I lived very close to the canal for a number of years before becoming fully aware of it. Now I'm retired, and take long walks along different stretches, photographing wildlife. Lucky to have it so close.
Winter time and the snow is my favorite time of the year on the canal. Snow along the banks in the areas look so majestic. I just love seeing the snow around the canal....
This was one good informative video! I grew up in the tiny quiet Boro of millstone 1 mile over the causeway from east millstone where the canal ran through. I've read that millstone was once much busier during the mid 19th century. More shops and even a hotel. That canal before the railroads took over was no doubt responsible for that. My dad said he remembered ladies waving from the last pleasure crafts traveling the canal at east millstone just before closing in '32. Dad retired from the Laurie Rubber Reclaiming Co. In '76 which was right on the east Bank of the canal in East millstone. The factory was originally a distillery built in 1913 I believe. It was demolished some time in the early 90s.
Lovely, interesting, enjoyable and informative. Vary nice to hear the first hand knowlage of Ms Asnis. Thank you all that were involved in making and preserving this priceless treasure of yesteryear.
So I'm moving to hillsborough can you tell me two things about the canal how is the fishing a little south of zarephath and are the fish good to eat . I'm guessing no gas powered boats but would I be able to get away with a cheap fishing motor from dicks the skinny ones nothing major.
Very well done, informative, and interesting! 👍

Swimming the canal in summer, ice skating in winter and all day canoe trips exploring were favorite things as a child. Good memories.

I lived in Somerset for quite a few years. My family and I spent many enjoyable days along the banks. Thanks for this video.

Read up about the Irish migrants that were paid poorly and lived in incredibly foul conditions.
