I ran K02’s on my truck for a winter and had some hairy situations. Bought a set of Michelin x-ice and it’s a night and day difference. So much more confidence in winter driving
Have had x-ice for the past 3 years. Have a Subaru and have to go about 5000 rpm and start from a standstill to have the slight bit of slide. And never got stuck even in deep powder! The best I’ve had by far!
@ yep me to! I’ve tried many over the years on different vehicles. Blizzaks were good as well but overall the X-Ice is better. They wear better, much better on actual ice, but the big thing for me is how they drive on dry roads. They feel great. Nice and smooth, quiet. I’ve never tried Nokian Hakka’s though….those are supposed to be amazing snows

Running a dedicated Nokian studded tire for winter and Yoko Geo ATX for the summer on my 23 Taco sport. Not taking a chance during winter here in Winterpeg Manitoba...
Week 1 of new car was rust proofing treatment. PPF followed soon after, then wax. A note on ceramic coating: winter is rough on them, expect accelerated wear. Tuxmats are great to keep snow out of carpets. Also, Nokian Hakka R5 tires, some of the best short of studded Hakka 10s. Spare gallon of washer fluid in the trunk, always. Better stop on the side of the road and top off than try and make it without fluid.
I buy winter tires for all the cars and trucks I buy in the U.S. My wife and daughter think I am crazy because I have a 4Runner with 4wd……better to buy the right tire for the condition…..just like shoes
Hi Tim, just like to say I got my 04 4runner sprayed at Vern Houghton rust control. they did a Fantastic job, so I have two more vehicles to take to them. Thanks for that video.
I had all terrains now i have "winter" tires in a 235/70/16 on my 30 year old truck. They have a great sawtooth tread with zig zag sipes all over. Wide center grooves an offroad sort of tread as well maling them unique for a winter tire i expect this cooper evolution winter tire to be longer lasting than other winter tires marginally. I'll just keep em on all year, i might be in the forest in spring and still run through snow patches well over 12 inches deep. With a 2wd my last tires got stuck in snow that went about high up as the gas tank and suspension on the left, the right went on slick ice. I had one wheel spinning only after some time that was just on ice. broke that ice with rock and put the rock down to try and get grab traction. Then i was burning rubber .Throttle control is important then in those times. As soon as i road over rock it would break and then repeat the process a few more times at least. That trip was unplanned, you could say that i was lost. Near some old ruins by mesas and a deep canyon. My mistake was turning off the larger FR into a shady "road" headed into the canyon. Newly opened since winter only atv tracks on it. I had had to trek up to a sunny area just to grab the rocks because even the rock was frozen stuck to the ground where i went. I didn't even have a shovel since it was unplanned. I tried sleeping up there with no gear or blankets, in the morning is when i went further up n made that wrong move. Thankfully i watched lots of mattsoffroadrecovery to know things like adding the rocks to the tire. I drive a 1995 T100. Someday i want a nicer overlander, i never found a lift kit for my truck available and even spacers/blocks were sold out to level it. That was a fun road though and i'll go back
Great video! About the rubber door seals: they will absolutely degrade if you use a product containing petroleum. The best product to keep them in good condition is Super Lube’s Silicone Oil. It’s way cheaper than any of the products marketed for rubber seals and it’s absolutely degradation safe unlike some products out there.
@@zapcodeknock4503 yeah I’m with you on how heavy they are, great for snow and ice though. When spring comes I’ll get another set of wheel/tires and keep these as my winter set.
I run ko3 right now and it makes my ko2 feel like trash on ice, and I liked my ko2 when it got cold and I rub my rubber with silicon and haven’t had any issues.
"Make sure you have washer fluid that is isn't going to freeze" cannot emphasize this enough Had an instance driving to Lake Tahoe when this happened and I was basically driving blind in my brother's 3rd Gen 4Runner on the highway at night due to all the crap getting kicked up onto the windshield. Cannot describe the fear of thinking we were going to crash with me behind the wheel 😰
I think we should also keep a spare ignition coil.... yesterday a p304 code hit my 05 4runner. Not sure if winter affects ignition coils but a bad ignition coil pretty much makes it undrivable.
Great vid as always. My experience with the 3peak snow tires has been mixed. Speaking of pooping the bed, My KO2s were mounds of poop. My Mickey Thompson baja boss ATs are far better. Neither come close to my wife’s Blizzaks- those blow them all away
good video! you're really encouraged me to get a 2008 4runner as my first daily driver (sadly it's v6 not v8), since they don't have v8 versions in my country! but I don't care. I just paid it for 1500$ dirt cheap (still runs like a dream, fixed it easily and cleaned it!)
@@CanadianGearhead yep! at least they're much cheaper than the Land Cruiser Prado, a Prado with the same year, same engine would sell for 15000$ or more in Algeria.
Shouldn’t step one be “bring a friend with a Subaru wagon to pull your ass out of snow banks, and also (allegedly) do donuts around you while you’re stuck”

Nexzett silicone is also good. Safe on paint
I got some Yokohama geolandar AT XD tires with studs for winter here in Montana and so far they’ve been performing great
