  • Overview of what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. Together with the help of a very skilled team at Yachting Sports we are restoring Coric - a 50-year-old Contessa 32. This is the journey of getting from nearly empty boat to a safe comfortable classic.
Coric had been stripped right back a few years ago and had a lot of work done to make the hull look great and I think this was the thing that we fell in love with.
We moved the boat to a shed on the Hamble in the middle of 2021 and we will be out in early 2022. There have been a million decisions to make, and this is that story. Ideally it will be of interest to anyone who knows and loves the Contessa or anyone who is thinking about a yacht restoration.
I really hope you like the video, I certainly enjoy the comments and observations. Please like, subscribe and comment.

Thank you, very much appreciated. The telling of the story is proving to be nearly as interesting as the doing of the story.

I am seriously considering purchasing a refurbished one from the factory. Just waiting for an email response on how to order.

Dear John, pure curiosity , Coric (she looks absolutely stunning - such a great job you are doing here) - the hull colour - is that the same as on the Assent? It is beatiful. Would you care to share the colour coding?

Thank you for this - very much appreciated. I think it is the same. She was already in that colour when first seen. When we were looking at the boat trying to match colours for other items we sued a suptac colour chart and the codes were; Hull S5278B, The Gold in the sheer line is S5871B and the keel is S5295B although that isnt as good a match.

@@CoricContessa32 thanks a bundle. It looks great as it gives the boat panache. You’re getting very close to a brand new boat :-).

Hi John, very much enjoying this series - I too have recently become the new custodian of a Contessa 32 - Countess Charlotte. At circa 40 seconds, what process is going on with the teak and holly sole? Is it a laminate you are fitting to the existing sole or is it fresh marine ply with teak and holly on top? Also, if you have not done so already there is a brilliant Facebook group with roughly 1600 members and a lot of information and "how to" bits and pieces. Best wishes, Jamie

Hi Jamie, thanks for this and congratulations on your joining of the club. I am a member of the contessa association as well as the Facebook group. Both great sources of help and advice. Big takeaway from both groups is that the boats are all the same except where different. As regards the decking on the cabin sole. On the sloping sides it is Formica that is being stuck to very thin ply that is in turn stuck to the boat structure. It has to be thin ply to accommodate the curves in the hull. On the flat deck it is much thinker ply with the finish pre attached - this is sitting on bearers that are on top of the water tank. The skill is both getting everything to line up as well as ensuring that the removable boards are easy to lift without moving about.

Was Coric an abandoned project by someone else which you took on?
