    Try stacking your glass food storage containers (the ones with the green lids) with their lids on. I've been doing this for a few years now and it is a game changer.

      I stack mine with the lids on & I agree, it's a game changer. No looking for the lids, they are right with the dishes.

    You should store your excess spice backstock in the freezer. Maybe being in vacuum containers will help minimize air-depletion of flavor, but remember that the flavors in spices is due to the volatile OILS, and you need cold to minimize those oils from breaking down (especially really active VOLATILE ones), the colder the better.
    That being said, the brake pump idea to create a vacuum in the jars: GENIUS!
    Also, when topping off the in-use spice jars, you should reserve the contents into a small spouted container (like a measuring cup), then add in the refill, then top off with the reserved spice. That way, in cooking you'll mostly use older spice first. If you continue as you've been doing, there will be a bed of flavorless spice at the bottom of the jar, because you rarely use it up.
    Just as a suggestion: Amazon sells amber-tinted mason jars. Another thing that breaks down flavor oils in spices is light, and amber jars help to protect against that.
    Suggestion:
    When you're using only the front depth of a deep cabinet, it might be useful to put in a 'bin stop', so the bins don't slide or get pushed back too deeply, and to dissuade others from pushing the bin back to set other things in front of them.
    Just get a piece of trim from the hardware store, cut it to about the width of the shelf, and affix it set back at the desired depth into the cabinet (use brad nails, glue, or even Command strip tape). Anything you want to store but don't regularly need can be stored behind the bins, while the bins can't slide back further than the 'stop'.
    Maple syrup has a shelf-life; it should be refrigerated once the commercial seal is opened. It will mold, even if refrigerated, but will go bad sooner unrefrigerated.
    Tip: once opened, make certain maple syrup is stored in a clear container, so you can check for mold.
    I'm really curious as to why you have your Caraway lid storage on the inside door of a wall cabinet instead of the inside door of the Caraway pots and pans cabinet next to the stove. One doesn't always need a lid for the pot or pan when cooking, but sometimes I change my mind and find having the lid stored in immediate reach to be useful. You have to step away and reach to get yours. You are so thoughtful and intentional about a lot of your choices, I wondered what separating lids from the pots and pans storage achieves.

    Wow. Looks great! I have tried some of these strategies in my pantry, but things don't stay organized when someone else living with you doesn't notice or pay attention to where to things are supposed to go~Lol. (PS- you are supposed to refrigerate maple syrup once it is opened so just be aware of any mold before pouring it out on to your pancakes or French toast. =) )

    If you put new spices on top of old spices it gets bad and old more quickly. Because the older spices become even older. But: Not if you have that air-machine, I suppose

    • @sahmonne

      Upward inflection is a natural part of speech linguistics and lots people use it. It’s not a RUclipsr schtick, she’s talking in her natural voice.

    • @theannamueller
      @theannamueller Год назад +1

      @@sahmonne just because many people do it does not mean that it is 'natural' (one of the most misused 'arguments' that proves pretty much nothing) and just because there is a linguistic description for that kind of speech behavior does not classify it as a means of talking that is 'natural' or in any kind of way a norm. if you want to employ linguistic terminology by all means call it a sociolect. but then again, that does not exclude it being a youtuber trend or schtick, which it simply is.
