammstein. Greetings from Germany

Man sollte den sartirischen Text nicht ganz so ernst nehmen.Europa sieht Amerika oft kritisch aber nicht feindlich. One should not take the sarcastic text too seriously. Europe often sees America critically but not hostilely. And everyone always sings "America" along.❤❤🙋♂🙋♂
Yes, but Americans often see criticism as an attack on themselves. You can't criticize this nation without some patriots wanting to take up arms right away. Even in Germany you can hardly criticize the USA without being accused of anti-Americanism by media like the BILD newspaper (founded with money from the CIA). PS: My comment is criticism too.😉
Did you ever react to Soda Stereo or Spinetta? I thinks that you probably would have a glad surprise They're the peak of the rock in the spanish language
Actually it is a critism on the USA, regarding their ways of foreign policies. Almost nobody has an issue with the good parts such as ideas of democracy, new perspectives to look at things a different way and so on. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of US American cultural themes, that benefit other cultures. It just gets difficult, when they are being forced on. Sort of: my way, or the Highway. The song was a response to HOW the US reacted to the horrible attacks on 9/11.
Flake's (keyboarder) sparkling costume stinks like a plague because you can't wash it. Flake said that whenever they change their clothes before the concert, the other members of the band complain about the terrible, smelly costume. Flake could have a new one made, but he doesn't do it to annoy his bandmates, as they always annoy and brank him too. In return, the other Rammstein members always tease Flake by spraying very cold water on Flake's face through secretly modified nozzles during rehearsals of this song "Amerika" instead of glitter and confetti. Flake is then always pissed off. Flake always has fun explaining that he actually wouldn't have agreed to be a member of this "terrible" band with their "dull" music until today and that with the exception of Till he didn't like the other band members until today. That was actually the case in the beginning of the band, but in truth Flake could no longer live without Rammstein and Till's regular bullying on stage. Rammstein has been playing with the same line up for 30 years. This is extraordinary in music history

This might be their worst song...or, at least my least favorite. Look into the old stuff, Weisses Fleiss (might be wrong spelling), Rammstein, Sehnsucht, Wolt Ihr das betten flammen sehen, Seemann... all classics and still played live today! The band are all certified and licensed pyrotechnicians. Fire has been their thing since the beginning!
@@zombor8249
It's my native language, I know this song and its context since it was released and I also remember all the discussions of almost 20 years ago. If you think it is 100% negative (as with Deutschland) then you are just plain wrong on both songs and missed their points.
Saying "This isn't a love song", doesn't mean it is a hate song. Regardless of the fact that "critisism" doesn't equal "hate".
@@celtbhoy Da gibts gar nichts zu diskutieren, wo siehst du bitte schlechte *und* gute Sachen.

Schon mal was vom Begriff "Haßliebe" gehört ?

In the first lines he sings coca cola, wonderbra, but did you noticed, in other lines he sings coca cola sometimes war.
It's a critical song about the USA. It's about their imperalism. Good song. Greetings from Europe
Rammstein plays the style of music, neue deutsche härte. See also the bands of the same genre, eisbrecher, megaherz, oomph, b.o.s.c.h, heldmaschine, Fleischer, erdling,
Minneapolis...August 27th! I will be there!!
I often listen to rammstein or motörhead when I punsch my sandbag 👊
Please, react to more Tommy Johansson. I suggest his own band Majestica and the song "Above The Sky"
We love Motorhead! Have you heard their cover of Sympathy for the Devil?
@@SueSueandthewolfman yep! 👍
We will do more TJ!!
And BTW we love Lemmy! God Bless Motörhead!!!!
the guys from rammstein like to go to the usa. they all traveled to the USA before rammstein even existed. they also like to tour the usa. But they still have a very critical view of the United States (as well as Germany).
I think , the song is a criticism of the politic of the usa towards other countries.
I think it comes out well in the text: When there's dancing, I want to lead
Even if you spin alone
let us control you a little
I'll show you how to do it right
We form a loving circle
Freedom plays on all fiddles
Music comes from the White House
And in front of Paris is Mickey Mouse.
in the guitar bridge in the original song (unfortunately not on the video you watched) the lyrics: it's not a love song.
all right?
I think your channel is great. Please continue with Rammstein. Greetings from Germany
Thanks Mini we will carry on!!
Well, I'd like more Rammstein, see also Wiener Blut, Ich will, Mutter, mein Teil,

Hey there,
Love your reactions.
If you want to see something special and different from Rammstein, you MUST see "Mein Herz brennt" in the PIANO version. You wont regred it.
Thanks Martin it’s on the list!

After the concert in Nijmegen i found black stripes in my shirts pocket and i also had them in my beer during the concert. They tasted like Rammstein 🤣

It´s a song about the cultural influence of the US in the world. The original video makes it more clear.
Thanks Peter!
Mein Teil live please Next
This is one song where the official video is much funnier.
PS: My comment is criticism too.😉
@@tosa2522 Stimmt.

Did you ever react to Soda Stereo or Spinetta? I thinks that you probably would have a glad surprise
They're the peak of the rock in the spanish language
Actually it is a critism on the USA, regarding their ways of foreign policies. Almost nobody has an issue with the good parts such as ideas of democracy, new perspectives to look at things a different way and so on. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of US American cultural themes, that benefit other cultures. It just gets difficult, when they are being forced on. Sort of: my way, or the Highway. The song was a response to HOW the US reacted to the horrible attacks on 9/11.
Wolfman also seems to suffer from the same affliction I am suffering from, gear addiction syndrome... 🤣
big time! 😂
Kraftwerk??

Check out Muse they are a British band.
the confetty, i guess presenting the american stars ;)
This censored.... Because.... Original...
"..... This is not a love song....."
But ok....I think because It's a concert here in Germany..... Lol...

You've got to try out Lovebites, all female Japanese band that sings in English. They do power, thrash, progressive and ballads. 5 beautiful women shredding in white Goddess dresses and high heels pique your interest just a little? This song is Set The World On Fire live ruclips.net/video/99zsH6iG_6c/видео.html. Just as good as testament, slayer, megadeth, metallica, anthrax, exodus, if not better. Yet, much more appealing to the eye, and they have 2 lead guitarists who absolutely shred...no lie! 🙂
Yeah, Lovebites are great. Their song "When Destinies Align" are my favourite, and the first one I heard from them 🤘

Nice reaction but not the best video to react to. You should try and research a bit before reacting (at least for other reactors). There's a reason everyone reacted to the official video in this case. Love you guys but your decisions sometimes are a bit frustrating - I would so love to see you react to the suggested links instead of trying to be too different. Especially when you haven't researched the background of a song (which makes sense). Nonetheless, greetings from Germany to ... America, I guess ...
Noted- be blessed!
This is Not a Love Song for America "Coca-Cola sometimes War" .......
In those older live videos, you'll see all their hair is slicked back and white...thats bc the budget for flame retardant was small...they'd coat their hair in Desitin, the baby diaper rash.cream!!
